In this video, I will be reviewing and comparing the Chanel classic flap in the medium/large size with the Chanel reissue 2.55 in the 225 size as well as comparing the standard types of leather these bags come in: caviar, lambskin, and aged/distressed calfskin.

I love using my black 225 reissue with gold hardware. It’s beautiful and versatile, and I travel a lot with it because I can stick it in my backpack and not worry about it getting squished or scratched.
Yes I love taking my reissues when traveling too because they’re so easy to pack down flat and they open back up in seconds!
The smaller reissue are so pretty, yours in small & even the mini size. Aged calfskin leather also looks lowkey for everyday use. It’s on my wishlist🙌🏻 i own vintage small classic double flaps, bought it with a great price and great condition too. Have to say i prefer the vintage lambskin over new ones
Haha I might be the only one who doesn’t like the vintage bags 🤭 I think the hardware is too gold. But yes to the reissue! I have 4 mini reissues now and I love them all!
@@CAROLCHANNELINGCHIC the yellow gold vintage hardware can be too much, i personally don’t mind. The bag is serial #3 (she’s around 30 years old😭) and it’s holding up great, it might be true that they gilded it up in 24k gold. Anyway I appreciate your reply given this is a 2 yo video! The most informative video covering the Chanel flaps and reissues! I own both but I never knew all the details until I saw this video! I personally like both styles equally for different reasons and I prefer the caviar leather for its durability over the lambskin. I do have to agree the lambskin leather is more rich in color! 😊

This is a very expensive idea hahaha - but I would love to one day have a small classic flap for special occasions/dressier days, and a '226' reissue for the low-key everyday. For the lower quality and increasing prices, I wonder if that would ever be something I would want to do, even if I could...? I am unsure on how I feel about buying secondhand handbags sometimes, for germy reasons, but this may end up being the only feasible option!
Yeah I totally agree with the increasing prices. I was lucky enough to get both back when it was $4900 each and even that was quite a lot already. And I know exactly what you mean about buying preloved...I feel the same way. Sometimes I can’t help but think of how much money I could save if I went that route but I would never have the peace of mind if I did that 🙈

You are so right, I can’t stand how narrow range of vocabulary some youtubers have. No content and so many unnecesarry words as „ like” all the time, it is really painfull to watch sometimes, it’s refreshing to see the difference finally.
I went vintage/lambskin with the black classic flap and caviar jumbo with the beige. Both preloved.
I want to add a red mini in either leather and complete my collection.

Great video 👍. Do you find the ruthenium hardware is too casual and tacky? Harder to transition from day to night? I currently own the classic in gold hardware and I’m can't decide whether to go with ruthenium or gold hardware for the reissue in 225. Would love to hear your opinions.
It is a bit more casual but I don’t think it’s tacky. I use my reissue more during the day time and my classic flap during the night a majority of the time, but I don’t limit them to either day or night. Assuming you’re thinking of having both bags in the same color of leather, I think that having both in gold hardware may be a bit redundant. If I had both in gold hardware, I think one of the bags would ultimately be neglected (probably the classic flap).
Hi Carol. Thanks for this informative video. I have been saving up and researching Chanel bags for my first and possibly last (😢) Chanel handbag so I want to be careful before making my purchase. I am thinking about a classic flap (medium size, caviar, black) with the gold hardware but have heard in some reviews that the gold plating wears off over time and have seen some handbags with this issue and did not like the look of it (I would want a bag of this price to hold up well and while I would take good care of it, I would also want to make sure I am still getting a good use out of it). While I do prefer gold, this is potentially making me consider the silver hardware so that I can at least avoid having a bag with rubbed off gold hardware. Have you experienced this with your bag and could you share your thoughts regarding this? Thanks! Xoxo
I have not experienced the gold rubbing off on mine but I have heard that this is a possibility. I’m not worried about it though because I can always have it repaired. If you purchase yours now from the boutique, there’s also a 5 year warranty on the bag. I think if the gold hardware is what you truly want, you shouldn’t settle for the silver because you won’t be completely happy with it. That’s why I bought the lambskin one for myself over the caviar one even though it’s not as durable - I did initially have the caviar but kept thinking about the lambskin one so I ended up selling the caviar one after owning it for maybe a year or two to get the lambskin one which I have now owned for 6+ years.

