The worst scam was before LOD was released, the accept trade button wasn’t disabled for a time after the other party added or removed an item. So, a millisecond before you hit accept trade people could just remove their item and you would give them your item for free.
When i was a kid, i fell for a fake website, if you clicked the link on website, it made you drop everything in game, it also freezes your character so u cant pick anything up, and person in game gets all your stuff, i also think it also kicked you outta game completely
Me and my little brother use to play sharing a computer so while one was playing the other would watch. My little brother got invited to a clan was told to sign up on a website and the exact same thing happened to him. I was so grateful it wasn't me lol. It's definitely a bit more of a sophisticated scam.
Bro I'll never forget falling for this years ago.. Was fairly new to D2 and had just found a Vamp Gaze. Traded it straight up for a Shaco.. except it wasn't a Shaco. I was devastated at the time lmao.
damn this trick is as old as diablo 2 itself, thats why u always have to check for the items u want to trade and ofc the stats, some ppl will give u bad rolled items when u dont double check
it works. back in the day I had a lot of dopamine pumping. once that check mark turned green, I'd get that lil adrenaline spike and boom. I get scammed.
the "LOL" is to all the people that dont check their trade window before hitting accept. it really is not a scam, because the system is scam proof: "is everything perfectly fine? yes? then hit "accept" trade!" and if you cant concentrate and check that all items are what you think they are, you are missing on some most basic life skills honestly.
the sad part is you know whoever is trying to pull this scam is 30+ years old and learned it on original d2 lmao
I did this a couple times like 20 years ago lol

This. Like the first scam ever scammed.
Nah, the first one similar to this is way back in vanilla D2 with Rattlecage replaced by a gothic plate with amethyst
Thats the first and one of the last that got me xd
I was still young then 😆
