- My Mustang had about 66,000 miles when I first started all this. Now it has over 200 thousand miles, and I'm still not seeing any problems. I'm sure that depends on how you treat your car, but even if you're not a total horsepower junkie it's still safe enough to run a 100 to 150 extra horsepower and it's still not be a problem at all for the 4.0 V6 Mustang. Heck I used to do that with nitrous all the time and the Mustang didn't mind. But then what do you expect from engine components that are also used on the V8.....

There's an example of it in the video. A performance shop in the high desert charged me $400, but you may get yours cheaper..

It's difficult to say. The economy isn't what it used to be. Everything's more expensive to build them. At the moment I haven't made any new ones
So great video, but could I also just take the kit to my local performance shop and saay “hi can you please install this for me”. How much would they charge if they said yes? Idk installation just seems intimidating to me.
I don't know what shops charge to install the turbo kit, everyone's different. But don't let anyone take advantage of you on that
Standard labor rates down in the south start at about $109hr and performance shop rates are going to be higher at anywhere from $125hr to $150hr give or take and I think it’s safe to say 8 to 10 hours of labor is going to be involved. Plus you are going to need to hire a wrecker to transport the vehicle to a tuning shop to be tuned which will run run you a pretty penny to. I would do the work myself to save on labor and get a friend with a truck and rent a u-haul trailer to transport the vehicle to a dyno and put the bulk of my money into having the car dialed in by the tuner. But if you have a buddy that has hp tuners you can get it up and running to be okay on the street by using the good old butt dyno and pay less dyno time and save there as well. I think the biggest thing is transporting the vehicle to the dyno

Not really sure. When the presidential administration of 2020 raised taxes pretty high on everything. It has almost put me out of business. Making the kits is expensive, as well as buying the materials. The taxes of this country keep going higher and higher on everything so there will be times when I won't be able to redesign or make them. And when I do there's not going to be a majorly big kit anymore. It might be a little cheaper but it'll also be a lot less materials

Give them time but they'll give credit to everyone they've been telling me they want to and they're planning to and they've been moving toward it there's a lot of Wheels moving toward it. They're going to be more approving than anyone very soon

I heard that you should turn the boost way down with stock internals. But say a you have a bigger throttle body, rear end gears, and a couple other things to increase the torque/hp, would you have to turn the boost down even lower so you don't risk breaking anything?
The biggest risk in turning boost up: is called "the bottom end". Which would be the crankshaft, the Pistons, and the Piston arms. Not to mention the sleeves inside the engine. I guess the common response would be "picking up those pieces off the ground". If you want to go higher then 150 extra horsepower you might want to change a few things. Technically this is a very tough engine but don't chance destroying anything. I don't think you'd be able to go very high unless you change your fuel mapping, and the electronics as well. But just in case you have, please be careful with your engine.
Where do you even get any of this stuff? Every time I look I only find cheap eBay universal turbos and I'm looking for something a little more close to a direct bolt-on

I started redesigning, but then the pandemic stepped all over it, so I'm trying to make sure that the redesigns I've been working on also still have suppliers for the parts that haven't moved out of state

I'm still doing some R & D on the turbo kit design. There's no date that I know of when the turbo kits will be sold again. One thing for sure is that there's too many modified exhaust out there, and I'm guessing that the turbo downpipes will have to be done by a local shop in the area of the buyer
@@jacobanderson3768 downpipe I'm sure I can tackle it's just the inlet for the turbo. Currently have a junkyard 4.0 that's gonna me build to handle boost. Maybe not as much as the one in this video but something fun. Can't wait to see what you have to offer

Absolutely not, the AC stays where it is.
super interested in buying one, what would I need to get besides what come with the kit?
It needs a tune, bigger injectors, larger fuel pump, then gotta yank the trans and build it up to handle the extra hp if you want it to last. It's much more involved than just slapping some parts on
What wheels are those I’ve been trying to find ones like those for a while
They're from the brand called "Niche". And I don't really remember but I think they're called Targas. I had to expand my inner wheel parts of the car in order to get the ones that I have on there. Don't get my size because you'll have a hard time with it. But mine are 20 inches by 11.5 inches
Is it true that the stock drivetrain/ other internals can’t really handle power like that ?
If you're trying to do 550 horsepower or above, I would recommend switching over to the Shelby transmission and the drive shaft. Technically It should bolt right on. The transmission and the drive shaft are going to be your main thing and if you do that the only thing you need to worry about is going to be the rear end. If you switch to the 8's, then it should be perfect. Try not to go too high though because now you're depending on the strength of the drivetrain of a high powered V8

You could, depending on what you're doing. To stay on the safe side: keep the PSI on the Watergate low

At the moment the turbo kits are not for sale. Due to the higher prices since mid 2020 it is unclear when the turbo kits will be back.
I own a mustang aswell, 06 v6. And I’m trying to learn/ get into cars. I love them, but I don’t quite understand everything yet. This video is helping me a lot bc I also want to make it fast as fuck

The colonge v6 can't handle that much horsepower. It tops out around 300 anything higher you're just gonna tear it apart. I know. I drive one.

Covid lockdown and taxes have made it hard to make more. This was during the redesigning process, where it cost the most. Turbo kits for the 4.0 will be back up and running on its own time.

