- Yup, I am watching episodes out of order, but I don't care cause I finally broke down to watch this episode before spoilers got to me and DAMM IT THIS EPISODE IS ACTUALLY REALLY FREAKING GOOD!

Um... Johnny... I don't know how to put this gently, but... AJ's parents have been confirmed dead since season 3...
I know I know. Just me getting lost in the moment I guess.
However they could give some more hints. Something like: "...until that accident". Well, maybe they wanted to keep some "doors" open for a possible future episode so that they can later decide what really happened. In theory it is even possible that they are still alive (e.g. went on a journey -> were imprisoned/lost their memories -> never returned -> were declared as dead) even though the chances are pretty low, of course.
Jackie McCann i saw in another reaction they sacraficed themselves to save their children. I don't if that is cannon, or they are cofusing it with Harry Potter, but we will have to see. perhaps in the movie or season 8?
Chris, what you've heard is not canon, I don't even think the comics has addressed it.

I've noticed a lot of reactors asking what happened to the parents, it was said before by one of the show's writers after the family reunion episode that the parents had died, it hasn't been said how that happened and I doubt they will say in the show but that's what happened to them, that really makes it sad when you think about how Grandpear never got to say goodbye to his daughter
The episode says it in every way possible without actually saying the word death. It's why their friends talk about them in past tense and why Grandpear breaks down in tears upon meeting the apple siblings properly.
Also now I want fanart of my OC standing with Pear Butter because oh my lords she is the most adorable most beautiful thing ever!

in family appreciation day they said the whole apple family was going to be there. but we never saw the parents plus there where 2 shooting star that was said to be symbolizing the parents. plus on the episode crusaders of the lost mark Applejack said to applebloom "if mom and dad where here they'd be so proud of you". I think those are enough hints to presume them dead. I think the show would never tell us how they died nor tackle the idea of death so I guess we will never know how they died.
Agree. Also the way Burnt Oak and Mrs. Cake speak of their friends is a big hint. And at the end they say their parents leave something to remember them by.
Indeed those are good points of hints that they are dead... exept it's actually confirmed, and actually twice!
The most recent proof of it, was on the galacon 2017, just a few weeks ago!
On the writer's panel, all of the present writters present confirmed that the apple paren't were dead, but that they aren't allowed to say or clearly mention it in the show because of the rating!

Um...well, ya see...uh...sometimes, things are made. They live for a while, and then they stop. Forever.
So......yeah there were a lot of moments I don't think I gave a proper reaction to, and some moments where I talked over some of it like when Bright Mac was listing the hours for their anniversary I thought he literally only said 6 hours, but it was a whole lot longer, so I apologize for that!
No need to apologize, your reaction was very genuine and positive, I very enjoyed it :) At least you didn't talk all the time about how certain it is that AJ's parents are dead :q (because it isn't as of yet; and no, what the staff says about that is irrelevant, because as long as they didn't confirm it within the show, they can easily change their mind someday in the future if that turns out to be better for the story). So fat the only sure thing about their parents is that they're "not there" from whatever reason (and the possibilities are ENDLESS), so let's stick with that.
P.S.: Take a look at the end credits ;) There are two interesting names ;)
FYI: if you do the math and assume a year in Equestria is the same as real life, that is just a little over 15 years between scenes. It is unfair to relate this to Romeo and Juliet... that story took place over a period of weeks with only a handful of encounters between the two. This story is a decade and a half of build up to Buttercup's father disowning her and making her cry at her own wedding, then living to old age with the guilt of never having made up with her before she died. This is far more tragic than Shakespeare.
JhonnyFireFlame Lauren Faust said she never figured it out. She just liked the feeling of them living with their Granny, but keepink the family dynamic tight and small. There was brief discussion of them being traveling salesponies or explorers, but since we never needed the information in an episode, nothing was ever made offical. So it will have to remain a mystery until someone decides to define it. So in the future seasons maybe we'll get another episode about their parents. We'll just have to wait and see. Also it would be good if the apple siblings would have found them alive and reunite with them. Beside that this episode was pretty emotional. I bet it would be tragic if Celestias's evil version Daybreaker would show up and burn sweet apple acers to ashes including the tree Bright Mac and Pear Butter left behind, don't you think ?
I think it is good that this episode concentrated on their story, not on death. Most likely it is because they were afraid to fuck it up, so they left everything as it is.

