"It was a dark and stormy cliché" was so simple and yet so elegant
Indeed
He’s so good at these!
Having a good old fashioned dark night with a storm is classic rather than a cliche in my humble opinion.
But that chachter has everything A Twilight Fantasy, immortality and weslth...She did not smog him right!! 😂
15:33 is what my main issue with the film was. If the Dracula wanna be would have kept his seduction game going a little longer, I think he could have Twilighted Evie into falling in love with him and maybe turning willingly. But killing a lady in front of her and then forcing the marriage, how could anyone have thought that would work out?
How did you miss one of the main points of the movie? The women are nothing more than property to him. He doesn't care about getting her to turn willingly. He only cares about taking possession of her.
@@amityislandchum Yeah, but it's less about getting her to love him or consent to vampirism and more about how it is so much easier to manipulate a willing target. Think about how cults irl operate, they don't show their hand until their target is actively drinking the kool-aid. Also, he doesn't have any safeguards against being killed by those he turned. It's just reckless and stupid, not cunning and manipulative.
@@amityislandchum You've missed my point. Him just turning Heel and terrifying her at the end makes most of the front end of the movie redundant. Why the flirts and romantic walks alone then, if he was gonna just force her any way.
This.
True blood had some excellent points about vampirism and modern science.
That there's reasons not to kill the victim most times.
Especially for vampires who have the power of hypnosis.
Take a couple of pints from a rotation of victims.
They're drinking her blood from regular glassware anyway.
"I have a genetic disorder. It can't be helped. But I love you, Eevie."
Exactly. It was like dude you wasted all this time trying the seduction game and then just decide to rush it all of sudden? lol
Fun fact not all reflective surfaces are a giveaway for vampires. Old mirrors are because they were made of silver but now mirrors are made of cheaper material so technically vampires today could look into a mirror and see themselves
This was oddly specific
I don't think the conventions of vampire stories are really affected by any sort of real-world chemistry or physics. And many, maybe most, vampire stories nowadays have entirely abandoned any particular weakness of vampires to silver. That's been mapped instead onto werewolves in much of pop culture. The "mirror" thing and the "silver" thing have been decoupled. So even if pop culture does present a vampire as both harmed by silver and lacking a reflection, they aren't usually connected.
@@MegaZeta It's more of that silver is supposed to protect from/ward off evil, any evil, in Slavic lore, therefore it 'reveals' the vampire. Also vampires and werewolves were originally much the same. The other explanation for no reflection is usually vampires being dead, and therefore having no soul.
I was just about to comment this
Even FUNNER fact...Vampires arent real🤨😐😑🤣
The premise was good, the execution was a miss
Like soo far left I’d rather have a dark romance film then one I’ve already seen
@@bdaily9107 exactly
Calling him De Ville was a miss too. Dracula was pretty proud of his heritage in the original book, so naming himself Tepes, Basarab, or Szilagyi all would have made more sense and tipped fewer viewers off as to his true nature, and the ones who did recognize it are the ones who would be chomping at the bit for the dramatic irony. I read a book(different genre and he was actually a protagonist in that one) who disguised him by him using the name of his older brother Mircea and using Basarab as a surname. Unless you know that specific part of history, you don't realize exactly who you're dealing with until he reveals it(although he does stake some people earlier in the book, so that could tip people off). That's a much better way to handle it than picking out a random first name and the last name of DEVIL.
MISSandei
They introduced so much lore and then explained nothing! I think it would've been great as a tv series with better writers
As someone who had the evidently rare experience of watching this movie with zero prior knowledge or clue about what it was about (watched it on the plane to kill two hours and only found it through random scrolling) I can confirm the “Vampire twist” was indeed spoiled by the stake obviously placed in the title, causing the movie to be even more of a disappointment, because I was left wondering “Where are the vampires in this unexpected vampire movie? Because I don’t count ‘dark, can hardly see what’s happening’ jump scares as vampire specific scenes.” Almost an hour and a half later, I’m still watching for the sole purpose of proving to myself that I never saw the stake in the title, because there’s no way they’d try and pull a vampire twist with like twenty minutes remaining.... and they did, yes, they did.
Sins well deserved 👍🏻
I went into the movie basically blind to the vampire stuff. I did not pay attention to the title of the movie's design. I went into the movie hoping the family was apart of a cult that sacrificed people and ate them. A vampire twist wasn't so far of a stretch to figure out though. I still liked the movie though.
Most people didn't notice that
I mean... there's the stake, the "Invitation" title, it takes place in Whitby, the butler's name is Renfield and his "master" is named De Ville. It's pretty telegraphed.
