THANK GOD FOR THIS VIDEO. I felt like all the advisors at my college didn’t know how to handle my case bc it was IO psych and most are going into clinical psych
Same. I'm about to finish my Bachelor's in psychology at the university of south Florida and my advisor was asking about my graduate school aspirations and I said business or education and I don't think she had anything for me lol.
chasey1978 i just graduated from USF with a psych degree and am applying for i-o programs this fall! USF has a great i-o program, i’d connect with some of the professors there.
Great video Olivia! As a fellow I/O student, I totally agree with everything in the video. I am also a new subbie as we need more I/O psych awareness on YT. Glad I found your channel
Hi Olivia! This is perhaps one of the BEST and most HELPFUL videos I have watched on the subject! Super interesting and extremely informative! Keep up the good work! Cheers.
Nabiha Chaudhary thank you so much! It took me SO long to gather all this info because I feel like it's not posted anywhere - so I'm SO glad you found it helpful and interesting! :)
Hey, I graduated last year in BE Information Technology here in Mumbai, India. I am interested in studying masters in I/O psychology in the US. . What are your opinions?
idk why i watched this cause im already in grad school for a completely different field but this video was super interesting!! these are really helpful tips! I mainly chose my school since I went there for undergrad and really connected with a professor and his research but then right before I started he moved to live closer to his family... hahahha but I am a TA and that has been amazing!! Definitely agree to look at the course classes to see if they're interesting to you cause that makes it worth it!!
msplantpromotion hahaha thanks so much for watching!! Ugh I can't wait to be a TA! I think that's what I'm most excited about 🙊 and oh no your professor left! 😅 that sucks!!! I'm glad you're still loving it though!
Wow, this video was really awesome and informative. I feel like you answered all my questions that Ive had from the gaps of info left after reading/researching online! Thanks!
You're welcome ☺ ♥ you are doing an incredible job, your videos are very informative 🤗. Our academic year this side starts in February so this is actually my second week and I'm loving it!! I'm walking to my I-O 9h35 lecture right now ☺ I'm pretty sure we are a few hours apart ♥ keep uploading these videos I'm sure many can agree with me when I say they are very helpful ♥ ☺
I was so set in one specific IO Psych graduate Program (Texas A&M College Station), but it’s pretty competitive. I’m glad I watched this video because now I know I have more options than I thought...It’s always good to have backup plans! Thank you so much 😊
Honestly thank you so much for this video. I'm just starting my college career and something is pulling me towards this field. This video was so helpful I have no idea why there aren't more videos regarding I/O psych
Hey Olivia! I am a UC Davis student who is currently interested in applying in industrial organizational Psychology program and i just wanna thank you so much for your advice!!!! Have a great day!!
Xiaotong Liu a fellow Aggie! 💙🧡 that’s great! I def recommend taking organizational communication with Virginia Harrison! There is also a SOC class that is I/O related (literally found out about it 3 weeks before I graduated lol) best of luck!!
Thanks a lot, this is the career i am planning to pursue. Kind of hard finding stuff for this career since my undergrad school is big on clinical psychology. But luckily there will be a class for I/O next semester (which my advisor said doesn’t come around much) and this video popped up just in time.
I totally get it! My school didn't have I/O psych either, so I had to find out all of this info on my own time! i'm so glad your school has at least one course for you to try out next semester! Good luck :)
omg I did the DCP and used to watch your DCP videos leading up to my first program! I loved them! and now I'm looking into applying for masters programs for I/O psych and you came up! This was super helpful thanks :)
Hi Olivia! Thank you so much for this video! I am from India and your video really helped me understand IO Psychology better. It definitely seems like something I might want to pursue. Thanks again :)
Hi Olivia! This video is so helpful! I was wondering if you had any other resources to check out that could help between choosing a master's or PhD program?
Hannah Nicolaisen If you want to do the corporate / business side I would say go for a terminal Masters degree (typically M.S not M.A.). If you want to go research and academia with the potential to go business then I would say PHD! The PHD programs have a built in M.A. that you earn during your first two years. Other than that I don’t have any resources on hand unfortunately!
Thank you so so much for this video! I am graduating soon and would really like to get into IOP. How are you doing with IOP now? Are you doing a PhD program with IOP?
I used to watch your dcp videos & now I found this one! Did your DCP experience benefit/relate to your psych studies? & if you don't mind me asking what was your timeline like after high school? (bachelors, dcp, grad school, gaps, etc). Thanks for the helpful videos 💕
That's so awesome! Thanks for watching this channel too! To answer your questions: 1) No, it didn't really help or relate to my psych studies 😂 It was just something I wanted to do 2) I went to Davis immediately after high school, then during the fall quarter of my junior year I took a leave of absence and that's when I did my DCP (Fall 2016). i started school again in January 2017 and graduated in December 2017 (I was supposed to graduate June 2018, so I graduated 2 quarters early). I then had about 5 months off before doing the Disney summer alumni program in summer 2018, and then started at penn state in August 2018! And I'm still a student there. I hope that helps! ;)
Hello, I'm an international student who wants to pursue my masters in i/o psychology. I'm not able to find any good mentors to guide me in order to choose the best university/programme for me. I found your video extremely helpful and i would be highly grateful if you could help me a little with this. Is it possible to personally reach you on any of your social media platforms? Thank you.
Hey, I’m looking into an online MA in Industrial Organizational Psychology. The program is in the business department of the school but it seems like it’s a regular IO Psych program. You’re the only one I’ve heard talk about this distinction. Is it automatically Organizational Behavior if it’s in the business department?
Hello! If it's titled I/O Psych then I would assume it's IO Psych not Org Behavior! I recommend taking a look at the coursework to make sure it's what you want!
Great video! I already have a masters degree and license in a related field (lcsw/psychotherapy) and I'm wondering if it might make more sense to do the i/o masters since I'm interested in doing more applied work like consulting.
It helps but you don't have to. You will just be required to take some prerequisites if your current degree didn't require them. For example research methods, statistics, introduction to psychology.
Thanks for the video! Just wondering if SIOP web is safe one since I kept going to that link, but it kept saying it's not a private and has some risks..
Idk if you’ll see this comment, knowing that this video was two years ago. But if you do see this comment, I was gonna ask what type of careers or work industry can students with a master degree go into? I was hoping to land a job working with one of the big tech companies FAANG (Facebook Amazon Apple Netflix, and or Google). To be honest any industry that’ll pay good money. Also is MPs(masters of professional study) a good degree to get into?
I think you still can! That website isn't updated super often from my experience. Just keep an eye out for whether it's funded or costing an ungodly amount of money