It depends what your concern is regarding the color. If you’re worried about color transfer, it’s not necessarily going to be safer getting it in caviar vs lambskin because color transfer can happen on any type of leather. However from what I’ve seen, the beige clair color appears different on lambskin compared to caviar so it also depends which shade you prefer.

The official name for the bag is 2.55 according to Chanel. If you are referring to the size, it’s the 225 size not 226. It’s the size that’s equal in price with the medium classic flap.

I think so. It holds up well and looks great over time. I’m a huge fan of the leather on the reissue because it gives the bag this effortless quality.

CAROL CHAN more than likely black w/ghw. Going to go on the preloved market so that I can a) save money and b) get a single flap, which they stopped making some time ago.
Oh yes and it’ll be lighter too 😄 The double flap jumbo is quite heavy in my opinion.

Thanks so much for the video, it was really helpful since I’m looking to purchase my first Chanel bag! Do you know if they offer both leathers in store (lambskin and caviar) for the classic flap? Or is it just whatever one is in season? As online it only states one type of leather.
It depends on the color you’re looking for. The classic black one should be available in both leathers as well as both silver and gold hardware (subject to availability though). If you’re looking for a specific color then it depends on what material it was made in for the seasonal collection.

The reissue chain is definitely heavier but it’s not too bad. I think it balances out at the end because the aged calfskin feels a bit lighter than the lambskin.

thank you for the review❤️does the chanel classic flap in black and gold hardware have better resell value, or does a seasonal color/hardware combo classic flap have better resell value❓ i'm worried that everyone would want a black with gold hardware classic flap so they rather go to the boutique to get one new, and also since everyone want this color and hardware combo, the resell market is oversaturated. would a classic flap in non-black neutral color (light grey,. charcoal, beige, navy, etc.) still have better resell value than the reissue black with gold hardware❓
Even though a black classic flap is probably the most common, it has the best resale value of everything you mentioned. The beige one does very well too and I would say the other neutral colors sit right under beige in terms of resale value. The more bold and colorful the bag is, the worse the resale value is but there are some highly sought after colors that can rival the black one or even go for higher than the retail price if it’s in like new or brand new condition. Resale value for a black reissue sits somewhere between that of colorful and neutral classic flaps. It’s quite unfortunate that reissues don’t really do well on the second hand market.

I would suggest the mini reissue and the medium classic flap (or check out the small classic flap to see if that’s a better size for you than the medium). The mini reissue still gives you all the functionality of the 225 sized reissue while the mini rectangular is quite different from the medium classic flaps.
I am surprised to hear you say you lost money when you sold the caviar bag because everyone says you profit from these bags I am going to buy my first Chanel bag this year and like the lambskin
If you hang on to the bag past multiple price increases then maybe you might. But after accounting for selling costs and adjusting for inflation I’m not sure even that is true. I sold mine within a year of buying it and it was still retailing for the same price as when I bought it. It’s almost never going to be the case that a used bag is going to be more valuable than a brand new one.
CAROL CHAN hhhm i disagree. You had yours for less than a year before selling it. If you had it for 3+ years, you could have gotten all your money back
@@froyokid But keeping a bag for another 3 years and selling it at the price point you bought it is not profitable at all. The inflation we'll have in 3 years will wipe out any small gains. Plus, if the bag is not in excellent condition, forget about being able to sell it at the price you bought it for.

I would never buy a reissue. I’m paying thousands of dollars and nobody will know that’s a Chanel?? Not everyone is into fashion so they can think it’s a knock off

I’ve heard people call it many different variations but I think the most common definitely is “reissue”. It’s the name that seems to be the most recognizable too. Luxury lovers do seem to come up with some unique names for stuff - like the 225, 226 etc sizes are not necessarily the standard terms for the sizes either 😄
CAROL CHAN You can call Diana etc your bag anyway. The exact name of the bag is 2.55 ✌️ It represents February 1955 😆 and there’s no 2.66 in sizes they called S M L. I don’t know it’s kinda annoying it sounds like fake ✌️
