The first Escape Room was kind of fun. Escape Room: Tournament of Champions veers hard into bonkers territory. It's got sins, y'all.
Next week: '80s sins and recent horror/thriller sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

Missed Sin: If Ben survived drowning in the beach room, what happened to Nathan? Did Nathan float down to whatever room Ben ended up in and MINOS was all like " Fuck, wrong guy "
Lmaoooo
Literally my thought
Yeah I was wondering why they never questioned the possibility of everyone else being alive with that logic
I asked the NYC subway authority if I could borrow one of their trains to use as an elaborate escape room game complete with dozens of death traps but they said no
Saidly no video prove xD
Yeah you have to get permission from the NYC MTA to use of their trains and stuff in movies. It's a bit crazy but hey
Because you're not rich or powerful.
I just think this movie fell into a common sequel trap. “Hey the first movie did pretty well, let’s just go ahead and make another one and take things to absolute ridiculous levels to the point where the audience can no longer buy into the concepts that made the first movie enjoyable for the sake of money.”
sounds like the matrix resurrection
*John Wick franchise has entered the chat*

First movie was dumb as hell as well
The movie’s main problem was that they made Minos too powerful. What kind of fictional antagonist plots out every possible decision that the complex human mind is going to make and somehow comes up with intelligent and lethal designs in time for the heroes to experience them?
Exactly. For me the movie is no fun when they make the villain way too powerful.
the extended cut makes way more sense
@@ashtonmcfarlane481 the one with claire in it?
Minos or Claire depending on which version you watched, but the room i really hated was the acid one . it was rigged for Rachel & Brianne to fail . I still don't think the theory /idea of them rolling under the taxi would have saved them from the rain, Minos or claire probably would have had some type of trap under the taxi to crush their bodies or hurt them in someway. I hate how the little shop/store is locked and can't be accessed for them to shelter from the rain. Like what is the point in having a dumb little shop there just to torture them some more??.
And i also thought at the time why didn't Zoe hold the taxi door open for Brianne & Rachel to get it ???? *smh* , It felt like everyone instantly became rookies playing an escape room for the first time ever. Even Rachel or Brianne could have reminded her to hold the door but nope nothing , They just watch Zoe jump in the taxi , and Zoe seems to forget that this game instantly blocks exit doors /escape holes etc . Seeing her try and break the strong glass with her feet was silly aswell , it was never going to break .
Imagine my surprise and confusion watching this video to find out the extended cut isn’t even extended it’s a completely new plot/ movie about halfway through! I had to go watch the actual version, I wasn’t even aware of the Amanda plot 😭 I liked the extended cut much better though
where did you find the original
where did you find the original cut
I wasn't even aware there were different versions of this movie so I was super confused when I started watching this video - what the hell?!
I was SOOO confused a few seconds into this video. Like who the heck is the therapist...and what scene was Amanda in!? lol. I feel like i saw the better version based on the recap i saw here.
Ditto, I'd never seen this version
You missed the fact that at the end of the first movie, the only reason Ben and Zoey survived is because they killed the game master, who was killing the last survivor. So how are there other survivors when they kill all there winners? And yes the movie brings up this plot hole in the elevator scene, but is ignored with a comment that doesn’t answer the question. So they knew about the plot hole, addressed the plot hole, and then ignored the plot hole hoping we wouldn’t notice. Well I noticed… I noticed.
In the extended version of the movie Claire says Zoey was the first person who truly beat them and people liked it and wanted an encore so they started letting people win so they could build their “tournament of champions”
EXACTLY.
this!
Zoey was the only person who actually won.
There's a scene where Claire tells her they let the other winners win on purpose.
Yeah I wish it was explained more how the other people survived their games aswell . Ben only survived because Zoe saved him, and Zoe survived because she used the oxygen mask. It's like they wanted to keep us guessing or keep it a mystery. Were the other surviviors just lucky?, as there always has to be 1 surivivor and it seems all of them must have been the 1 survivor in their own game.
What upsets me most about this is that I watched the extended version with a completely different ending, so now I need to watch this movie AGAIN.thanks a ton CS
I loved it. The first 15 minutes are totally different too. I was shocked . Usually it is like an extra sentence here and there