i’m so glad i found your account & this video! just subbed. i’m applying for i-o phd programs this fall!
God bless you for making this video! i am trying to narrow down my search for grad schools and i couldnt find any good resources to look until this!
I'm so so glad you've found this helpful! :D I was completely lost during my search lol
Thank you, Olivia!!! All of your tips were great, but you really hit the mark with the last one: Go visit the school!! Thanks a lot for this video!
So glad you thought so! Yes, no better way to feel out a school then to stand there yourself

Ooh interesting! What do you want to do? Thanks for subscribing! I should tell you though, I'm studying Media Effects now not I/O!
Olivia's Grad School Vlogs I think I want to work in Human Resources! Still enjoying your videos! Media Psychology sounds really interesting!

I'm so glad!!!! I was SO overwhelmed too when I started my search, so this is literally 2.5 years of researching I/O programs 🤣

Rita Gomes media psych! I went through the entire process for both, so I still wanted to share my info for potential i/o Psych grad students!

This is really helpful! Has anyone here gone through the Rice University IO program? How is it?
I am considering applying. But rice is so expensive.
So, should I get an undergrad in psych first then pursue a University that offers I/O Psychology?
you should really ask a school counselor that question!
It helps but you don't have to. You will just be required to take some prerequisites if your current degree didn't require them. For example research methods, statistics, introduction to psychology.
where did you do your masters?
Penn State!

It's safe! I think that particular link might be broken
@@oliviasimonephd Thank you! Also, one more question. From job hunting perspective, is there any age limit to apply for Master in I/O psychology?
New Horizon I wouldn’t think so, but I don’t work graduate admissions for I/O, so that may be a question for them!
The link for the SIOP database isn't working... is there another one I can follow?
