While _Kung Fu Panda 2_ and _How to Train Your Dragon_ are my favorite movies from the studio, my favorite from this era would have to be _The Bad Guys_ and _Puss In Boots: The Last Wish._ They're just so visually gorgeous, have great characters and stories, and the later in particular contains a great ensemble of villains, and some pretty heavy themes about coming to terms with one's mortality.

I can see why he selected "The Bad Guys" as number 1 based on a children's graphic book series written by Australian author Aaron Blabey. And the film adaptation is quite interesting focusing on a group of unlikely friends/generic criminals which are anthropomorphic critters.
The 5 main gang did return for their Holiday TV special. Unfortunately the original cast member didn't reprise their roles, instead the studio hired new voice actors and actresses who did a solid impression of those main cast.
I would have to speculate that they would eventually voice the character again for a TV animated series.
I loved the captain underpants books growing up as a kid. They were my favourites as well as diary of a wimpy kid. Dreamworks really did this animated movie justice I think!
Would argue The Bad Guys was the start of the fifth era with a brand new art style in force
Just wanna correct that Chris Meledandri never became DreamWorks’ new CEO. He was offered the job, but declined so as to focus on Illumination. The only thing he’s involved in at DreamWorks are the Shrek productions.

Here are my rankings.
1. How To Train Your Dragon The Hidden World: The perfect ending of one of the best franchises. It's so memorable and it's definitely a rewatch.
2. Kung Fu Panda 3 - It still has its charm like the first two movies. As usual, everything hypes me up. Still, the choreography and soundtracks are still amazing.
3. Puss In Boots The Last Wish - A great end of the year with animation movies. The plot surprised me whenever I watch this film, it has the excitement whenever I think about what will happen next.
4. The Bad Guys - This movie surprised me alot. I already thought that DreamWorks is going downhill after releasing bad films. But I'm glad I still watched this film. It's surprisingly funny and enjoyable. Definitely a must watch.
5. Captain Underpants The First Epic Movie - Butt jokes, and it works. Very funny and enjoyable, glad they chose Kevin Hart as one of the cast. Professor P is undeniably funny as hell.
6. Trolls - The movie is good, NGL. I first thought I was gonna hate the film, but it kinda shocks me that this isn't that bad. It's not as great or enjoyable as the other films, but it's good.
7. The Croods A New Age - It's not as good as the first one, but it's surprisingly funny. Overall it's a good movie to watch.
8. Abominable - Eh film. Kinda forgettable but it's an alright film. Still the same monster pet films which is alright.
9. Trolls World Tour - It kinda went downhill in my opinion. I do like the concept of different genres and different trolls in this film, but it's kinda forgettable.
10. Boss Baby Family Business - The plot is ridiculous, everything is kinda bad. The only thing I enjoy is the ending. It's the same as the first one, but better.
11. Boss Baby - The plot is ridiculous as usual. The ending is the only thing I like, but overall a bad film I won't watch again.
12. Spirit Untamed - Why... the hell... did this movie exist?! The animation is so bad, the characters are forgettable, and they turned Spirit Stallion Of The Cimarron, a beautiful movie into this Disney wannabe knockoff. GET IN THE FREAKING BIN FOR RUINING SPIRIT!
Hey just because the villain is hard rock, doesn't mean it isn't a perfect sequel, and I don't think it didn't went downhill and forgettable, In My Opinion it "Underrated" for an animated sequel like this.😐

I disagree, with your take on puss in boots 2. I think puss’ character arc of overcoming his fear of death and the general theme of enjoyment of life itself is very much targeting adults and teenagers.

These countdowns have been great, I especially love the amazing trilogy conclusions this era brought. But, you've got the wrong years and description on this one.
Yeah the bad guys is also at my number one. I never read the books but this is definitely one of the studios best written films.

Same here! I've been wondering when we were going to get another/final DreamWorks ranking video and I'm glad we got it before the end of the year. I'm wondering if we're going to get a full/complete ranking in the future. Maybe when the next DreamWorks movie comes out.

