Trust me, the microphone on the camera doesn't do it justice as to what it actually sounded like live. Danny Gatton was one of those prodigies that only come around every 500 years or so. He was the Mozart of the Telecaster. The Beethoven of Redneck Jazz. The Paganini of Swing. The Tchaikovsky of Blues. He was....Simply the best.
Really bad mix!!! It is such a treat to hear Danny, but as is most geniuses luck it sounds like a mess through no fault of the genius. Yes, the camera Mic is terrible of course. It will be impossible to remix this to make it at least passable...there are no tracks to play with, just the one big rotten track that we hear. If there are any young guitar players listening, PLEASE go find other Danny videos and recordings. He is simply amazing. Please don't judge him by this mess. Sorry Danny, we love you man and miss you like crazy. RIP
Danny was a friend of mine and the suicide was real he went the same age of one of his heros Roy Buchanan due to his label dropping him after signing a 5 record contract but only did cruisin deuces.88 Elmira st was nominated for a Grammy award for best rock instrumental against the likes of Eric Johnson,Rush etc...he was the best guitar player I ever seen,no effects but a old tape Echo-Plex.saw him 36 times amazing and truly missed.R.I.P
How could those no good bastards drop him ?? Son of a bitch if u tube would of been Around then he could of gotten at least some of the cred he deserves!!! He is the humbler no matter who is up on stage with him !!!! My lord what a player. Never again Just the size of his hands and the power he could generate will never be duplicated
Saw Danny Gatton 34 times myself and yes he was robbed of the Grammy. His blue note album showed the talent he played with Joshua Redman, Roy Hargrove etc. As a Maryland native he was the best guitar player I've ever seen also.
Amen brother, nobody and I mean NOBODY has ever demonstrated such a command of the instrument like Danny. Sure I have my share of guitar heroes that are love but Danny was just the best. If anybody ever had the right to be a show off it was him. RIP Danny.
Alot of REALLY great players agree with you... I agree with you too, I'm just not a really great player. :) Brent Mason Albert Lee Vince Gill Johnny Hiland the list goes on...
I used to go to the Birchmere club in Alexandria Virginia all the time… I saw Danny do this many times. So blessed to have this on UA-cam. So blessed for Danny Gatton.
I saw Danny many times in and around Washington, DC and I never, ever left a show less than *awestruck*!! And he was a such a cool, unassuming guy. We miss you, Danny - you will live forever in our hearts....
Doesnt get the notoriety he deserves. Ive seem em all and Danny was an amazing player. Saw him twice and thoroughly blown away both times. Very sad he's gone.
It’s just criminal that he’s not well known outside guitarists circles and DC area from what I gather. That Charlie Brown melody has always been a favorite of mine and to hear it done with that level of delicacy and aggressiveness at the same time… no words, just genius
The first time seeing in 88 in a small club in lower Manhattan left me awe struck had to bring my brother who love guitar player's I remember him passing up a beer bottle and DANNY ripping it up great times.
This man could do anything on guitar... so impressive but always musical first and foremost! I love watching his instructional videos too. Thanks for sharing this!
I remember this show coming on the radio while I was driving home in the 80’s I started driving really fast to get home and record this show on a cassette tape. I got some of it! This so great thank you for sharing! Danny ✨🙏✨
Thank you so very much for posting this. Wow. Today is the anniversary of Danny's death. One of the greatest guitar slingers to have ever lived. Truly amazing.
Proof what the left and right side of the brain will capture from light years infinite..in 38 yrs on the highway I noticed other artists either dead and gone confused, conflicted , medicated strung out on artificial stimulants and or on freakin people...I returned to the soil to seek out my new highways and byways.. Awesome .. awesome.. thank you very
Wednesday nights at Club Soda on Connecticut Ave., I never saw the same show twice, I didn't know how lucky I was. Kinda pissed me off when the Post ran him on the cover of their Sunday Magazine, Cuz then I had to start waiting in line to see him, Selfish bastard that I was
I cannot believe how people do not see the true genius of this man? Who in the rock. jazz, country or blues idiom could compare? He could butcher albert Lee If he wanted to But he was always a gentleman.
well it's always subjective but I've seen all those naturals play up close--I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Shawn Lane and he was a musical genius,. But no live show affected me the way Danny did-- he was simply on another planet completely, just a huge range of styles and effortless playing. He's hands down the 'greatest' i've seen--and i've seen hundreds.
this is great !...it's a bit too long though. his recordings did not sell too well. Instrumentals have a more limited appeal. He would have done better backing a high profile singer...

@@bigtsshackfestival9563 He had small hands mate.
I’m sorry for your loss & the worlds loss

If you are a guitar play, then you know that DG was THE best guitarist ever, period. RIP Danny.
That can't be argued with!

