  • Now for a S.L.S special from Birmingham New Street to Harbourne along the now closed Harbourne branch.
The line was independently owned, but was operated from the start by the LNWR, who took 50% of the gross receipts from both passenger and freight traffic. It was a single line throughout, worked by the "one engine in steam" system, with six trains each way on weekdays.
Passenger services ceased in 1934 but remained open for freight and finally closed in 1963.
Footage owned by their respective owners

Oh dear! So many comments about a spelling error. How about enjoying the film? That is a joy to watch.

The harborne branch is no longer here because it’s now used as a pedestrian walkway

For what it's worth, the bridge shown at 0:55 is Rotton Park Road, as the train travels parallel with Gillott Road en route to Harborne. I believe the next station was on Station Avenue, then Hagley Road.

Adults and children all over the place - no one worried and I doubt if anyone got hurt!

sadly the station house at Longbridge has now been torn down a few years go, and it wasn't necessary imo.

The narration is somewhat incorrect. The passing point on the Halesowen Railway is Rubery and Not Hunnington as stated. Concidering the film shows Rubery.

Is it so difficult to spell a simple place name accurately?
    Harborne often suffers it.
Try spelling other places inaccurately too like
Eastborne, Lundon, Bornmouth, Oxferd, Bristel, Cardif. These are just as stupid as spelling HARBORNE inaccurately. Rant over................