"What happened to them, where did they go?" it's been confirmed twice that they're dead. Crusaders of the Lost Mark and the Apple family reunion episode (can't remember the title) both confirmed it

This episode hurt me to watch, not just because of the feels from the actual episode, but the fact that I know no one is ever going to look at me the way Pear Butter does Bright Mac. I hate my life.

You mean Pear Butter, right? I said "The way Pear Butter does Bright Mac", meaning I'm the one in Bright's place.
To be honest, I think the show has made the story of AJ's parents much clearer than Scootaloo's life situation. At this point, there's not much of a debate what happened to them. Even though there's still a lot of unanswered questions.
"Who is Applebloom?"is one of them. Back when AJ was telling a story about how she got her cutiemark we did't see Applebloom. So this could either mean Parents were still alive (but in that case AJ and Big Mac would remember them well), or wasn't around yet as well as their parents. Next, in the episode "Where Apple lies" their parents were already gone and would never return, because Big Mac and AJ were arguing about who should inherit the farm from Granny. And Since all of them went to the hospital this would mean Applebloom wasn't around too. Of coarse, you could say she was at some pre-school, but then you as well might say that AJ has one more brother they keep locked in the basement.

This episode always almost makes me cry. It's just so heart-retching! The hate, the love, the feud, the remorse, the childhood flashback, the twists,... I could go on and on! Best episode by far -- with tears of sadness and joy! 😭😂
We have been given one of the biggest plot holes in the entire series and it is fantastic! Now, granted there are still some plot holes about Bright Mac and Buttercup that we still don't know about like how they continued on with their lives after their marriage and which point in time they brought their children into the world. However, there may be some stories left to tell about them in the future because we still have Granny, Goldie Delicious and others that can give us more details about them and I'm sure that I'm not the only one who'd like see that happen at some point. I'm glad that you were able to get into this episode without being spoiled because your reaction was great and I enjoyed it!😁

Apple parents are hinted about waaay more often, it's been basically confirmed since forever.
And in this episode its confirmed 100%. They don't have to say it, because the character's grammar, voice tone, and body language tell you everything.

I think what happen to the parents will be a season ending story.
No, it won't ever be told!
Two reason why : They already made to many episodes about the apple familly, especially if doing an other episode about it just after this one would be conpletely illogical!
And the second reason : as the writter's said at galacon's 2017 writter's panel, they aren't allowed to use the word death, nor are they allowed to clearly mention it in any way, thus always leading to a point of "We don't know if they're dead or just away"
But yeah, they did confirm they're death...
Actually... This isn't a bad idea!
A way to show death in this would be through some sort of magical thingy thing, like a rainbow power thingy but that would make them disapear afterward... Through that, it IS possible to make a finale about they're parents, and they could use that to explain something that has never been explained in the past! This episode left them with actually material to work with, but even then, I doubt they'll talk about it!
Just saying, it was already extremely hard for them to make the episode tanks for the memories!

If I remember correctly Lauren Faust was asked about AJ's parents. She replied somewhere along the lines of "I'd like to think that their parents have passed away."
It's not necessarily confirmed, but I don't think we'll ever be getting a clear answer about where they are now.
Now Scootaloo is the only one left.
They can't outright say what happen but there has been a total of three hints which are enough to give anyone an idea of the truth. clue 1 End of Apple Family reunion.Clue 2 season 5 episode 18 near the end.Clue 3 Apple Bloom's line near the end.

I would say it doesn't matter what happened. The Applefamily knows what happened but there is no reason for them to talk about it like RD knows about Scooterloos parents or so.
It's like common knowledge in ponyville and we might never know and I'm totally okay with that.
It's just a really awesome story.

The reason why they didn't give a hint as to where the parents went is because of the fact that they died. They would've put an effort into finding them if they were still alive so I think the answer to that question is simple. They just passed away. What I do wanna know though is how they died. We probably won't get the answer to that because it's a kid show, but I think it's worth hoping for.

