Hi, guys! As a Celtic polytheist, I am THRILLED you did one of my favourite bands, and one of the few to study history, archeology and mythology so deep, that they actually touch on theological themes, not just a "grab your sword and fight" most folk metal and pagan metal bands do. So just a few advices if you allow me: Eluveitie almost always sing about Gaul. Either historical events, or reconstructed Gaulish mythology, even when they borrow concepts with better known accounts, such the Irish mythological cycles, they turn it into a Gaulish context. It is usually accepted that in Celtic mythology, darkness is NOT bad, but origin of things: day is born out of night, the year starts in a winter night, the months are measured by moons, etc. Caesar said the Gauls believed to be descended from Dis Pater, an underwordly, dark deity. This is obviously a Roman interpretation, and the Gaulish deities most accepted as possible Dis Pater are Sucellus or Cernunnos. It is also a common belief that the Underworld (what's "under the earth") is both, land of the dead and the origin of life. That's why many underwordly gods, also have strong vegetal or spring associations. And Vin is right. There is such concept as "the Cauldron of Rebirth". Also, keep in mind Eluveitie have songs in reconstructed Gaulish or taken from Gaulish inscriptions. Songs like Carry the Torch. Also any song from the two acoustic albums, "Evocation I" and "Evocation II", are in Gaulish. If you wanna do them you need a translation (there are plenty, especially for Evocation II, in which each song is devoted to a Gaulish god or goddess). Personally, I recommend songs as Inis Mona, Havoc, Epona, Lvgvs, The Call of the Mountains, King, From Darkness, Sucellos or Quoth the Raven. They're all very different but all deal with Gaulish history and mythology. Keep up the good job and thanks for doing this!
VinAnd Sori It's superlate in my country, and I can only think of the group I am like friends with for the similarities of our religions (I worship the Celtic Iberian gods and them, the Gaulish gods), but you know, each group interprets mythology differently (kind of like different Churches see the Bible teachings differently). Also, Gaul isn't my field of expertise. But tomorrow I'll think about my Gaulish sources (modern religious or strictly historical) and put them here. Some things to look for sure are the Irish and Welsh mythological cycles (they were collected by Christian monks but are the most complete legends and folktales preserved, and many themes are common to all of the Celtic world, also deities that stems from a same ancestor, such as Lugh/Lugus, Brighid/Brigantia, etc.). Also "De Bello Gallico" (The Gallic War) is Caesar's comments on that war, and he speaks briefly on topics of their religion, pantheon, the druids, etc. Tommorrow I'll try to find more sources. Most are a compendium of translations of Gaulish and Latin inscriptions, archeological interpretation of remains, study of modern folk customs and of course, compared culture and mythology (mostly to other Celtic cultures). I will do my best, this is a topic I'm really passionate about! 😜.
I don't know a lot about Sucellus myself as I have never really felt a calling to know that particular deity. Gaulish polytheism is mostly lost to time, but this guy is one of the experts working to reconstruct it. polytheist.com/segomaros/2015/08/10/sucellus/
IXINineIXI The "Gaulish group I'm friends with" is precisely the group Segomaros is admin. and I think creator too lol. I'm making a series of videos and articles about Celtiberian deities and for those shared with Gaul (such as Cernunnos, Epona or Sucellos), he gelped me a lot with compared mythology.
Eluveitie (pronounced El-Vay-Tee) is the Etruscan word for "Helvetii", a tribe of Celts that inhabited Switzerland in ancient times. Throughout their career before the recent schism, the band's frontman Chrigel and former female singer/Hurdy-Gurdyist Anna Murphy also wrote and sung a lot of songs in the extinct language Gaulish, and this makes Eluveitie quite unique in Folk Metal. I recommend listening to their songs "Inis Mona" and/or "Slania" for a taste of their Gaulish side in their metal music. Also, check out their albums Evocation: The Arcane Dominion and Evocation II: Pantheon, the latter being their current female singer, Fabienne's (who you heard on "Rebirth") first release with them. These albums are exclusively Celtic Folk music and the majority of the songs are in Gaulish. Also, on the subject of inviting them to play around the fire lol, the song "Calling The Rain" is a great one to break out one's Celtic dancing chops to. It makes me want to get up on a table and just dance lol
Hi. React to Agalloch - In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion, great american folk/doom metal band. Also Bathory - One Rode to Asa Bay (Bathory was a one man band that pioneered both black metal and folk metal, huge influence on any band of those genres). I don't know how the situation with the japanese records associaction is now but if it calms down one day check Wagakki Band - Senbonzakura, great japanese folk metal/rock.
