"Easy win against Ray Mercer" First mistake. Mercer had one of the best chins in heavyweight boxing history. Very tough guy to knock out. Tommy Morrison unloaded on Ray and beat his ass up for 3-4 rounds and Ray hung on and turned around and whipped Morrison's ass. I've seen very few guys take that sort of beating and not lose. Tough dude.
Ray is so underrated. He was a ring general & brilliant ring tactician. He knew Tommy would gas out with in 5 rounds, and basically took everything he had.

I remember hearing a bit about this when he testified before the senate committee that I watched here on You Tube. He actually cracked up a few of them (along with the other folks in the room) with the answer he gave when questioned by someone on the committee.
Committee asked what "deterrent" exists to make sure Snipes would follow Sammy's plan and lose to Damiani, Sammy says, "Based on my and John's reputation, if Snipes knocked Damiani out by accident, he'd pick him back up." Sammy looked dead serious, funny in itself

If I remember correctly ...Ray Mercer was a former Marine fighting out of Newark Nj. 1 tough son of a b....also if I remember correctly n just as surprising to me at the time...Evander Holyfield fought a war with him n was the first person to knock him down in a late rd decider for the cards. At least thats how i remember it though it feels like a hundred years ago now.
I don't know if Sammy will read this, but not only he's a great story teller, he also gives a surprising perspective on this world. Because besides being a cold blooded killer, the man also had heart. We can all aknowledge the fact that behind the brutality of these tough guys there is human feelings, love and respect. I'm so impressed with this man. Besides everything he's done, I respect his attitude, his honesty and the way he talks about former associates : always true and respectful.

I watched Reynaldo Snipes fight in Las Vegas. Every time he got hit in the face he would just smile. That unnerved the hell out of me. You don't see that everyday.

In their title fight, Snipes knocked Larry Holmes down and almost out. Holmes looked like he had been shot.
They would likely have stopped it these days....The way Larry fell into the ring post....and he was back in control by the end of the round.

A few days ago I watched a good boxing movie, well made on low budget, involving the Japanese Yakuza. The American boxer was a WW2 soldier in the Pacific. The Japanese trainer was an Imperial Japan soldier of WW2.

I met Renaldo Snipes about 2 years ago at a cigar lounge he's a regular at in NYC. He's a very friendly guy, he talked about how he was supposed to fight Tyson, also told me he was Wesley Snipes cousin. Had hands the size of baseball mits I'd never want to get in the ring with him

This was such a nice wholesome story about boxing and I enjoyed nobody's getting killed for a change, not even hurt. A good happy ending and Sammy walked away both times. A miracle.

I once talked smack about Tommy Morrison on a match up with Tyson, and Morrison happened to be behind me, in a random Circle K in Kansas City, where he is from. I was only 13 at the time. I miss Morrison.

Renaldo Sbipes was the real deal. He knocked Larry Holmes on his ass.

Mercer was actually a much better fighter than Snipes. Would have been better to have fed Damiani a fringe contender.
Snipes did better against a Prime Holmes than Mercer did against a 42 year old Holmes who already got destroyed by Tyson.
Mercer has fought tough punchers and has taken on almost everyone throughout his entire career.
Ray Mercer lost only to a few guys & all were the best in their day. He went 36-7-1 in 44 pro fights. He lost only to the likes of Wladimir Klitschko Lennox Lewis & Evander Holyfield all of whom became World Champions.You needed to fix the Mercer fight too. The Italian guy was not in Merciless Ray Mercer's league.
Sammy, Francesco Damiani was actually a world Champ, he held the WBO from 1987-1989.

Snipes was Inducted into the New York Boxing Hall of fame 4 years ago. He's still healthy as a young man for his age. He looks great & seem's happy.
He still lives in NYC. He currently is involved in numerous charity fund-raising projects and was also awarded the "Ring 8 2012 Community Service Award". He was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame on Nov 1, 2006. I really like him as a person, of course I mean thru interviews - I've never laid eyes on the guy.
I love boxing stories. My father and uncle were professionals and my uncle actually spoke with you once in Brooklyn about opening a gym. Thanks for the story and please do more if you have them.

This book is huge, thousands of pages long, stands about 24" tall & you have the only key. What you release are chapters of this book. When those chapters are done bring manhandled at the end of the day the book is locked tight as a drum until only you unlock the book. You are the Master of your domain.