The saddest part of the whole thing is that Pear Butter died before she could reunite and make things right with her dad
season 5 when Apple Bloom got her cutie mark: "if only mom and dad were here, they would be proud". I do want to believe that they are alive, but come on, if they were alive they would be living at the farm with granny and would have been in the Apple family reunion even if they didn't live at the farm. Pear Butter and Bright Mac died saving Rarity when she and aj were foals. Of course, that is a comic thing but it comes to the point to where of now the whole fandom just made it cannon along with episodes like these. But I am glad we got this episode, so now we all can agree we as the fandom seen all of the mane six's parents.

yeah, that I can suspect, it goes to show how divided the fandom is because a lot loves and a lot hates. Including when it comes to Starlight and the new changelings, personally I am fine with the changelings, I find them cute and reminds me a lot of my favorite fruit with some colors. and Starlight I just give chances for her character to grow. I may not speak for the "whole" fandom, but I speak for the fandom who agrees with that headcanon and that is my choice. Is it a good one? probably not, will I get hated for it? maybe yes, maybe no. but I am a pegasister that goes with the flow and doesn't complain unless it deals with the wonderbolts being incompetent and needed to learn a lesson they should have already know being a military/performance stunt team.

the backstory that i watched said that pearbutter went into the dark forest and was killed by timberwolves and brightmac went in after her and was killed by timberwolves too.

I finally recorded my own reaction to this episode and can now catch up on all the reactions that I've been missing.
Every reactors out there should react this quickly. Unless they live in the bunkers, they will be spoiled before the U.S release. I dont why they have to stick with U.S, high quality for sure but you cant enjoy it 100% because of the spoilers.
I believe Bright Mac and Pear Butter had Big Mac, Applejack, and Apple Bloom several years before their deaths. Which is very sad cause Grand Pear never got the chance to ask for her forgiveness for his pride, and saying he loves her with all his heart no matter what; but the worst of all things for a father to regret is never getting a chance of saying his final goodbye to his only daughter and his son in law.
I stand by the belief that if kids for the past 50 years could handle Bambi's mother being shot, kids today can handle finding out the Apple parents are dead. Hasbro needs to get out of the way and let the writers write.
I don't think it's Hasbro as it's the actual TV Rating. Pretty much every current animated movie is rated PG now so they can talk about death. Back than though the movie ratings system wasn't so strict. But MLP has a rated Y, which aims at very YOUNG audience. However, I really think they should raise that rating, considering some of the things they've shown already.

George Takei has a long standing feud with William Shatner. Takei is very popular on social media and very vocal about his dislike for Shatner. As a result many people share George's opinion and those that aren't sure about it stay quiet. Bill Shatner seems like a really friendly guy to me, but that may just be his public persona. I do get the feeling that if Bill ever did offer an apology George would never accept it. Maybe someone else knows more. That's a long-winded way of saying lots of folks don't like William Shatner and those that do are hesitant to say so on the internet.
I would be remiss if I didn't point out that Bill Shatner, like James Duhan and Lenard Nemoy, went through a period of his life when he resented his time on Star Trek, and by extension the fans, because casting directors couldn't see past Captain Kirk. Whereas actors like George Takei and Nechelle Nichols really embraced the fandom and went so far as to appear in fan films. So there's that.
Also Bill Shatner is apparently a well known horse breeder and competitive rider which may be why they were able to convince him to be on the show in the first place.
You realize that you just explained why there was no one more appropriate than Shatner to play this part.

episode 11 and 12?
The story of the Apple parents' deaths was not important to this particular story. What WAS important is that it took outliving his little girl for Grand Pear to admit he was a fool. He returned to Ponyville a broken old stallion, just hoping for a glimpse of his grandchildren. And he was offered forgiveness. Later, he got to attend his grandson's wedding, in the same place he last saw his baby girl. Grand Pear will probably live out the rest of his days with regret for the fact that the last time he saw his daughter alive, he disowned her, but he can live with himself knowing she's forgiven him by proxy. And the comics later confirm she always held out hope he would come home.
Yeah, looking back I was way too focused on the death of the parents. I love the love story and everything about it, but I got too caught up wanting to know what happened. I hope it didn't sour the reaction for you :)

I'm pretty sure one of the show writers confirmed at a convention that they're supposed to be dead. Now obviously they could decide to change that or put a twist to it, but it seems unlikely. Maybe we'll get an explanation?

It's not that I didn't get that they are dead. I understood that perfectly. My mind was just so focused on what happened to them before they died, like what lead to it. I don't really like that I focussed so much on that instead of the episode itself, which I do apologize for. But I did not miss the fact that they died.

I really, like really, don't want to accept it, but the writers pretty discreetly implied that their parents were dead without saying anything.