@@lil.beanie0395 red box blue ray. I watched it at my moms and thought I had a stroke. The first 15 min I was confused af
Same I thought that was the main movie so the first 15 mins of this video I was like wtf is going on
About 9 minutes into this video, one of the sins is that Zoey says that her group was all lone survivors, but ‘zoey and Ben aren’t lone survivors and nobody questions that’. She was simply referring to the fact that she was the only survivor from her plane crash, and Ben was the only survivor from his car crash
Am glad I’m not the only one who noticed this. Everyone in their group was a sole survivor/tragedy
They used the phrase "sole survivor", but it's the same thing. Not sure why Jeremy sinned this. It was actually accurate, unless he meant the "lone survivors" if their game? That makes even less sense to me, when taking the context of the conversation into account.
@@UnboxingAlyss Cinema Sins is extremely hit or miss with this stuff. There's a lot of shit that flies right over his head.
Cinema Sins doesn't review accurately. The dude is ridiculous which is the point.
One thing that bugged me about this movie is if Ben survived the quicksand, I feel like Nathan should have also survived

A few missed sins:
On the train, Rachel pulls the emergency brake but the handle comes off. A minute or two later, we see the same handle somehow reattached to the emergency brake.
On the beach, why not just untie the rope attaching the anchor to the mechanism under the sand?
The entire “angle holding a key” clue in the city room is just f*cking stupid
Brianna figured out that the fridge is their escape from the beach because the power cord is missing, which seems very unlikely
Zoey looks into the beach shack and somehow immediately comes to the conclusion that the fridge is their escape.
One sin should be removed for the escape taxi in the city having drop down barriers on the bottom to prevent the players from hiding underneath it
(Not necessarily a sin but) everyone hates on Nate for not listening to everyone to stop guessing which tiles were correct during the bank scene, but if he hadn’t they probably wouldn’t have escaped the room. The papers wouldn’t have burnt and Rachel wouldn’t have been led to the conclusion that the papers weren’t the answer.
Ben’s immediate conclusion to seeing a beach with tons of sand is landmines, and NOT F*CKING QUICKSAND.
Nate diving in to save Rachel is completely pointless, seeing as he dies anyway and they would’ve had the same amount of people if he hadn’t tried to save her.
How tf did Minos put Tesla coils in the thin ass roof of a subway car? Those would be way too big to fit in there!
Also, nobody noticed the Minos corporation making big changes to one of the train cars? Nobody noticed them installing whole Tesla coils? Or putting subway tokens inside the handles? Or making a f*cking hole in the floor of it?
The counters become rigged to the lasers in the bank when the deposit boxes are opened. So what would’ve happened if everyone went over the counters and they couldn’t go back over them after the boxes were opened?
(There is definitely more, if I find more I’ll share them here)