Just requested In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion (or just anything by Agalloch) on the Metallica video... Hope it happens, one of the best bands of these last 20 years. Love Bathory too, but since it's more "raw" (naturally), Agalloch would be my pick for them to listen to first.
Enter the eternal fire and A fine day to die would be my first go to for Bathory. Shores in flames and one road to asa bay next. Quorthon was an absolute genius!
Btw, i know you guys are going to do Epica - Kingdom Of Heaven. I want to ask you guys to do the studio version, the "live" version on youtube is not really live, the guy took amateur footages of the concert and put the studio audio mixed with the live audio. Here is the link to the studio version ua-cam.com/video/YIXA5DtmSUs/v-deo.html
I have to say Omnos would be fun to see them react to the lyrics (if they get the english version lyrics). Also I would say "quoth the raven " is a great song. I just need to say Slaina's Song is so GOOD!
Been following this band for probably about 14 years, fantastic stuff!:) Other great songs are for example: King, Inis Mona, Calling the Rain, of fire wind and wisdom, a rose for epona, helvetios, uis elveti
So glad you did Eluveitie, an amazing band with such a complex sound and expanded vocabulary! They are unique and different in many ways and are limitless! Thank you so Much for doing this kind of thing, Much
VinAnd Sori Yeah, it's usually interpreted as "the Helvetian", and it is an accounted inscription found in Mantua. It is inscribed in Etruscan and believed to be an Etruscan adaptation of Celtic "helvetios". Most accepted interpretation is that it was some sort of nickname of a citizen of Mantua with Helvetian ascendancy.
I think you'd love amorphis - amongst stars. It just came out last friday and also has the clean/harsh duality and imo, does not have that overpowering speed you complained about. It is also my favourite song released this year!
Before you guys blow my mind again and I forget to mention it, please check out Epica - Cry For The Moon. It's related to the stuff that happens in the catholic church behind closed doors. If you review it or just listen to it is the same to me. Would love your take on it though.
The official vid would have been 1000 times better...you kinda need to see them as well as hear them to get the full effect, imho. About 8 or 9 people in the band, including 3 women: In addition to the singer, the violin and hurdy gurdy player are both female as well. Even though you can't react to it now, you should check it out, cos it's awesome :). Not all of their songs are this "fast"'; as a matter of fact, their last CD was an all acoustic one. They do a pretty good mix of fast & slow on their "metal" albums. These guys are all about the Celtic experience centered around Switzerland & the Alps, and do quite a few songs in Gaulish, which is metal as f*** :). These guys are all great musicians, and you took the death metal aspects out of their music, they could hang with any "traditional" Celtic band out there. If you can't tell, this is one of my favorite bands. :)
Agreed. The video would've been better. A lot of the folk instruments get drowned out by the heavy nature of the song, sadly. Especially the hurdy gurdy.
I don´t think Tyr (norse god of war, by the way) sound thrash...first albums were more progressive and later they became more power-metal... Also changed from mainly Feroese to mainly English..
Otsobeltz Tyr is actually the God of Justice and heroic deeds. So not "purely the God of War", just like Odin is the God of poetry, wisdom and war. A common mistake easily made! I just burn for it so I like to clear things up when I see it, hehe. Nothing personal. And I have to agree, Tyr isn't very trash metal.. it is a good band tho! Been a fan for many many years now
By the way: when Eluveitie refers to "the bright sun of the night", they most likely refers to the god Sucellos. "Bright sun of the night" is one of the lines of the song "Sucellos".
Woooo, I never thought that they react to this band, the fusion is incredible! nice, and If you liked the change of voices between man and woman, you need to listen to Epica! (Dream Theater - In the name of god)
Speaking of rebirth, please check out Epica - Kingdom Of Heaven. It's another subgenre that you haven't covered yet - symphonic metal. And they also have that female/male vocal dynamic.