(Whitby is where Dracula arrives in England in Bram Stoker's novel, Renfield is his servant and "Count de Ville" is the alias he uses while in England)
I just watched it today, I didn’t see the vampire giveaway 😅
Carfax Abbey! Undead giveaway!
@7:38 logically, if someone gets the shit scared out of them, their heart rate will be through the roof. High heart rate means, as a vampire, you can drain them a lot quicker. Also adrenaline is an anticoagulant, so you're guaranteed to get more blood out of them when they hemorrhage.
Should we find it disturbing that you've put so much thought into the intricacies of draining a person of thier blood? 😂
ok, mr. Vampire
@@erfal19 it's called logic, Mr lack of critical thinking skills
@@benjaminmayer6152 was literally less than 10 seconds of thought. I'll never understand what it's like to be a neurotypical
@@josephgermany7446 it was a joke
The first half of the movie felt like it was pulled directly from an adult romance novel. It was well done in that aspect! But it was SO JARRING to go from the romance to the horror the way it did.
And oh noooo hot rich guy wants to make me immortal and let me do whatever I want oh noooooo
What they seem to forget is that Dracula is Vlad the Impaler. A hardened warrior and bloodthirsty Warlord. So even without his vampire powers He'd run your pockets. The older void the stronger the vampire. There's no way a baby vampire is going toe to toe with any vampire that's older than her.
The amount of lamps in this movie is RIDICULOUS 🤣🤣🤣
they are rich. rich people always have random things in abundance 😌 trust be bro
This movie could have been a lot better.
You mean it could have been decent 😅
I’d they made it into a dark romance and lean towards to people who liked twilight this would have been great
I liked the white racism at the start 🤨
I always go into movies with an open mind and open heart, but CinemaSins has taught me to notice small, careless things that can break the suspension of disbelief. They've also taught me to wary of PG-13 horror movies released outside of the Autumn/Fall season.
This movie is a mashup of Get Out, Knives Out, and Ready or Not.
This movie would qualify to be called a mash-down. ;)
@@martinboyle9163 Perfect response. Had all the ambience of those films but doesn't measure up to them in the slightest.
Yeah
6:50 The sentence she said was correct. She and her parents were the objects of the sentence, so she correctly used the object pronoun 'me' instead of the subject pronoun 'I'
Yes you would not say “Just I” you would say “just me”
*ding!*
The trick is to remove all other people from the sentence, and whichever pronoun works on its own is the correct one.
@DrWh1teCat
You are correct in your correction. However, I do have to inform you that you turned right around and used "object" pronouns in the place of the proper "subject" pronouns in your post. "She and her parents" are the "subject" of the sentence your wrote.
Miranda Tate used me as an object
I worked on this movie, and I'm glad it's on CinemaSins :D
Great job on it. I loved this movie!
It actually looks like a fun one to watch in a theater.
Fun fact: the big dining scene was shot through 3 days. The food design was amazing, but imagine the smell on the third day...
Comment Section Sin Counter: 1
Working on this movie then proudly admitting you worked on this movie in a comment section criticising said movie.
@@Youre-so-right It was a job. I got paid.
Description on IMDB should also count as a few sins.
"A young woman is courted and swept off her feet, only to realize a gothic conspiracy is afoot." - Sigh that almost makes it sound like a YA movie :p
I appreciate that you mentioned how similar this was to Get Out and pointed out how it tried to include themes as racism and classism because to me, it felt like a white person tried to write Get Out with vampires and completely missed the point
bro i literally thought this after seeing it
The razor at 3:10 made me scream. This man is so funny
"There's a reason this story is not called Cinderella", the funniest exposition ever.
Thanks for saving me the effort to watch the whole thing :'))
He watched it so we don’t have to.
I can tell you didn't like the movie ha ha ha
To this day I still wish I didn't
Poor Alfred really is always cast as the help. This movie, Gotham, You, the man is perfect as a butler
He was sooo pissed at the lighting 🤣🤣🤣
The shaving noises killed me 😂.
Honestly this probably one of the funniest cinemasins videos I’ve seen in a while 😂
I watched this movie on a plane ride but it ended just as it was revealed that they were vampires. I got that far but would never really seek it out to see how it ended, so thanks for this.
Lmaoooooo “it was a dark and stormy clichè.” 😂😂😂😭
This has got to be the funniest sins video in recent time. Great job, CinemaSins!
