It’s a masterpiece. The orchestration, Mick’s vocals are sublime and bluesie. One of the best underrated Stones songs. Listen to this with headphones. So delicate and so powerful.

I had Sticky Fingers on 8 track - player mounted under my dashboard of my car back in the 1970's. You old Rockers like me know what that is.
Now in my 60ies riding with this song on my apple car play driving down South to FL from NY in 2024 this song plays recalling all the dudes I hung out with & adventures we had, many friends now past or faded away, the lovers I had the places I've been the magnificent achievements as well as the devastating failures. I'm still rolling down the highway as the moon glows thru my skylight as it silently tells me to Rock On & keep Rolling down the road. As this bittersweet Stones masterpiece embraces my heart mind & soul. I'm hiding sister and I'm dreaming down the road.
So Rock on brothers and sisters - & may your road be smooth, clear and steady.

I'm a little younger, 55, but understand what you're saying completely, and have had those same moments quite a bit myself lately. Wasn't happy with myself a few years ago, and needed both knee's replaced. Was 40 lbs overweight, and popping "doctor prescribed" norcos like tic tacs. Had both done, got off those miserable pills, and back into great shape, which in turn has made me a better dad, husband, friend, etc. I've learned that it's not so much what happens in life, but how you react to it, and no matter what happens when you handle the knocks the right way, life and living in your own skin becomes much easier, and generally also better for everyone around you. Thanks for the post and keep fighting the good fight!

The greatest mistake the Stones ever made was not doing WHATEVER IT TOOK,
to keep Mick Taylor in the band.
For starters, they could have PAID him.
He was given no credits on SEVERAL albums---in other words, no residuals.
In addition, his mates should have helped him with drug addiction and got him the help he needed to stay with the band. They did not...
With all due respect to Keith Richards---on Mick Taylor's WORSE DAY,
Keef couldn't hold a candle to him.
Make no mistake, Keith Richards is a very good guitarist.
Mick Taylor is a GREAT guitarist. A guitar genius.
Right up there with Hendrix, Clapton, and Santana.
    No doubt about it.
The five albums he produced with the Stones from '69-'74 are all classics.
The band was never the same after 1974.

The headphones are pulsing while time is going by.
My V-Twin roared the roads from Norkap down to Sicily...
I've seen so many things the youngsters wouldn't believe.
But every thing has its time.
And we were lucky to be there in our old days.
70 summers and I am still rocking this spirit.

One of the Stones underrated songs but in my top 5 favorites of theirs. The line" I am just living to be dying by your side" is classic.

    • @jeffwilliams380

The lyric is actually “to be lying by your side”…..I used to think it was “to be high and by your side”….but in the context of this masterpiece any of the 3 would be equally brilliant….

You know that song that you love so much? That same song that makes you melt inside when you hear it, no matter how often you hear it. It's that song you don't hear for a long time and when you do, it just takes you back to that same feeling. Kind of like a lifelong friend that you haven't seen or heard from in a long time and when you do meet up again, things just start back up where they left off. Yeah, this is that song and old friend. What a way to end one of the best albums ever made. RIP Charlie and Brian. You'll be forever missed.

It is I have listened to Music for 55 years and this is on another level. may be the most underrated song ever. I freak every time I hear it and wonder how II missed it for two decades. The older I get, the more I think his is their best song ever. Probably in my Top 11 songs of all time. Amazing how this track accidentally all came together. I shall listen again. The lyrics are also on another ethereal level. Is definitely IS a masterpiece like Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, A Day In The Life, Kashmir and Purple Rain..

Saw them play this live for the first time on the opening night of the "No Security Tour". I was in ecstatic at that moment. Shortly after they debuted "I got the Silver" to which Keith said afterwards "I don't think I've done that since I did it!"
By the way, and outstanding Audience recording of that show is up on UA-cam. Oakland Coliseum Arena, January 25th, 1999.

This whole album still kills it 50 years later. Still fresh. But now we get force fed shit by Jay Z, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and other assorted garbage that passes for music. There are some good newer acts out there but you have to really search for them or hear about them thru word of mouth. Radio gives them zip airplay. My advice is to introduce your kids and grandkids to music like this to keep it going and inspire young artists to make better music. Unfortunately corporate doesn't give a shit about real music just bottom line.$$$$$$$$

This is the most powerful song The Stones ever did. The raw emotion and depth of lyrics. The Stickyfingers album is what made these guys. The pain, the honesty of this album. This was the defining line from the Brian Jones era to the modern Stones. This album was interesting including dark songs like "Sister Morphine" and "Dead Flowers"....and this song is closure.