They have said they had no idea about folk metal existing and then you go and suggest they do something less mainstream? Does not compute. Suggest something.
Thank you both so much for checking out this amazing band! I would also recommend Wintersun, either Sons of Winter and Stars or anything from The Four Seasons album. Epic, sweeping songs.
Christians can also be empty inside. Reading bible everyday or praise him it's not always a point. Of course it important but everything starts what you feel in your heart. Everyone have dry seasons life and happiness, joy comes for sure also. It's about to find yourself that's the question. Where im standing right now. Good rewiew guys.
WOOHOO! I love love this video guys! Eluveitie is a band focused on Gaulish culture. In fact, they are the ones who pushed the revival of the Gaulish language. Which they do have songs in Gaulish.
Thank you for reacting to this band. Eluveitie is my favourite metal band ever. I would love to see a reaction to one of their older songs: Tegernakô. I am planning to have this title (combined with celtic art and Mjölnir) tattooed on my arm. The title means "kingly" and it tells the story of a gaulish tribe who, when confronted by the roman troops, chose death over slavery. They fought to the bitter end and refused to give in. My father passed away from cancer a few years ago and to me this song symbolizes his struggle to me. He fought to the bitter end to stay with us.
Vin! If you really are into mythology like that, Septicflesh is perfect for you. They are from Greece, and compose superb metal. If only people could get past the "gang green" name! I would argue that they are better than most metal. Thanks for the 7.5 on this I agree. That is generous lol
Gojira Rules I strongly disagree it's generous. Even inside the folk metal scene Eluveitie are unique, technically talented, blend both genres better than most and put double the effort in studying history, archeology and mythology for their lyrics. I agree though, that Septicflesh are superb and better than most metal bands. Their lyricism is also amazing, I still shiver with the genius lyrics of mentioning the original titles in "Lovecraft's Death".
Glad you're expanding your horizons! There are so many sub genres of metal out there! Gotta try symphonic/melodic metal next. Nightwish - Song of Myself live from Wacken show.
I'm very late with this comment, but I hope you'll see it. I'm so glad you did a reaction to Eluveitie, this is one of my favorite bands. Maybe this not the best introduction to them, as this is their most recent song and the album is not out yet. They changed their line-up a lot in 2016 with 3 key members leaving and forming a new band called Cellar Darling. With this song they really get faster and heavier than they usually were in the past. I will repeat the shouts for "Quoth the Raven" and "King". Also, I recommend checking a music video by them maybe just for yourself) to see the instruments they play. Some of them are exotic and their sound is almost getting lost in the music, but they add a nice touch to the song.
Check out Týr it's a folk metal band from the Faroe Islands, I recommend their songs "Blood of Heroes", "Hel Hath No fury" or "Hold the Heathen Hammer High".
Been listening to metal for 20 years, every day I hear a new band/ new type of music. Metal is definitely a genre you can almost never be considered an expert in. I love how diverse the channel has been so far. Even if you guys only listen to 1 song from each sub genre for the next year, still probably wouldn't cover them all haha Nightwish "Wish I Had an Angel" would be cool video to see you guys break down. Also, nidus from their angle would mean place of origin in this specific instance.
"El-Vay_Tee." This is what I love about Art. Be it a painting, a novel, or a song. Its meaning is what it means to the audience member. "Rebirth", means something in a single life, or in the context as Christian people, or in a system of eternal Earthly life. I love this song, and spending time watching the two of you talk about it enhances my experience of it. Thanks!
Firstly I want to thank you for doing this your reactions were very interesting. (in a good way.) Secondly as a polytheistic person I want to say you have earned my respect in the way you tryed to break down the song with the reference you had. You handled it better than most of my Christian friends did. I think thirdly would be that you didn't know about the band history so you missed the double entendre that they were also talking about this being the first song with this female lead vocalist and it being her first lead down the Metal rabbit hole. Lastly I want to say I'm interested,to say the least, to see the reaction to the real Tolkien inspired band Cruachan! (E- loo- vi- tee) sounds like Hobbits made a metal band Cruachan actually uses Tolkien Universe as inspection for some songs.
