A very good day to you *Improvement Pillers!* Glad to be here.
Know Lord Varys, Cersei, Tyrion and Lord Baelish from *Game of Thrones?* Whether they use it for good or bad, I assure you, they understand the laws of power. Same goes for the strategic politician Frank Underwood from *House of Cards,* who I'd hate in real life. Good thing it's a TV show. I trust we're all well-intentioned and mature individuals, because part of self-improvement is helping others improve.
    *Table of Contents*
1:22 *Law 4: Always Say Less Than Necessary*
Ever had a joke of yours taken out of context? I have and at work no less. It's not fun.
Sometimes we're responsible for not only what we say, but for how people interpret/perceive it. Unfair, imo.
In groups of friends and family this is usually not a problem, but it can be in formal work-related environments.
People will like you a lot more, when you try to avoid sensitive topics including the points below:
    *How NOT to Communicate*
    - Gossip & Judge
    - Be Negative & Complain
    - Make Excuses & Exaggerate
    - State Opinion as Fact
    - Interrupt Constantly
I'm sure you see how saying less as in not gossiping, not being judgemental etc. will make you more charismatic.
Truth is, we should listen more... and really listen, since we have only one mouth, but two ears - as a philosopher pointed out.
3:48 *Law 9: Win Through Your Actions - Not Through Argument*
In my experience you get more respect, when you earn it through hard work, by taking action. There's a lot of people who talk, talk, talk about their ambitions, but never seem to get anything done. Hard work and results can't be argued against and some things are better left unsaid. For example: instead of telling family members they needed to lose weight, I led the way, showed them how to do it and supported them all the way from meal preparation to doing fun exercises. One is hurtful, the other is helpful.
4:12 *Law 13: Asking for Help Appeal to People's Self Interest*
"Would you please subscribe to my channel?" Why would you (especially, when I ask that way)? Instead I'm transparent and honest as to what you will find on my channel, that you may or may not find helpful. This is about serving others and benevolently offering value, no less for free on UA-cam. "Valar dohaeris. All men must serve." (little GoT reference) If it's not self-less, it's win-win. Nothing wrong with that. I can't resist the GoT comparisons. Lord Tyrion, my favorite character on the show, survived all this time, because he's a master at knowing what people want and giving it to them. He's saved himself and others from death quite a few times with this law. Instead of asking "What do I want?" you ask "What do people want?"
4:55 *Law 16: Use Absence to Increase Respect and Honor*
Have you ever met someone who didn't respect your personal space, perhaps was a bit pushy and never let you alone. It's too much, isn't it? Well, this is understanding that people need a break from you every now and again. If someone sees you every day it's not special. You're taken for granted. Also, you have nothing new to talk about so conversations aren't all that interesting anymore. If you retreated a little bit, granted others their alone time and went about your business, they have time to look forward to seeing you again. In a way they have time to think about you and miss you. Much preferable to annoying them.
5:27 *Law 18: Isolation is Dangerous*
I know I have felt like shutting myself off from the world at some points in my life and that's perfectly okay. The problem becomes, when we grow comfortable all by ourselves inside our rooms and don't care to see daylight anymore. We might even push friends and family away, because we're depressed and think that's the best way to deal with it. It's easy to become sheltered and lose touch with what's going on in the world. Time doesn't stop for us and everything changes. If we don't change along with it (positively) we're going backwards. If you feel isolated right now, reach out to someone you know. Make the first step. We all want to have friends to hang out with.
5:57 *Law 23: Concentrate Your Forces*
Ever focused on too many things at once? What happened? Now, your work ethic might be much better than mine. I'm always trying to improve. That's what the Improvement Pill is about. However, I do get much more done and in less time, if I concentrate on a single objective/task. There's that saying, if you chase two rabbits, you'll catch none. That's kind of it. Matter of fact it's something I try to apply on youtube. I have a good 20-something drafts ready for potentially viral videos, but if I don't pick one and commit to finishing it, before I touch another one I'm moving ahead very slowly. Like trying to push all dominos with a bit of force, instead of pushing the first/next and most important one with full force, which creates a chain reaction.
    6:29 *Law 25: Recreate Yourself*
7:09 *Law 29: Plan all the Way to the End*
7:48 *Law 34: Be Royal in Your Own Fashion - Act Like a King*
8:24 *Law 41: Avoid Stepping into a Great Man’s Shoes*
    9:13 *Law 48: Assume Formlessness*
    *Common Misconceptions*
    - The laws are not rules. They're general principles/paths.
    - They're situational, not instructional.
    - Most of them have a reversal, where applying/ignoring the law can backfire.
    - As with chess moves, it's on you (the player) to know when and how to act.
If you'd like to see the rest of the laws, please feel free to visit my channel.
    Thank you very much.

The only law of power that actually changed my life and this is no bullshit, is to defend you respect with your life.
Because once it slips from your hands in front of everyone, everyone will find find you "weak" and make attacks on you.
Remember the kid who abused and made fun of you ? You should have fought back by words or hands for your honor.
That other people would know the consequences of making fun of you.
This is no fucking bullshit. If anyone wants to succeed in life, He has to tell himself in his life that he isnt scared of anyone.
This is particularly for all those who are bullied or are left back among friends.
But this is my past and in the present they cant even think of hurting me...

I feel like Robert Greene's book are those books that you don't read through, at once, to end. You take it one law at a time and try to practice it until you are a bit used to it then you move on to the next law. I also think that books like that of Robert Greene's are designed to be read more than twice. They should be like a code with which you follow in navigating your life

I agree with most of this, except for part of the "powerful silence" concept. It made sense not to badmouth authority in ancient societies, but today, mainly in American culture, you should not feel afraid to voice your opinion since you have freedom of speech. Granted, making threats of physical violence, or committing acts of violence are not protected by our First Amendment, rightfully so, but forcing others who have different opinions to be silent is a terrible thing to do.

Anyone who knows basic psychology is aware , most of the laws are classic traits of a narcissist/psychopath. If you weren't born one, the book is a excellent training manual on how to behave as one. Even though you will die alone, in the meantime, you will be surrounded by the best friends money can by. Narcissists love this book. It only approves of and encourges what they already do.

    • @migzzz3215
      @migzzz3215 2 роки тому

Pls don’t hate me for this but I think you viewed all this the wrong way. If you think these are only the actions and can only be done by narcissist and psychopaths, then you are a fool than you think you are. You use the laws here wisely and to adapt/prepare yourself in any kinds of situations of if ever you are going to enter into a new environment. You don’t use this just so you can exert or abuse/establish your power so that people will respect of fear you or maybe even seeking attention. These are some things or mindsets of narcissist and psychopath. You don’t use it for offense all the time. Sometimes it can be use for defense mechanism. If you know how to use it wisely, then you won’t end up being a narcissist or psychopath. You just need to put all of these laws into heart and use them if necessary. That’s all. Fyi, my opinion. 😊
