Cause: T001 Roadbed settled or soft
Lots of twisted metal and mud - that's probably the best way to describe this Norfolk Southern train derailment scene in Jasper, Alabama.

When I worked for CSX MoW in the mid 90s, NS MoW was the gold standard. Everywhere their lines crossed ours (this was in central VA), my guys would marvel at how beautiful their RoW looked and ask me why ours couldn’t look like theirs … no mud, pumping, weeds, tree limbs, fouled ditches, etc. Their ballast shoulders looked like they had been profiled with a laser.
I live a few miles from here. I passed by and saw u filming this. Always love your videos. Great work as always.
Washed out rails and bedding is a good possible explanation based upon previous downpours and the elevation of the track.
As for washouts, that was the cause of a Canadian Pacific train derailment that happened in Rockwood, ME just a few days ago. All three locomotives on the head end of the train derailed along with several lumber cars behind them. The locomotives caught fire and the train crew made it out safely. One of the locomotives from the images I saw was CP
It’s insane how many derailments there are with less crews and longer trains seems like the norm
Ring ring
Man, I hate it when that happens! Everyone knows the engine room is just ahead of shaft alley which is just ahead of the maneuvering room. Great video and update, thanks
I'm 100% sure that UP engine will head to north little rocks Jenks shops for a total rebuild. I've seen UPRR locomotives tore up alot worse that that have been fixed. They will bring her back.
CP 121 Derailed early Saturday morning, 7011 turned to dust. That thing can't even be scrapped, it's completely gone.
Rainfall. This reminds me of a train derailment back in 2020 in Lilburn, GA. (Also involving the brave police officer who rescued the train crew.)
Charlie, thanks for the update! Nice drone work!
Awesome video as always. Thank goodness no one was injured or hurt in this derailment. Equipment can be rebuilt or replaced. Not people.
Well done my friend
Ouch, Charlie. I would bet my last dollar that all the rains caused a washout. It certainly did a number on the locomotive. I wonder if the unusual weather of this winter and spring played havoc with the rail bed.
V12, not sure if you remember me from way back when you did that video in atlanta and it was snowing. Amtrak was rolling through and got stopped due to csx being stalled at howell. I was the dispatcher working that day.
Appreciate the factual coverage and drone footage.
Everytime I see a derailment with the "yellow box car" with the black doors is what reminds me of the Palestine crash...
Wow. Thanks for the video.
I find your videos very interesting. Everybody that has an interest in trains should be subscribed to your channel! Thank you for quality content!