Cheers from the hometown of this band! I feel like you should watch the original video, because like that it‘s easy to miss out on the variety of instruments involved in this song. Also, with Folk Metal, the video can get you into the right atmosphere. But it‘s really cool to see you guys reacting to this! You should check oit more of their songs, even the very first ones. They go from very heavy to almost kind of poprock.
Not sure if these bands have been requested but they need to be, testament-practice what you preach, one of my favorite solos and death-flesh and the power it holds for the lyrics and music chuck was an absolute genius love to see the lyrical breakdown of that song
Hi guys, great reaction, as always! Eluveitie is a great folk metal band - and a great intro to the genre. I would also suggest checking out Fintroll (e.g. Födosagan or any song from the Jaktens Tid album) or Wings of Time by Tyr. However, my favorite folk metal song of all time, however, is Noregsgard by Storm (although the entire Nordavind album is great!) - very curious how you’d find it!
El-Way-Tee. Means “I am the Helvetian” from the ancient Celtic dialect. Helvetia was the Roman name for their province in modern day Switzerland. Eluvietie explores themes of the ancient Celts and their subjugation by Rome as well as Celtic mythology
Eluveitie is an exceptional band! Love them and, yes, you two are ok with feeling like wanting to grab some beers and toast hehe! They do make great epic, powerful songs and very awesome, folk hymns too. If you want some serious beer drinking folk metal, I recommend amazing Finnish band Korpiklaani "Wooden Pints", Turisas "Battle Metal" or even Ensiferum. Cheers Vin and Sori!
Fun reaction! There are many genres you have yet to still discover such as PIRATE METAL! I recommend you check out the band Alestorm from Scotland! The song: "Drink" is an ode to pirates and their alcohol.
ya know Drink is great, but shock value aside, I think Fucked with an Anchor is them at their best. killer melodies and a song that is just absolutely hysterical.
"Fucked With An Anchor" is indeed one of their most hilarious but if you want Alestorm at their "best" and most grandiose and epic, I would pick, "1741 (The Battle of Cartagena)". It is a monster metal song
I started watching your channel to see how Christians felt about Ghost, but honestly your intelligent, thoughtful analyses of insights into the music and meanings of a lot of different bands drew me in. As a person who has been in and out of Christianity throughout my life and pretty opposed to it these days, that really impressed me! Every single video I have watched has been nothing but EXTREMELY interesting, but imagine how excited I was to see you guys reviewing one of my all-time favorite bands! I still want to see you guys have a deep discussion with Nergal, but I also really really hope to see you guys do more videos on Eluveitie. I would love to see you guys review Inis Mona, King, or Tegernako. Make it happen and I'll put in a good word with Nergal haha!
Noticed Sori using a straw to drink the water, hooray for no more drips! Crap... I just dripped my own water. That was my first time hearing that song, but I love the lyrical content and how deep you two get with this stuff! Looking forward to Orphaned Land! Keep up the awesome work guys!
You guys need to check out the official video for this song. It really displays the amazing musicianship of the band. Also check out king and tarvos from them but all their stuff is amazing.
Hell yeah! Eluveitie are such an overlooked band. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. Once again, I'd love to see your reaction to "Advent Sorrow - Pestilence Shall Come" I really want to see your reaction to a Black Metal band/music video that focuses on raw emotion and humanity instead of left hand path philosophy.
Sori: not sure about the Gaulish version of the cauldron they're mentioning below, but the Welsh version of it is associated with death, although not really death itself. The cauldron is owned by Arawn, god of death, he places the dead in it and they come back to life. Reincarnation, more or less.
The name of this swiss band comes from the old name of Switzerland „Confoderatio Helvetica (Eluveitie)“ That‘s the reason that the swiss websites end of „.ch“ too.