A star walks into a black hole but doesn't seen phased. The black hole then turns to the star and says, "I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation."
I’m angry that this is funny
I'm actually surprised at how well executed that was.
I was super confused in the beginning when Jeremy hinted Amanda would be back since I'd already seen the movie. It wasn't until later, when he mentioned there are two versions, that I realized I'd unknowingly watched the extended cut.
I saw the extended version 1st where it was the game makers daughter who made the traps. Didn't even know this version of the movie existed till now. Let's just say the extended version was a better ending that tied things up. This version is a clear cash grab at a 3rd movie with this ending
I didn’t even know they had released a sequel. The first one was fine and I had fun with with it, but it definitely doesn’t need a sequel it was just fine as a stand alone
they're gonna milk it like SAW. Especially after the revelation in this film.
If the first one was fine and you had fun with it, why wouldn't they make a sequel?
Lol did you just ignore the ending of the first one then? I mean they clearly left it open for a sequel
Honestly this one ruins the original. Having Amanda be alive is utter bull. It’d be better to just ignore the first one’s ending and don’t watch this and have a better time.
@@thecunninlynguist oh boy
What I found _really_ weird about this film was that it wasn't the sequel hook the end of the first one showed. It looks like the sequel hook at the end of the first one is for the _third_ film, assuming a third one is made. Bizarre.
Fingers crossed there isn't a third one.
What? Lol
@@panicatthegasstation If they adapt the other ending (aka the better one) it could acc be a decent movie, like the first one
@@Samsaknight I just can't get past the basic premise and the unbelievable plot for some reason. It's almost insulting.
@@panicatthegasstation For which cut?
The acid rain scene is so confusing to me. If the exit is inside the Taxi the bottom of the taxi should be solid, but nobody notices that even though they enter the scene from a manhole just beside the taxi. Also how can you bang on the taxi glass covered in metal-melting acid without any problem?
You're not at an eye level at the manhole for very long. And you wouldn't see it stood up. Not to mention the stress levels... So that's hardly a fair sin.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DID 2 DIFFERENT ENDINGS! One with Amanda still being Alive and One with Claire being the Person who created The Rooms.
To add another sin: Rachel says she can't feel physical pain. Doesn't this mean she could have carried the team in the earlier puzzles, especially the first one?
she may not be able to feel the pain, but the damage would be real, which i would understand not wanting to risk making yourself crippled in that situation
Being electrocuted is more than just physical pain. Not only that, her damaging her body isn't no big deal just because she can't feel what's happening.
Rachel is actually in bigger danger than anyone else, because she doesn't know when she's in trouble, if none of her other senses tell her
@@fuzzyapple ikr
Uh no? She'd still be injured or dead if she got electrocuted or cut by a laser.
Dear CinemaSins, would you ever do a part 2 for the "extended cut"/Puzzle Master's daughter version of this movie? I had no idea the theatrical version was so different.
at 20:40 the rooms are placed correctly cuz if you remember the subway had an elevator that led down to the bank, then the bank was pretty much next to the beach. The NYC room had to be above the beach because Zoey and Rachel climb a ladder to get up. And then Zoey falls down to the bedroom room which is why it was above.
I’m glad u guys decided to do the original cut cuz I couldn’t find it on yt, since streaming services show a whole completely diff story
Been waiting for this movie to get sinned, I love the escape room series but love the cinemasins escape room series even more
The one sin I expected to see and didn’t is that by making it so that the characters we don’t “see” die aren’t actually dead they ruin the idea behind the escape rooms in the first place. That and why there are so many survivors if they all get strangled at the end like the game master was going to do Ben.
You know that last Alien movie where some parts were explained in an exclusive web short that you had to watch prior to seeing the movie? It seems like this movie should have had something like that.
The escape room tournament of champions that I watched had a completely different ending I thought I was going crazy. I was like how do I not remember Amanda coming back???? I prefer this ending and wish I had seen this one instead.
I'm SO confused. I didn't see this version (I saw the gamemaster's daughter version) so now I have to go back and find this cut of the movie and watch the end of it AGAIN... Ugh!
Me and you both I’m so lost right now
I too saw the game master version. What’s up with the version discussed here? Wasn’t orphan-in-vacuum-room not bad enough?
@@billborrowed3939 This was the version released in (US) theaters, so it is the version most Americans know. I'm assuming this is why Jeremy chose it. I saw the alternate because I bought the blu-ray, but most people haven't.
both versions are available on amazon streaming
@@UnboxingAlyss it’s possible this version was chosen because it’s supposedly the true story that they wanted to follow so they could keep milking the franchise. The director or whoever wanted his version to be the story which made the series end though it made a lot more sense in that way. I read it online when the vid came out idk if it’s true or not but that’s maybe why Jeremy chose this version, because it’s what will be following the storyline
6:18 the subway car represented here is the R68A, which does have cabs at both ends. However only one of those cabs is the full width of the car, which they should both of them to be. In reality, the other cab is just a corner cab with just enough space for the Train Operator or Conductor. They got many things right with this whole subway situation, but there a few things that stand out to me (besides the cab thing) that I can't ignore. One, the tunnels. They did very well with them, and they look very realistic, but are far too bright. The signal that they had was a simple 2 aspect green-red signal, when in reality, it should have been two 3 aspect green-orange-red signals, one on top of the other. Two, the cars' signage. The only end-of-car signs that exist are on the No. 1 end of the A cars (in this case,, the trailing end of the car that the characters are in)
A final thing, there would also be something called a "tripcock" which would trip the car's brakes as a safety precaution to keep trains safely spaced, so the emergency brakes would have realistically been tripped soon after they disconnected from the other 7 cars of the train.
Love it when you do movies I wasn’t going to watch! I only know what happened in the first ER from the video here.

