@@TimberWulfIsHere pretty lousy story line, mech loud outs were pretty bad, repair and salvage were even worse. Also, a lot of the mechs that you see in game would not have been fielded by those factions. Over all, after the first one, it was a let down
This is not a king crab and has very little to do with crustaceans. Also house Liao has a serious problem letting go of anything neat, especially if it lets them be sneaky bastards.
So we have a mech that is used for recon and stealth. It also has a beak shaped nose and is called a Raven mmmmmmmmmm. Where does that sound familiar 🤔.
Of all Battlemech classes, Light Mechs are the most feasible war machines for a RL battlefield in my opinion. They are small and nimble enough to avoid indirect fire and fast enough for quick Hit and Run tactics.
I'm a Medium guy, especially in the 55 ton category. Light enough to jump and go pretty speedy (Wraith tops out at 119kph, Abrams 72) while still having sizable armor and weapons.
Ah yes, when first introduced this little thing was a failure from House Liao. Due to the sensor package not being able to deliver with what was promised.
My very first mech. Man it took me forever to figure out how to get my Pidgey to it's most useful. It carries a load of fire power you rarely see below medium weight. Once you start playing hidden units or double black out rules this thing is a freaking trouble. I honestly see this as an early version test run for future WoB designs. None the less, you say dropping the heavy electronic you can up it's damage curve in some very unpleasant ways lol.
Hello Grim. I hated the Raven when it was first introduced into the game. The introduction of ECM and later ECCM complicated the game so much that a lot of players just would not play if Ravens were fielded on the tabletop. Myself... I just hunted them down and destroyed them as quickly as possible (usually with massed Locust charges). After changing their name from the Star Lions, to the Ghost Lions Legion, the Legion's forces faced RVN-SS Mechs during raids upon Capellan worlds. Due to better battlefield tactics, my forces were able to salvage several of these units. This led to the Legion being able to build their own SS models, eventually. Although the Raven is still one of my least favorite Mechs, it has its place and uses. Even I can see that the Mech can and does fill a role in combat, should the need arise.
Great job GDN, keep up the good work. The LRM versions load out in a way doesn't make much sense. Pairing up a LRM and NARC on the same chassis? NARC beacon launchers have the same range as SRM's. That means you have to get in close to NARC the target, then run like hell to get back out to effective LRM range. All this in a 35 ton light mech, with toilet paper for armor. I'd rather pilot the EW variant, you have a better chance to survive.
The only way to actually use the Raven is to not have a maximum lance size. Even in the lore, the raven is often the 5th mech temporarily assigned to a lance. As a pure scout/spotter a Flea (or Dasher 2) is more effective. Ravens are slower than most light mechs. The ECM doesnt matter if you can run too fast for people to target. In light lances, the Narc doesnt matter because other light mechs dont have the firepower to take advantage. In heavier lances, a Raven takes up a slot that can be used by a heavier mech.
It constantly amazes me that FASA thought that a thousand years from now exposed cockpits with actual windows was not only necessary but a good idea. Surely an infantry portable weapon can fill that sort of thing with very small holes, probably at ranges further than what FASA calculated for most mech weapons, giant robots are giant targets after all and, just like a person, a giant robot has lots of places where a tiny little hole can be made and can do critical damage, pun intended, to one of the many systems whether essential or otherwise. I wonder how well armoured the nose caps of those missiles are against hypervelocity tungsten pellets as they sit there in their launcher nesting quite close to other tubes of boom...
What is even crazier is that the lore carries this foreword. In the Time of War RPG has a quite from a mechwarrior remarking that guided grenades carried by some infantry scare the crap out of him cuz they can home in on the cockpit.
I love the raven for it's utility, weapon setup and design factor. But boii, do I hate it's speed. 30 - 40km/h under a typical light mech that can carry a harsher armament. that's a lot of speed and firepower less for the great utility it brings, but it does make you feel more vulnerable.
My question is, if this thing is mostly meant to just be a mobile "no LRMs for you" platform, why spend the C-Bills to make a mech? Wouldn't it be cheaper to make a more traditional vehicle to hold all the ECM stuff?
The Raven is one of my all-time favourite battlemechs
best use of a raven: mechcommander intro
Almost his last words when the Mad Cat came around the corner, 'Commander, I don't have jump jets '....

Love this guy, 3 mediums and srm4 and NARC ECM and stealth armor makes it a truly dangerous little package.

Crustaceans coming very soon.
I really like the raven 3L. I bloody nosed my way thru in mechwarrior online in that baby. After I ripped out the NARC and Tag.
Chickenwalker battlemechs are always the most aesthetically pleasing IMO
Ah the good old raven love this scout ...
Squawked the Raven "LRM's no more" !!!
My personal favorite.

One of my favorite mech
For the algorithm, but also great work. You have some of the only mech videos around, and they are appreciated.
Glad you like them!
I always thought LRMs would make more sense then SRMs for the Raven since it is supposed to be avoiding close combat as much as possible.
This is one of my Top 3 favorites. Love the 3L in MWO.

True.

um... irl, VTOLS with ERPPC (or other really long range weapons) are the most effective war machines.
No no no! You got it all wrong!
The best war machines are obviously the Warships!
They have "war" in the name, so it's the best option!
For some reason the Ravens ckpit allways reminds me of the Concords nose.

Indeed.
This has always been my favorite mech with the raptor 2 and the timber wolf right behind it .

That does indeed sound really counter productive, lol.
I used to use LRMs on a Raven with the sole intent of getting other pilots to ignore lock warnings.

The love for the Raven has been spread, thanks for the video on this awesome little chicken ^^.

On one hand it is severely undergunned, on the other... A stealth mech, the potential that implies is amazing.
Raven- because you want your teammates to be happy.

You really have to check out Robotech. It's from the late eighties early nineties but it's great for a fleshed out stories and incredible Mechs.
I watched the first season like a year ago. I guess the distinct mechs come in later, lol.

Well, the Raven is arguably more agile and even faster than most vehicles. It would also be more durable, provided it doesn't engage anything heavy.
Shoot the targeting system and by the table top rules and find all pother weapons are unable to be used