Their is a school of thought that links the grail cycle of myths to the cauldron idea, it also involves swords in lakes, and the sword in the stone being a bronze blade being cast, with a stone mold..anyway, the idea of the purifying cauldron/grail after a quest in which the seeker suffers and is purified, with a weapon from the gods/heavens from the memory of how swords were made, and the blade being returned to the heavens, with water as the portal (they still find old swords in rivers in the UK at least, and the habit of offering swords to water continued to at least the 14th century), and evidence of the idea being truly ancient with the bog offerings being found from Celtic times, everything from blades, works of art, household goods up to the bog bodies, which are either human sacrifice, or criminals executed as a sacrificial rite.
Final comment, i promise. Some other bands in this genre (and adjacent genres) are Heidevolk (dutch pagan metal band that tell the story of the Batavi people. My ancestors), Finntroll (progentaros of folk metal), Alestorm (Scottish Pirate metal. a "party" band) Arkona (russian pagan metal band that take a lot of inspiration from the traditions of the old Rus) and Ensiferum.
I believe the proper pronunciation is: el-VAY-tee. I definitely prefer their output when Anna was still in the band (original female vocalist and hurdy-gurdyist). Check out The Call of the Mountains, A Rose for Epona, Inis Mona, and Omnos for what I personally think are their best tracks. Super happy you guys liked them and want to explore them more!
These guys recently underwent a lineup change, with this song being from the newest lineup. 3 members left, and formed their own band. Some similar themes, but still an entirely unique band. You could listen to a song from their older lineup, My suggestion is Thousandfold. And you could also listen to a song from the band the ex-members formed, called Cellar Darling! My suggestion for them has to be either Challenge, or Six Days.
Eluvetie is a really good celtic band. The elvetes celts were the tribe from was is mow swiss (hence the name). If you want a song that expplain a bit of the celtic history and reliegion you should really check out Alesia, which was the name of the Oppidum where Vercingétorix last faced Julius Caesar.
Thanks for reviewing this one. Like NeObliviscaris where I have the urge to take up heavy metal violin, Eluvetie, I have the same urge to take up heavy metal flute and hurdy gurdy.. watching them do this one live or indeed any of their songs you won’t feel the speed as you will be caught up in the performance. And yes turn off your phone. Haha.
Eluveitie has amazing songs and as a folk metal head i enjoy watching people geting into this genre of metal. You should also checkout Ensiferum a finnish folk metal band one of my favs , recommended songs ( Into battle , Lost in despair , Victory songs ) Or Arkona is also a folk metal band from russia ( Slavsia rus , Nikogda , Yarilo are amazing songs . .And if you want interesting poetry you should listen to Summoning ,a atmospheric black metal band who uses poems from tolkien and is a whole middle earth themed band , recommended songs ( Khazad dum , Earth shine , Cadahras , old mornings dawn )
Check out battlelore - Journey to Undying Lands or Thousand Caves. I think Sori would love them. They use the same "beauty and the beast" style of vocals and combine elements of folk and melodic death metal among others and their lyrics are based on J.R.R Tolkien Middle-Earth sagas..
Just recently started watching your channel. Great stuff. I dont know if you've ever heard of either of these 2 bands but if you havent, you coukd give them a whirl. For Today - Break the Cycle Sleeping Giant - No love actually pretty much any song from either of those 2 bands rock. A little story, I dont consider myself a religious person in any shape or form but when i listen to either of those 2 bands (For Today and Sleeping Giant), I am moved by something that Ive never experienced anywhere else. I would love to see your reaction to either or both of these bands if they are new to you. Looking forward to many more of your videos. Rock on.
Eluveitie has had 3 major members (female vocalist/Hurdy-Gurdy player, drummer, and guitarist) leave in 2016 and it's not bad now but to me it's not really the same in terms of emotion levels. The song you heard is with the new members. Eluveitie basicly talks about the gauls, talk about the experience of the war and being invaded by Rome, talk about gallic mythology, that kind of things. Some of my favourite tracks are Uxellodunon - Uxellodunon was the last town to fall to Rome, and they did not surrender. Mainly harsh vocals and very poignant lyrics Dessumiis Luge - fully acoustic song but SO powerful. It means "I Swear on Lugh", it's a curse whose lyrics were taken from the Chamalières tablet and were written by actual gaul people. the lyrics are in gaulish but there are english translations Quoth The Raven
Mickael C For much that I would like to include Lugus (as my name suggests), last interpretations of the text are inclined to translate it otherwise. Since apparently "lug-" is also a term for "swear, oath", it would require that "Luge" means either the god or the verb, not both. I read somewhere that some important linguists proposed "By my right (hand) I swear", but not sure about it. And yes, I agree the song is powerful. Tribal in sound and mystical in feeling.