I almost re-watched this last night to see if it was as bad as I remember. I really liked the first movie, this one straight pissed me off. I remember watching it thinking holy shit I can't wait until CinemaSins rips this one
You do know they "sin" every movie ever as a joke, right? Everything that Jeremy says in these is just pure humour.
@@AL3X1KUS why yes I am aware. what leads you to believe I did not know this?
I've been waiting for this. Please tear that cheating company apart.
As someone who has never seen the extended cut, does the difference in story explain the illogical design of the puzzles? My main complaint was the suspension of disbelief is ruined having the rooms practically set up to fail yet having the characters solve them when there would be no logical reason for them to get to those conclusions to solve the puzzles.
I think with that issue, the extended cut makes way more sense because it explains why
Unless I missed something I wouldn't say a huge amount. Instead of Amanda being part of Minos it sets up a game maker and his daughter. The beginning replace the part with the therapist with a backstory about the game maker and his daughter with his wife dying in a puzzle room in their house. Current day has them try to fly but Zoe freaks out before they get on the plane and leads to them driving. The movie played out the same for all of the game segments I believe then once Zoe gets out of the acid room there is a different ending. She is in the game maker's house and helps the game maker's daughter escape a room that she has been locked in since she was little. You find out some more about their back story. It also does explain the why behind every room, but doesn't really explain how they managed to luck out of every room vs having actual clues.
I felt it still left many questions to be answered.
Yeah the extended cut completely explains it all better and makes way more sense too
@@3xavior17 Oh yeah, I forgot I had watched a woman trying to escape a sauna scene instead of that therapy session here 😅
I’ve been waiting eagerly for this one since they predicted it.
At this point, I prefer this commentary over the movies rather than just the plain movies
While I appreciate a film that is SO clever you can't see things coming, this film also would require the characters to be smarter than Einstein to win, and they don't even struggle
The people that made this movie have definitely never played an escape game.
None of the clues match what you need to do.
It's all about random guesses and just being right
To be fair, this is what you have to expect if your operation runs on forcing people with severe trauma and just a boatload of other mental-health issues after surviving a deathgame, to design another deathgame.
@@Shuizid that's a fair point
For the train conductor door, some trains do have two. The trains in my city have two conductor cars on each end of the train and at the end of the line they go to the other car so they don't have trade the cars every 1 and half.
The moon exit was to get back at Zoey for finding a loophole in the last movie. They knew she’d try to use the “another way out” logic again.
I LOVE this guy. 13:54 WHY is this dialogue = me during SO much movie dialogue. This is one of my favorite channels because he always points out everything (and more) that I was thinking while watching! Love how he never holds back his analytical side and just SAYS IT LIKE IT IS. 👌 Thank you so much for every video you make!
The background that a high profile social media personality is they lost that many followers over a scar and didn't become a instant viral superstar because of the secondary backlash over abandoning her over being shallow, thus likely gaining her millions of more virtue signaling followers, means the writers don't understand a single thing about prediction of social behaviors and how they can be manipulated or subverted WHICH IS THE ENTIRE FUNCTION OF ESCAPE ROOMS!
Minos might be the most sinned person in sin history. The amount of “but how” this movie franchise glosses over is crazy
When I first saw the movie title I was like "Is this some kind of reality game show?"
I’ve only seen the unrated extended cut, so I was quite surprised to see the huge difference to the storyline here. Guess I have to watch the theatrical version now. Haha
After watching the first movie i was in complete denial that they'd make a second film.
"my dad found a silver dollar with one of those once, it was worth a dollar"
Really?, a silver dollar that was actually worth a dollar?, 😱 wow my head is about to explode... 😑 jesus christ
A silver dollar is actually a collectible that can be traded for a tidy sum of money (10s to 100s of actual dollars), so the quote does make sense.
I know lol the dialogue in this movie 🤦🏽♀️
I really appreciate Jeremy. He saves a lot of people the torment of sitting through shitty movies. I come to him and Lee, CinemaWins, to decide if a movie is worth watching.
You should do a Sin episode with the extended version as well, cause there were a few scenes in that that were painful to watch
when zoey said amanda sacrificed herself for them she didn't know amanda was still alive so technically you need to give yourself a sin, like at that moment she didn't know it took her a few months to know that.
5:49 - Jeremy reveals he is not a New Yorker. Those pole dancing subway ads are pretty on point, because that is exactly what street performers do with them.
I almost had my head kicked by one of those subway dancers. That ad, while not the actual ad, looks enough like the real ad to give me flashbacks.
Am I alone in feeling like the past few years have been an Escape Room movie?
15:50 this flashback was from the DREAM that Ben had, and so theres no way she could be remembering it, and I cant find anyone else on the entire internet that has noticed it. Huge plot hole