Well there is going to be a change in what is sold in the kit. There's not going to be a downpipe. There's just going to be the turbos and the turbo headers

Nice video but I would never add silicon to a exhaust because the extreme temperatures would burn it off especially on a turbo vehicle.
It's a copper silicone specifically made for exhaust systems. It's one of the only things rated for temperatures as high as an exhaust system
@@jacobanderson3768 why not just gaskets? Gaskets would be a much cleaner install and last longer. I've used copper as a quick fix, it's a temporary bandaid at best.

That's a pretty low boost. I think you can get away with it, it's always good to have a tune with any mods to the car regarding the engine but you should be good. There are examples of some mods needing a tune in order to achieve a horsepower gain.

Twins are cool but what's the point of it if you can't push the boost very high with this engine? You need forged pistons and arp head studs if you don't wanna crack a piston or lift a head.
True but low boost on a higher comp NA engine, is gonna feel like a lot more boost than say a lower comp turbo motor from factory ie like a 2.5 ej engine, will be able to run 15-18 psi factory. Pushing 6 psi on these will in the end give more power... if I recall correctly that is.. don't quote me 100% lol
I've made a correction. Your horsepower goals can be anywhere from 10hp to 700hp gains. it depends on the buyer

Or better question what is the direct bolt on whp from this kit to the 4.0 v6 ie if its applied with say a 6psi wg for each spoolie boy what is the projected gain to the stock 200 bhp from the 4.0?
@@UndefinedAffliction these engines on stock internals are safely able to make something like 350hp. When you start pushing past 12psi the engine won't last long. I'd say 8-10psi is safe for these motors. You need forged pistons and studs if you want more out of the stock block.
@@stevenlopez5832 built internals are always the go to for bigger hp numbers. I don't really care what crank it puts out but I'd assume on 2 6psi spring there realistically should be a gain of atleast 150 to the wheels of the s197. I have no factual evidence to support that of course but if these blocks are really only good for 325 max stock, than maybe forged before hand is a better option my 2.0 with a 18g turbo and a mild tune was pushing around 285 whp and that felt like decent power for a lower comp motor. So I bet 350 on the stock for this would feel more like a solid 425 in a higher comp motor. Either way as long as it gives boost juice idgaf 🤣
Probably the safest to run on stock internals would be about 450hp? I feel anything over 500hp with stock internals would cause things to become unhappy. Also, could you just tap the oil pan for the oil return?
You would need to change the fuel pump motor to something stronger and also the injectors and the MAF because they can only go up to about 300-350 on the V6

Anything over 300 will blow gaskets left and right
or just get a better engine. 3.7 can handle a lot more power from what I hear

All turbo kits come as a package. At this time there aren't any standalone hot side kits.

That depends on how much horsepower you're trying to achieve. But I haven't had to change it for this
what tuner did you use
Mine is an SCT. I have an older model but they're all going to work just the same for this car. Just make sure you use the tuner made for this model OBD2. Americanmuscle.com sells the newest ones so I would definitely do that

Well I make them actually, and I set the prices. But right now there's not a lot going on with that. These turbo kits are being redesigned at the moment and will only come in a single type kit.

No it does not. it is simply the twin kit only.
What all did you have to change on the internals and transmission to get the car to support this much hp
@@itsturbo2908 the performance shop in Downey California will be able to upgrade the engine by reinforcing the sleeves, they change out the Pistons, the Piston arms, the rings, the crank, but let's not forget about the engine you also got to do the drivetrain.
For lower horsepower it's highly recommended to change the the rings on, and the springs in the heads.

At the moment there is a stock engine in it now. When everything is stock I wouldn't recommend going beyond 150 extra horsepower

He’s legit I was looking at a set of 60lbs injectors on American muscle and reading reviews and you tech dynamics came up as there turbo kit option they had installed on their 4.0
@@DarkForest86 Oh that's right. American muscle is a very good place to buy engine parts for upgrading to boost. It's where I bought my parts and it's something I recommend a lot.

@@strickracing437 they have a computer that's running Direct connect into the cars OBD2. With their own computer they configure a tune and load it up with your handheld tuner.

Will you see that depends on if you have the right piston rings for your Pistons
The wider the Gap in the piston ring the more HP you can put through it with mattress or Turbo or super
I suppose that could be said for the Piston head itself people typically change those out
and then there's the rest of the internal bottom end if you have that all changed out to the HP setting that you were looking for which you will have to describe to them then I guess the sky's the limit
I think you could push it to 500hp but definitely would take advantage of every cooling option like bigger radiator, air to air inter cooler, eflex fuel kit, meth injection just because from what supersix said about the stock pistons having a thin top ring land for the crown of the pistons, but honestly I think the cracked pistons were probably a result of poor tuning by someone that has never done a 4.0.
So take it to someone credible even if you have to go out of state. And delete that god forsaken egr system and bypass the coolant lines running into the throttle body unless you live in snowy climates.
That all sounds amazing, I would love to do all that. Also some really good advice for those watching. Not to mention the piston rings themselves just need a wider Gap. When those connect under that kind of pressure they Bend and then they break apart and that can cause the same issue. These are all some really good ideas and probably some of the minimum, and first things to do if going to higher horsepower numbers.

@@heezydope1627 well I have DeatschWerks Fuel Injectors; 60 lb. (99-10 V6), But I'm not sure what hp goals you have. But with all the stock engine stuff you may have, you should be able to pull out a safe 50-150hp or so, added to your power you already have.