So I guess I'll point out one thing. The band (who are Swiss FYI) are telling their story (songs) from he PoV of Pagan Celts. So its Polythesitic stories that they are using for their point of reference. The Celts (Gauls in this case) believed life was a cycle, so this could be seen as the cycle from one life to the next.

Do me a favor and get me the links to places where I can educate myself more on this so we can speak more intelligently to the lyrics

A fellow celtic polytheist! There are dozens of us! Edit: I honor the Gaulish gods myself.

Holy crap! Yes, this band is amazing. Check out A Rose for Epona, Omnos, The Nameless and Helvetios. You guys! This is amazing!
Also, first.
Or not.
John-Michael Hatch the siege and havoc these two songs are great
Eluveitie (pronounced El-Vay-Tee) is the Etruscan word for "Helvetii", a tribe of Celts that inhabited Switzerland in ancient times. Cole Jordan everytime when it rains and i have to walk through it ill put on calling the rain and then just enjoy it.
Check out Eluveitie - King it's a piece of art
Especially the violin/flute solo. ^^
Haha wait dont spoil it for them ;)
YES! Thousandfold is good as well.
Djghost454 I was rocking it at the GYM this morning
I mean in my opinion eluveitie can’t do no wrong what ever they pick ill be fine with

AegisAmetista I love that a few of us are recommending In the Shadow... Hoping to see it soon

They should just react to The Mantle as a whole
All good suggestions here. But Senbonzakura is not a great example of Wagakki band imo. I like Howling off the new album.
I love Eluveitie so sad to see Anna Murphy part with them. you should listen to more of them like Do minion, or inis mona.
Her demonic banshee vocals are so epic, miss that shit...
GothicTech i love eluveitie too but i m not do fond of the new album... I really preffer the older ones
Even the other evocation album
it's pronounced El-vay-tee
or King :)
Farnael75 (i prefer the songs that came before king)
The Call of the Mountains is also a great song by these guys.
YEEESSS!
Would be great, If Sori and Vin react to the english AND the Version in swiss-german language. 😁
Eluveitie - A rose for Epona
Those are called beauty and the beast vocals, when you have an agelic female voice with agressive male vocals. Epica does it too.
No wayyyy!!! I almost said that!!!! -Sori🤟🏻
EPICAAAA
I honestly think Consign to Oblivion live would be better. At least it has to be done, it's an absolute gem.
Bu they have Sancta Terra and Kingdom of Heaven in their list.
Yay! You finally did Eluveitie :D
Now you need to listen to their track called King
And a quick bump because
No Omnos? I'm disappointed son :D
Per Mawl I'm a bit iffy about omnos mostly because I find Anna's vocals on there a bit too overpowering compared to the instrumentation
I have to say Omnos would be fun to see them react to the lyrics (if they get the english version lyrics). Also I would say "quoth the raven " is a great song. I just need to say Slaina's Song is so GOOD!
MahliZ * I legit derped the moment I realized I hadn't included Quoth the Raven. Thank you
Nice and solid list \m/ I personally would add Nil, Thousandfold and Epona
You guys should really watch the music video for this song. It's really awesome.
Agreed, I was a bit upset that they aren't seeing how awesome the music video at the same time. :(
leo Absolutely. Many of their videos are great!
And a live version....
Death-Flesh and the power it holds
Testament-low
Amon amarth- gaurdains of Asgaurd
Been following this band for probably about 14 years, fantastic stuff!:)
Other great songs are for example: King, Inis Mona, Calling the Rain, of fire wind and wisdom, a rose for epona, helvetios, uis elveti
How could anyone not like a metal band with a flute, violin, bagpipes and a hurdy-gurdy
Blind Guardian would be perfect for Sori
darrell wood OMG YESS!!
darrell wood yes. Road of no release.