Wtf, I didn’t know there’s two different versions of this movie, I watched the extended cut thinking it would have more scenes. Not an entirely different outcome!
All the cars in my city have conductor booths on both ends, so any car can drive going either way down the track.
The fact he counted a sin because a random smartphone didn't capitalize a letter is the exact reason I'm going to binge every @CinemaSins video this week

I'm curious to see which ending they'll use for a 3rd movie (if they make one) since the plan scene isn't in the extended version.
probably the dvd one since people hated the Amanda version
@@danieldang5366 I’ve read they will go based of their theatrical version for the storyline. While the extended cut was possibly more of what the director wanted to do he wasn’t really allowed to and had to do the version with Amanda. So that’ll most likely be the one that carries on into the 3rd movie
my favorite line is this, "Everyone in this cast is fighting hard for that 'Captain Obvious' award." lol

I bought the extended version like last year(2023) and watched it... now watching this video that was dropped 2 years ago and seeing that there are 2 different versions is INSANE
I just saw the extended cut, didn't even know there was an alternate ending until just now and was super confused. I just want to say, even though the movie was kinda meh, at least the ending I saw made some sense. This one was completely absurd. Made no sense and is just plain ridiculous.
Sin 52 is false.
Zoey was the only one to survive a plane crash, the lone survivor.
Ben is the only one that survived a car crash making him a lone survivor.
The group from their game is everyone who lived from an accident where everyone else died making them lone survivors.
Still a really good movie, and you're right Zoey was extremely lucky this wasn't squid game especially in the bank
I worked on septa PA transit subway cars. They do have conductor front and back since they are interchangeable. Basicly drive forward get to the end switch then go backwards. Each one exactly the same and they just mismatch them for routes
after finding out that there was an extended cut i watched it. IT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. i think the extended cut is so much better than this one and the rooms make more sense. i cant believe they didn’t just make the extended cut the one that was put out in theaters. it would have done better imo
From what I read somewhere when this vid came out the extended cut was how the director (I think?) wanted the movie to go but whoever runs it wanted to milk more money off the franchise so they made it into something they could continue, even if it risks making a poorly written story.
I have only seen the extended cut, how do the rooms make more sense in the extended than this cut if the rooms are the same and the only difference is the start of the movie, where ben goes and his final room and the ending?
@@berneventer5444 Because the whole reasoning for the puzzles are different.

Hahaha, when “you said 🍖 weird.” @3:00
Maybe I'm jaded and cynical, but I think the answer is "yes", desperate people would absolutely play bit parts in a convoluted game like this for money and the assurance of their own survival. Is something like this movie plausible? Probably not, but my own experiences with megalithic tech/data companies have definitely left me more than a little wary of just how elaborately complex "the machine" has become.

I actually really enjoyed this movie when I watched the alternate version by accident. The theatrical version (this version) was not good...
They showed the awnings flinging open between bursts of rain. They had one new awning, not previously hit by acid, per countdown until they ran out and no more opened up.
I got to wonder: Do you think Original Films understands the irony in their name when given many of the films under their production, or are they honestly oblivious to it?
I think death by acid rain is pretty sick.
I like how the group of sole survivors is the one group that has multiple survivors. I get that's kind of the joke, but it's a fun touch and CinemaSins doesn't comment on it.