Agreed!
Yup

Nobody can..or ever will ..play like Dannny Gatton..GOAT!
An American legend. There will never be another Humbler.
RIP, Danny Gatton.
blah deBlah I agree.
yah he was a samurai with a guitar
I agree, but Greg Koch does a pretty good imitation... ua-cam.com/video/0UY9COXp7-k/v-deo.html
Start The Rebellion GK is good, of course. But there's not the character or soul.

Truly a genius. Wow. Mind blowing
Danny was a humble showman who loved to slay the audience with a hot band. He was a friend to my brother and family.
He seems like he would have been a genuinely nice person.
You were blessed to have known him so well.
Doesnt get the notoriety he deserves. Ive seem em all and Danny was an amazing player. Saw him twice and thoroughly blown away both times. Very sad he's gone.

Unbelievable and amazing!
I would have loved to see him and the awesome Scotty Anderson play together!
This man could do anything on guitar... so impressive but always musical first and foremost! I love watching his instructional videos too. Thanks for sharing this!
Don't know if anybody took the stage after that, but if they did I feel sorry for them.
Danny Gatton the master of telecaster
Un virtuose qui donne envie de danser c'est rare !! RIP Danny
only got to see him once. Glad I did, but wish I seen him more
I remember this show coming on the radio while I was driving home in the 80’s I started driving really fast to get home and record this show on a cassette tape. I got some of it! This so great thank you for sharing! Danny ✨🙏✨
Wish there were more videos of Danny Gatton. Every once in a while a new one will pop up. Thanks for taking the time to do it.
I wish that one single video of Elmore James existed!!!
@@kevdean9967 Amazing remark!👍 My all time favorite 💙 Blues song 🎵 🎵 🎶
is "The Sky Is Crying."
*Elmores version, not SRV's.
Brilliant.Just recorded off cam,incredible.

wonder if he ever played with Roy Clark now that would be a treat!!! both exceptional players!!!
They were neighbors; Roy influenced Danny; DG just took it farther .
@@donbladsoe My Father grew up with Roy in Anacostia ,my grand parents moved away I think when the boys were 12
Danny, you are so great guitar player.
One of the greatest unknown guitar players!
This video with Danny is so great. Danny ,the best guitar man.I don,t believe in his suicide. R.I.P.
Fast and accurate!
My goodness you can never put out that 🔥
He was an awesome guitarist.
Unbelievable!
So good,so God!
Wow!
Imagine attending, Gatton says one more, And then this epic attack on the guitar
I saw Danny live maybe 15 times and he never smoked it any harder than this video...WOW!!
LoveBandit1000 . YOU ARE LUCKY MAN, TO SEE THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER DANNY.CHEERS !
This is such good shit.

DC and Chuck County's finest.
Ha! My old band paired "Peppermint Patty" with "Last Train To Clarksville"! Ahh, if only we sounded a fifth as good as this!
Nobody better!!!!
Thanks for Posting True Awesomeness :)
That was a fine Telewacker!
From about 4:20 to 5:35 he goes into uber rip zone.
Great footage
nylonsteel Yes,great video with Danny. I watch this video everyday LOL
I can hardly hear Gatton over that damn piano.
"Let's hear it for David Gatton!"
One of my favorite gatton songs is piercing blues (THE PITTS) CK IT OUT
1:30 how'd he do that down bend
Start on a bent string then release the pressure back down to the normal position
The Humbler!
good god. that aint natural. Ive been a danny Gatton for years but to plat guitar like that ain human... surely
I cannot believe how people do not see the true genius of this man? Who in the rock. jazz, country or blues idiom could compare? He could butcher albert Lee If he wanted to But he was always a gentleman.
Yes folks: Sylvester Stalone on rythem guitar.
LOL, his name is Billy Windsor...and I never noticed the resemblance to Sly until now.
sdsurferinvestor LOL.
sdsurferinvestor haha LOL. This guy looks like Sylvester Stallone. Yes he is good guitar player also.
Billy was Danny's childhood friend. They grew up playing guitar together.
@SRV1 Is thiswhere you want to be when Jesus comes back? Talking smack to someone who made a Slyvester Stallone joke?
On rhythm guitar, you guessed it, Frank Stallone!
Not his usual Tele and why is there a Roland Jazz Chorus on stage?
The 7 thumbs down votes must like Kurt Cobain's playing.
Oh Yes We get Slash and John Mayer Ect Ect! What would Chet Adkins Think?
Chet would think how he couldn't keep up with Danny if he'd have lived three lifetimes! Slash? Mayer? They couldn't tune Gatton's Telecaster!
I don't know what Chet Adkins would say but Les Paul is on tape saying, " Danny could play anything the other guy could play, only better!".
@John Boda What year was this??
The end panel cites May 22, 1993. Did you not watch til the end?
Anyone want my guitar before I burn it?
Sly Stallone on Rhythm guitar!!
is that Sylvester Stallone on 2nd guitar?
James Krys Yes, Danny,s other guitar friend looks like Sylvester Stallone LOL.
Not the greatest. DG is a what's called a natural. Many naturals. Eddie, Shawn Lane,. DG. These are whats called Naturals.