And then there was silence
Mirror Mirror, Valhalla, The Bards song, The list goes on
I'm a pretty big fan of A Twist in the Myth in general. Haha, Turn the Page. Would they get the meaning to "Fly"?
I would sure love to see more Eluveitie reactions on here.
Who else is looking forward for the Wintersun - Sons of winter and stars reaction ?!
Live rehearsal Sonic Pump Studios version!!! ;)
Absolutely!
Are they doing it?
In my understanding they said during one of their livestreams they would do it
Love the channel! If you want to check out more Eluveitie please listen to Thousandfold next!
Thank you ! Yes more coming !!
REACT! to "A home" by Rivers of nihl (some modern death metal)
Please react to judas priest - traitors gate 😊
Yes! I prefer Eluveitie with Anna Murphy, but the new singer is still great.
So glad you did Eluveitie, an amazing band with such a complex sound and expanded vocabulary! They are unique and different in many ways and are limitless! Thank you so Much for doing this kind of thing, Much
Here, I shall once again, without shame, recommend Wintersun. "Starchild" is probably a good one to start with.
El-Vey-Tee.
Derived from the ancient Helvetii tribe in modern Switzerland.
Thank you !!
We missed the memo in Greece and we still call the Swiss Eluveitie (Elvetos singular).
The Internet top-level-domain for Switzerland is .ch, which stands for Confoederatio Helvetica (Latin for Swiss Confederation).
I think you'd love amorphis - amongst stars. It just came out last friday and also has the clean/harsh duality and imo, does not have that overpowering speed you complained about. It is also my favourite song released this year!
Yes, Amorphis are great. Excellent melodies yet sometimes have the heavy death metal vocals.
Eluvietie are amazing for so many reasons. I love the way you guys breakdown songs I debate with my friends like this all the time
That was actually pretty good never heard of them before. Check out korpiklaani tapporauta some more folk style metal
Perhaps suggesting a song in English? 😁
But yeah, more Folk Metal!
Before you guys blow my mind again and I forget to mention it, please check out Epica - Cry For The Moon. It's related to the stuff that happens in the catholic church behind closed doors. If you review it or just listen to it is the same to me. Would love your take on it though.
Bara Robber Baron my favourite Epica's song!
Live : unreal.
I think you might like Tyr. Viking metal. Sort of thrash meets norse folk, norse saga.
I don´t think Tyr (norse god of war, by the way) sound thrash...first albums were more progressive and later they became more power-metal...
Also changed from mainly Feroese to mainly English..
I'd say their early stuff is very much Nordic Folk-Music played on modern instruments. They have however become more "thrashy" of late
Been a fan for many many years now
Kjell Kristian Heidal, I have to give you a thumb up! yes, I tend to write as little as possible and leave things out :o)
Tyr seconded! I'd like them to hear "Ragnarok"
By the way: when Eluveitie refers to "the bright sun of the night", they most likely refers to the god Sucellos. "Bright sun of the night" is one of the lines of the song "Sucellos".
Woooo, I never thought that they react to this band, the fusion is incredible! nice, and
If you liked the change of voices between man and woman, you need to listen to Epica!
(Dream Theater - In the name of god)
Hey guys! Ya'll ought to check out "Hold the Heathen Hammer High" by Tyr! Great song!
I'd like to suggest Watain - The Wild Hunt. Greetings from Brazil!
Progenies of the great apocalypse
by Dimmu Borgir
J. P. Brandão the Serpentine Offering would be good as well.
Omg I read that as "Perogies of the Great Apocalypse." Briefly very confused. Lol
Yes
Speaking of rebirth, please check out Epica - Kingdom Of Heaven. It's another subgenre that you haven't covered yet - symphonic metal. And they also have that female/male vocal dynamic.
RecursiveTree fuck yes. It has the best solo. 13 minutes of pure eargasm
just an EPICA fan you should never mess with lmao dude i see you in every epica video. I see you are a huge fan as well.
Thank you! Please do similar content! (Less Mainstrem)
Very good point !