I picked The Bad Guys movie on Netflix everyday; especially how it turns out right for DreamWorks stepping forward in the future. Here’s hoping. 😉👍

Princess Mirabel Madrigal, she doesn't need a love interest either, but in the Shrek 5 movie, I also want to see the rivalry between King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who is the best monarch a of a kingdom, that is, the best ruler of a kingdom, because both want to do what is best for their own kingdom, because King Artie wants to do what is best for his kingdom called Far Far Away because now he is the new King of Far Far and Queen Anna wants to do the best for their kingdom called Arendelle because now she is the new Queen of Arendelle, but at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best monarch of a kingdom, that is, the best ruler of a kingdom, and that at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their For the fifth entry of the DreamWorks Animation ranking video because there are several features realsed already including "Ruby Gillman ,Teenage Kraken" and "Trolls Band Together".
And i can't forget "Orion and the Dark", "Kung Fu Panda 4", and "The Wild Robot" that makes 5 films project for 2023-present.
Fully you'll do it later this year, it's been 2 years since this one.
I actually enjoyed the DreamWorks Trolls franchise and I'm on the positive side of the franchise the animation is vibrant(for the characters and location settings), the songs are catchy (and some emotional) but most of all the stories are well done.
Plus I didn't find the other troll characters annoying, I find them more supportive, loyal, loveable, likeable and uplifting, caring for each other because I'm a loyal friend and a member of the Pop clan for 11-12 years (previously 10 years) in my imagine fantasy.
Same with the song and music I didn't find it annoying I find it catchy and make me feel better and sue my fragile nerves and dance to It
Most of the songs that were written for the franchise and others are based on other popular songs I'll give credit though.
Also I Did enjoy watching the holiday TV special Trolls: Holiday in Harmony on Christmas day, and I quite enjoyed it a lot .
But on the bright side, you've given the two films of the Trolls franchise a 9th and a 6th and those are pretty good big numbers.

I don't watch too many movie but captain underpants the first epic movie is definitely my all time favorite DreamWorks animation movie of all time!
Haven't seen any of these other than Kung Fu Panda 3 and HTTYD 3, loved both of those.

The bad guys higher than puss in boots the list wish? It definitely is a tie between the two movies right now. 2022 was just a massive standout for them overall!

I definitely admit the second boss baby movie was an improvement over the first. Jeff Goldblum was a standout as the main villain and I like the redemption he got at the end of the movie too.
I love both croods movies. I really hope we get a 3rd movie someday! Nicholas Cage and Peter Dinklage are absolute standouts I think!

VIVE LA FRANCE! 🇨🇵🇨🇵🇨🇵 I am French, like the man who created this movie. Diane Foxington is my favorite character from the movie. So badass!
But Trolls 2 says than rock is bad and pop music is good? I never seen this movie and this revelation makemesure than I never wants to saw this one day as a metal music lover. And unfortunately for Trolls 2, the Wolf of Puss in Boots 2 is litterally the Rammstein s singer from Dreamworks.
Prince of Egypt is stilly one of my favorite Dreamworks movies. HANDS DOWN!

Hello, it is me once again. My rankings for this era go as follows:
12: Spirit Untamed (Painfully dull movie that doesn't understand Stallion of the Cimarron, 1/10)
11: The Boss Baby (Confusing worldbuilding and a messy story, but had some nice imagination scenes and one or two funny jokes, 3/10)
10: Trolls (Tedious story and sappy feel made up for by an amazing sidekick in Branch and a really creative art style, 4/10)
9: Abominable (Shows a lot of promise in the first act, then becomes a fairly uninteresting journey with a poorly executed twist villain (but also a very well-done reverse antagonist), 5/10)
8: The Boss Baby: Family Business (A guilty pleasure of mine. It has a lot of energy and pretty engaging ideas, but it doesn't slow down to let the characters breathe, 5/10)
7: The Bad Guys (Never really got the hype for this one. It has some solid action scenes and a creative art style, but the pacing felt a bit too fast and it felt too similar to Megamind, 6/10)
6: Trolls World Tour (Really creative world expansion and some interesting subtexts dulled by more happy pastel Trolls shenanigans, 6/10)
5: The Croods: A New Age (It felt a bit too similar to the first, but it keeps it fresh with new dynamics and a vibrant, colorful atmosphere, 6/10)
4: Kung Fu Panda 3 (A solid 3rd movie with the same emotion as the other two, but a bit too much juvenile humor and a slightly weaker villain, 7/10)
3: Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (Captures the essence of the books perfectly and has a lot of heart, 9/10)
2: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (A bittersweet sendoff to the trilogy that patches up the holes of the first two, 9/10)
1: Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (Arguably the best Shrek movie, has a great balance of comedy and story with a well-written cast of characters and a mature, existential tone, 9/10)

I’ve just realized I’ve only seen one of these. Lots of the higher ranked ones interest me so I should get back on the dreamworks train and check them out
After the point when they got bought by universal (which was unexpected).
This timeline should be known as “redemption era” for the animation company. 😊
As a sidenote: they better not pull of a boss baby “trilogy”. Hope not. The first movie was okay though.

