    Sport Tracs already have independent suspension?

    I did a 5 liter swap. Man i tried to like the 4.0 sohc. ..na that engine continued to give me issues. Lean codes and timing chain issues..never could figure out why it ran lean. I smoked tested it and looked at my LFT and SFT . I re timed it and buz tested my injectors and obviously did all kinds of fuel pressure tests and 02 sensors . It blew head gaskets and cracked bowls in the heads. I had enough. Put a 5.0 OHV in it and have had zero issues now. Im not a pushrod guy but these old 5.0 motors are super reliable ! Easy to mod ! Using a hayden radiator fan controller for a 12 inch electric fan. Im currently making 180 degree headers for it . Super tight fit and I'm really trying to make it work. Im doing a coilover swap on it with fox 2.0 emulsion shocks on 12 inch 2.5 750lbs springs . God this truck will ride nice again..i did the torsion bar crank with a 2 inch loft rear shackle. Im riding on 32 inch tires with icon wheels. I really love this truck ,but god damn that 4.0 really made this truck 50/50. You either get a good one or a horrible shit box !!!!!

    The 4.0 SOHC is a solid engine system withholding the timing issue pre 2002. But performance upgrades are just not worth it. The engine system is dialed in. You want a better feel reduce the rotational weight of your wheels and cut out your excess chassis weight. Tinkering with intake and exhaust will simply unbalance the engine pressure and reduce the longevity of your internals. It sounds great tho. I will leave my SOHC Stock.

      Exactly what i would say. Leave it alone its only good as a daily driver to get from point A to point B that's all.

    Is there a high performance engine that fits this trucks?

    • @VeeDubJordan
      @VeeDubJordan  3 роки тому +2

      There’s a handful, if you wanted to stay Ford without excessive levels of modification you can only go with the 302 Windsor (Explorer 5.0 or foxbody 5.0) and with some modification a coyote or other OHC Ford V8 can be made to fit, also with a little modification to the firewall it’s been proven that a 2.0 or 2.3 ecoboost can fit in the engine bay, as someone with a ranger successfully swapped here on youtube (the Trac and Ranger are virtually identical chassis trucks) as for other engines I’ve seen LS pop up most frequently as it’s a fairly simple swap into these, while not 302W simple it’s easier than an eco or a coyote or other OHC Ford, I’ve also seen the Honda F-series in a ranger and the Toyota 2JZ-GTE bolted into a ranger as well, which would give credence to these fitting in the sport Trac

    4.55 from 4.10 would be a huge difference with the same size tires. It would be like adding 11% more engine torque almost.
    Exhaust sounds perfect!

      @VeeDubJordan  4 роки тому

      i didn't notice much if any gains in mpg, the tune was more for power and torque but some tuners can actually make eco maps, so i guess i'd check with your tuner on that one!

    Don't waste your money on those 4th gen and earlier explorers. The 4.0L engines that come in them are poor designed and junk. They are only good as a normal daily driver. Don't even attempt to try to add performance parts to that truck, just asking for trouble. Just keep up the normal maintenance on it and your fine.

    * TIRE SIZE CHANGE ?? P235/70R16 were A FACTORY OPTIONAL SIZE... for that car... SOME/MANY/MOST 2WD 2003 SPORT TRAC CAME WITH THE LARGER DIAMTER P255/70R16.... Thus and therefore, SLIGHTLY SMALLER DIAMTER TIRES 'CAN' GAIN YOU SOME TORQUE. SIMILAR EFFECT TO GEAR RATIO CHANGE 'without' the hard labor.*