Just read the book. _Dracula_ is actually a damn good read 👍✨
Comment section Sin Counter: 3
Telling people to read a book, NERD!!! 🤓
It truly is! It's a shame there are so many poor adaptations out there of it(and a shame so few versions reference Quincey Morris. The man saw a bat outside their window while they were planning and casually walked outside to shoot at it with a shotgun without saying a word, and he was one of the two people who actually killed Dracula)
I had no idea this was a vampire movie until it was revealed. I thought that would be a major sin
Really? Because I would sin it for the exact opposite. I thought it was given away in the synopsis so the "big reveal" really let me down :(
I didnt either until they showed the maids dying.
Same!!!
It was a silly movie, but enjoyable. In the way the Van Helsing movie was with Hugh Jackman lol
Still a better love story than Twi…hold up
The razor at 3:10 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
5:27 "I'd rather lick a hedgehog"🤣🤣I'm using that now
5:42 "f truffle", that was the best one!!!!
You're awesome! This was one of the best videos you did because it is everything I thought about this movie put into words!!! So much potential turned into old hat cliches!!! Thank you!! Made me laugh so much!!!!
6:48 - actually, it is "and me"
I had never heard of the film when I found it. I watched it and thought it was teasing demons or something. So when the dinner happened and the three brides speech I was a little confused. But then the vampires happened and I lost it. Because I had to rewatch it immediately with vampires in mind to understand. I still feel silly that I never got vampires immediately bc it was so obvious
I would be pissed if everyone I was working with suddenly increased my work load from just missing.
Actually enjoyed the movie, really wanted her to join the "family but oh well. Great review!
14:10 Plan B was that there was no plan B. There wasn't a plan A until they found out about Evie other than maybe try reminding Dracula gay marriage is legal and Oliver is the right age(also, as a side note, in the book there was textual evidence Dracula was interested in men too, specifically Jonathan Harker, and in many derivative works since Dracula and characters based on him have been bi)
@18:54 - the "Losersayswhat'", of contracts.
🤣
Walt had only one pointy ear until the wedding announcement, but keep changing sides during the movie... mistake or hint? 🤣🤣🤣
such a good video thanks for the laughter
Damnnn you're on fire lately! xD
I automatically like their videos before watching. I already know it’s going to be good
Comment Section Sin Counter: 2
Liking something before even knowing what it involves, You may say you know its going to be good (and usually cinema sins does hit that sarcastic sweetspot everyone loves) but you cant know anything until youve actually watched it with your own two eyes or unless you have some sort of freaky super power that allows you to correctly guess the outcome of a creators content before hand, in which case you have earned another sin for being a mutant who has a unfair advantage over us "normies"
@@Youre-so-right ok i agree with you on that you can't like a video without knowing whats in it but this is cinemasins they hit the "sarcastic sweetspot every time"
19:08 The Subzero comment lol😂😂😂😂😂😂
ive been waiting for this video since i saw this movie in the theater
Carfax, Renfield, Mina and Lucy. I'm not sure why there has to be suspense about the reveal.
Rick and Morty’s “loser” was great 😂
Lol I thought so too
Greetings from Newcastle!
That swear at the jump scare: superb.
Please do Train to Busan next
Delivery on "look at all these lamps" KILLED me right off the start. It has major meme vibes. Similar to "look at all these chickens" but somehow a very different, exasperated energy.
A 5 hour drive from London Heathrow to Whitby? Yeah, not in this lifetime!
Excellent Kill Bill reference 👍✨
This was on of my favorite movies of that year
Facts about the word/phrase “irony or ironic” …many people don’t really know the meaning😂
Awesome vid as always. Do you ever sin yourself for "pointing out cliches cliche"? :D lol
A dark and stormy night real Snoopy weather.
I was so ready for me to just watch this on TV or something and not go and watch it in theaters and stuff but now at the watch. Ing this I think i'm good thank you for saving me so much time and energy
Renfield was actually the servant of Count Dracula (I knew this from a lot of reading and not just watching the Renfield movie.) Being that this movie's plot revolves around vampires is such a huge step in the right direction that I watched this film 3 times. You're welcome, Sony. But don't ever mess with my Spider-Man ever again, or it's a strongly worded email.
Oh I thought this was The Invitation (2015) very decent thriller. I actually saw this at the cinema and completely forgot about it so says a lot.
Berkshire hunt! Jeremy knows his rhyming slang lol ;-j
It was a closer shave to choose a jog in the fog over a snog than someone shaving their goatee so as not to seem less trustworthy.
I actually think the movie was correct when they used "me" instead of "I".