5. Captain Underpants
This movie has a lot of charm and effort put into it and takes a lot from the shows and expands upon it and the humour and action is also good making, as the title says, an epic movie.
4. The Bad Guys
This movie is a very good drama and a good message to people to be good. I also like the 2D by 3D animation that was my favourite part and the emotional parts hit as well like the time where Mr Snake and Big Bad Wolf were having a conversation while free falling.

How to train your dragon 3 (hidden world)
This might be the biggest hot take but this doesn't make the movie bad in fact I might think it would even be in the top 10 of my list (the 8 9 and 10/10s) but this movie is so incredible from the vilians to the animation and the ending was beautiful where the children of Hiccup were flying the dragons.
2. Puss in Boots 2 (the last wish)
This movie is epic and amazing and the villian *chefs kiss one of the best Villians in animatied movie history and the animation and story and especially the humor with Peritto (correct me if I'm wrong) and Goldilocks and the three bears were also good too but it still falls under one movie in this era...

Holy Shit this movie is awesome as hell this movie has good visuals and animation and the action is also cool (not as good as the first 2) and I like the part where he connects with his father and the panda village and the villan is also good (Kai) and I like how this movie connects to master oogway too and the humour is very funny and overall would enter at least at the top 5

He really said trolls and the bad guys was better than captain underpants and puss in boots 2 respectively (bad guys is good and I’m happier #1 is a good movie but is it really better than puss in boots 2)

You know I’m kind of surprised. You weren’t quite as harsh on spirit untamed as I thought you might’ve been but it definitely wasn’t a particular favourite of mine either. The original stallion of the Cimarron is definitely so much better.

Abominable is still a really enjoyable movie but it came out at the wrong time. Basically a year after smallfoot which follows a very similar premise.
I don't know how 'The Bad Guys' placed #1 above Puss in Boots 2, but opinion respected. Had it not been for the painfully unfunny bathroom jokes I would have LOVED the Bad Guys.

3. bad guys funniest move form this era with enjoyable characters and their interactions with rlly creative visuals and plot is just fine and it works bc of characters
4 captqin underpants: tfem incredibly funny not as bad guys and it have child like sensse of wonder and fun that is really amusing

good film amaising visuals decisions made by hickup feel out of character if you watched tv show and villan is just villan from show but scaled down in cantrast form grimmle viggo (guy from show) he is just band and not funny and also bunkers humor didn't work for this film bc we saw how smart they actually were so it also dumb i just didn't like villan it should have been more mensing and hiccup should have been smarter and also should call his allays form shows ( hot take) to help him fight that man
Puss in boots last wish is miles better than the 2011 movie and really stands out all on its own too.

Yup. Grew up with almost all of these movies, But you forgot 2 eras from Pixar. 1977-1986 and 1986-1989. I call them both The Lucas Era and The SIGGRAPH Era.
I did not forget anything. Those are not movies, they are experimental short films and tech tests. I will not be ranking them.

Dave, I don't wanna be toxic to you, and I respectfully understand why in your opinions in Trolls World Tour has too much preachy and heavy-handed things, plus you were thinking that Rock is bad and pop is good thing is outdated and possibly is a 75%maybe, also I don't think Queen Barb is a villain, she was a "Anti-hero" which I like that too; including the songs and animation, and really like the lore and tribes in it too, although Is not a "perfect" sequel, but sequels are sequels, plus it's underrated for a DreamWorks sequel like this, but still respect ya mate! 😐
In all fairness I enjoyed the second trolls movie then the first but I can understand it was a bit much for some people.

In all honesty the only dreamworks I didn’t like were Joseph king of dreams which was very predictable overall I thought even though it was straight to dvd and was expected. As well as sinbad legends of the seven seas. The CGI elements were such a mess I thought and costed the studio a lot of money. It’s the reason they don’t make 2D animated movies anymore as a matter of fact.

Personally the first 2 how to train your dragon movies were so much better than the 3rd movie. I just couldn’t take the villain as seriously. Drago from the second movie was way more memorable I thought!
