- Trains and cars don't mix, especially when the vehicle is a stolen police cruiser. Luckily, the officers were able to pull the man inside the patrol car to safety.

Can we just talk for a second about the neat heat signatures in the helicopter footage? From how we can see the heat on each of the locomotive's engines and radiators, including the rear fan of the lead locomotive dispersing heat, too the pinpricks of the ditch lights flashing (If you've never been close to them, the ditch lights put off a LOT of heat). As well as how after the vehicle is struck and the train goes into emergency, (2:16) you can see the wheelsets heating up as the brakes are applied.

Being a cop these days is tough, props to this police department for getting the guy and appropriately charging him.

This reminds me of another incident that happened recently in Colorado. Police pulled over a woman named Yareni Rios (search name for body cam). They stopped their police cruiser on a hot rail crossing, handcuffed the woman put her in the backseat of the cruiser while they searched her car. Along came a freight train a plowed straight into the cruiser. She survived, it was at night too so train wouldn't have much time to react. I honestly don't think you guys over there have fear of railway lines like the rest of us.

Im guessing the leading locomotive of the train was NS 1202, It has a P5 Horn and it was an SD70ACE. So it's gotta be 1202.
Some people have bad idea, i wish everyone would respect all the rules and be in peace.
What I find bizarre is that from the officer’s bodycam audio, you can hear a NCP5A. But the heli clip shows an SD70M-2 leader (notice the rear radiator fans).

Imagine what the train crew was thinking. This wasn’t just any stupid driver, he probably wasn’t intending to jump the crossing when bells were ringing, he just flat out crashed on it unintentionally trying to flee from the cops

I’m a bit curious I have a set of train horns on my truck and so when i see a train I always honk at it and if it’s stopped not moving they’ll honk back but when there on the move they don’t so I was wondering if they had some type of regulations where they can only honk at certain parts of the tracks or something and I don’t know if it’s state by state thing either but I live in Georgia as well
Train crews are not supposed to use the horn unnecessarily.

Very interesting indeed! Here in Bismarck ND we have a single track main. It runs straight through downtown. It’s pretty common for homeless, drunk or criminals to run onto the tracks and get struck.

Having watched a lot of california police chases before this, I think I can safely say that there enough crackheads out there that can't tell the difference between reality and a videogame that it's entirely possible that's what he thought he was doing.

Theft by taking? How else can you steal something? That train was amazingly close. That guy could have easily been dead, if not for the quick actions of those officers. Thankfully the car didn't get knocked into them.

Judging from where Zone 4 is in Atlanta, It wouldn't be far-fetched to assume the Thief was an Antifa Member Or Activist Protesting the 'Cop City' Construction.
Likely he attempted Suicide by Train or Cop in Order to further inflame the Ugly Situation in Atlanta.
Thankfully, Officers did their Job. A Damaged / Lost Traffic Car is nothing compared to the loss of life, even if the person responsible was flat out stupid.

it's infuriating how these cops had to risk their own safety for a stupid idiot like this. it was literally only a few seconds between the guy getting freed by the police and the train's impact on the car.

Curious how they get the thief out soon before the train comes, while other officers parked on the tracks, put who they pulled over into that car, and left her unable to get out on her own when the train came. Quite the double standard.