They were. You wouldn't say "It was always just I." You would say "It was always just me."
the pomegranate scene made me laugh when i saw it. I was like wtf did the pomegranate do? lmao
Being a Vampire Diaries fan helped me point out a lot of plot holes but it was still very interesting.
17:55 there’s actually 11 lamps in the shot not ten 😂 still too many lamps tho 😂
Rowley Birkin QC! That was nice!
I realize the Warping Wineglass is probably just because they made a small cut,but sinning this also indicates you've never personally experienced the miracle of really professional servers and staff. Food does seem to appear and disappear by magic and you don't even question it.
Your servers make your food disappear? Seems like that would make it hard to eat.
3:12 Okay, that made me cackle.
Even a CW dig?! I love it
Kinda disappointed “Show me the carfax” wasn’t used.
I kinda liked this movie....has some elements in common with "Ready or Not" starring Samara Weaving (lol thought it was Margot Robbie).
2:51 Maybe she needed to hop onto another plane halfway through?
5:13 I literally thought she, and her friend were the protagonists in "Get Out" and that this was a sequel of how she got in the same mess again, until I saw this sin, googled "Get Out" and now I'm ashamed of myself. But now I'm left wondering if this isn't a sequel featuring that guys' daughter and friend having their own similar mishap.
15:32 Yeah, but then it wouldn't be a horror movie anymore, it'd be twilight.
18:20 That's some painfully obvious CGI tea. xD There's no rippling from her movements whatsoever.
Lanterns - The WB School of Set Lighting.
Whitby is a very nice place and Vampires are very misunderstood, many hurtful stereotypes; may I come in and explain?
“Get out” of my head I see you
They got the guy who played Alfred from Gotham in a movie about bats 🤣🤣🤣
My wife figured out the twist way before the reveal
Despite all the sins, the movie is actually a decent vampire movie compared to a lot of the other garbage vampire movies that have come out over the past 10-15 years. At least this one put more focus on the horror aspect instead of sexualized romance. As usual, one of the biggest problems with this movie was that its trailer spoiled far too much.
The horror was low and the sexual romance was upped. Yeah I saw the movie too.
And what were the other garbage vampire movies in the last 10-15 years? Because I guarantee you What We Do In The Shadows was, Let The Right One In(tv series too), and 30 Days Night was great. Near Dark was brilliant!
when i watched this the first time, i wondered why evie wasn’t on board with the arrangement. sure it was a forced marriage but it sounded like a great deal overall
21:30 Well, that was an unexpected reference.
Thank you for your service. I actually almost watched this movie
I love this 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I missed this movie - never heard of it... I guess THE INVITATION got lost in the mail...🤔
So dumb, but I dig it.
don't worry, you missed nothing
I saw this twice in cinemas, actually, I quite enjoyed it for what it was.
22:16 FINISH HIM! FATALITY!
You should do one on the velocipastor
Can you do Planes Fire and Rescue? That movie has loads of sins.
4:30 I saw this sin coming from a MILE away
Yoooo, you read this movie to FILTH. Good job sir!
Patiently waiting for you guys to sin M3gan. When you do, please reference Allison Williams in the choking scene to where she also was getting choked in Get Out.
Since "irony" is using a word in a manner differently than expected, I suppose it would only be ironic to kill a vampire with the animal bat, since killing anyone with bats would be assumed to be the wooden stick variety.
hm i thought irony is when an expression conveys a meaning that is opposite to their usual meaning. Vampires are usually seen as bats or friendly with bats or having power over bats but in this case they are dying to a bat.
I thought this was going to be about the 2015 film "The Invitation", which is great.
The thumbnail for this video didn’t tip you off??
@@danix454 it's a year or two since I saw the other one and there's a suggestion of some cult/ritual stuff in it. I guess I thought it couldn't have been from how one of them dresses.
Doctor Who's son also playa Alfred in Gotham, so, uhhh, I guess this IS about Bats
"So I've heard" LULW
The 3 Stooges were the earliest example of the power of 3s. D Jeremy was on top of his game with this one
I thought dude was going for an Elijah impersonation because that's all I was seeing. Movie just made me want to watch TVD or Originals.
Whle i can appreciate the MK reference for the last outtake... they missed a PERFECT "THIS IS SPARTA!!!" moment with it.
"Blue Juice" was actually quite a funny movie. Stupid but still a guilty pleasure ;-) So for poor Sean Pertwee (happy birthday, btw!) this one IS the lowest point.
And I was waiting to see the movie before I'd watch the EWW video. Superb!
I thought it was gonna be a demon movie, and when it revealed that it was actually vampires, I couldn’t take the rest of the movie seriously.
