- We finally finish off Railway Roundabout in 1959 with some colour footage of Western Region 45XX Prairie Tanks in sunny Devon, Including some shots of the camping coaches that were featured in the program from 1958.
Footage owned by their respective owners.
The fireman with swept back hair is possibly former Kingsbridge fireman Colin Ellis, who spent most of his career as a driver at Westbury.
Excellent archive, i use to work with a driver called Colin Ellis who was a fireman on the Branch.
Loved it, worked in the vicinity as a HGV driver in the 1990s and frequently crossed the old railway line. You should try delivering along the old route in the holiday season. Nightmare!
fantastic video of the old line. Ive never seen such good film of my favourite line.
Love Railway roundabout. In 1959 steam locos were still being built.
The branch line to Kingsbridge should have remained open with short diesel trains.
That is a classic with classic footage of my favourite steam locos doing what they do best! Subbed!
Seems hard to believe now that these were common sights and sounds.
What a crying shame the preservationists were unable to get this in time.
Well I did recently upload Railway Roundabout 1958
Not that I'm complaining, but how did this come to be made in colour?