Problem with that is since we are all sinners, our hearts can be very treacherous and deceiving
That's what i talking about. And it's true we are al sinners
Jeez, it’s like you guys are going through my music collection!! Next you’re going to do Amaranthe or Nightwish
Great!!....listen KING from Eluveitie!...Switzerland rocks🤘👍😊
Glad you're expanding your horizons! There are so many sub genres of metal out there! Gotta try symphonic/melodic metal next. Nightwish - Song of Myself live from Wacken show.
Progressive Power Metal (Seventh Wonder, Circus Maximus, Pagan's Mind, DGM)
Welcome to Folkmetal! over the last few years I have become dam obsessed with this genre
Welcome to folk metal, we have been waiting for you
Check out Týr it's a folk metal band from the Faroe Islands, I recommend their songs "Blood of Heroes", "Hel Hath No fury" or "Hold the Heathen Hammer High".
Or try out one of my favorite Ne Obliviscaris songs, "Eyrie". I feel like Sori will really like that one.
Thanks!
"I dun-I just think they're a metal band and they wanted to play fast" haha :D That's definitely the case alot of times!
Blind Guardian - Imagination From The Other Side
Death - Flesh and the power it holds, and Septicflesh - Anubis
This band is amazing. Respect to their members, they are doing masterpice music in every album \m/
You should try some of their older songs like "your gaulish war" "havoc" "the siege" or "calling the rain"
Other Eluveitie songs I'd recommend are The Call of the Mountains, King, A Rose for Epona,
Dissection-Thorns of crimson death
Epica ...sori you will love it
Check out "Calling the rain" or "Inis Mona" really good
King by Eluveitie is also another good one.
The first Folk Metal band was Cruachan from Ireland. Check them out! (Anti Christian)
Slanias song by Eluveitie is amazing and I recommend that
Fun reaction!
A Rose For Epona and Anagantios are my personal favorite Eluveitie song they're beyond amazing.
I like the consistency: "I have never heard a folk metal before" and "It was nothing new". :D
You guys need to check out the official video for this song. It really displays the amazing musicianship of the band. Also check out king and tarvos from them but all their stuff is amazing.
Dude, you guys need to do more Eluveitie!
Eluveitie is so good.. i got to see them live once blew my mind
My favs from Eluveitie are King and Inis Mona. Thanks for this reaction!
Finally you get to the good stuff of the metal :)
Summoning is the band that would eternally play in Tolkien's world.
Epica-Kindom of heaven
Eluveitie - Epona is my favorite one, and Anna Murphy left and is in Cellar Darling - Avalance. those are my 2 faves you guys should check them out.
This band has a very good library, should do more of their songs
Check out battlelore - Journey to Undying Lands or Thousand Caves. I think Sori would love them. They use the same "beauty and the beast" style of vocals and combine elements of folk and melodic death metal among others and their lyrics are based on J.R.R Tolkien Middle-Earth sagas..
I love listening to the analisis you do to these beautiful songs. I love Eluveitie
thank you guys!!!
King, Thousandfold,Quoth the Raven, Alesia, Inis Mona,Call of the Mountains. All good songs by this band
Folk Metal too
Arkona - Yarilo
Villagers Of Ioannina City - Ti Kako
Just recently started watching your channel. Great stuff. I dont know if you've ever heard of either of these 2 bands but if you havent, you coukd give them a whirl.
For Today - Break the Cycle
Sleeping Giant - No love
actually pretty much any song from either of those 2 bands rock.
Some of my favourite tracks are
Uxellodunon - Uxellodunon was the last town to fall to Rome, and they did not surrender. Mainly harsh vocals and very poignant lyrics
Dessumiis Luge - fully acoustic song but SO powerful. It means "I Swear on Lugh", it's a curse whose lyrics were taken from the Chamalières tablet and were written by actual gaul people. the lyrics are in gaulish but there are english translations
Quoth The Raven
Mickael C For much that I would like to include Lugus (as my name suggests), last interpretations of the text are inclined to translate it otherwise. Since apparently "lug-" is also a term for "swear, oath", it would require that "Luge" means either the god or the verb, not both. I read somewhere that some important linguists proposed "By my right (hand) I swear", but not sure about it.
And yes, I agree the song is powerful. Tribal in sound and mystical in feeling.
I LOVE THEM!!!! If your looking for more to listen to by them one of my personal favorites is You Gaulish War
