As a kid, I sided with Charles for aiming to have mutants and humans live side by side peacefully. As I got older and began to understand the nuance of XMen's themes, I began to understand Magneto's segregation perspective. Even the mutant registration act began to make sense. Not all mutants are good guys and not all humans are bad guys.

I recognize that panel shown 6:36. That one black guy kept using the term Mutie, a slur for Mutants and he doesn't care that it could be hurtful, so she calls him the N-word. It was a good way to show that your skin color doesn't mean you can't be bigoted towards someone else. It's like today how a lot of showrunners, writers, and creators just dismiss criticism from others as whatever word they like to use at the time.

I agree that mutants are an imperfect allegory for social prejudice and injustice. Many mutants are dangerous, both to others and themselves. Humanity's fear is a legitimate grievance.
Personally, I think the allegory only works when mutants are the only people in the respective continuity that have super powers, like in the Fox live-action films. Hatred and fear of mutants specifically works less and less in the comics with each passing year, and I doubt it will work in the MCU.
If I lived in a world where aliens, Demi gods, actual gods, monsters, vampires, witches, sorcerers, clones, cyborgs, AI androids, beings that consume planets, and hundreds of humans using exotic technology that can let them do anything from talking to animals to teleporting to hypnosis to time travel... am I really going to single out mutants as the bane of existence? 🤷

    • @jeggsonvohees2201
      @jeggsonvohees2201 7 місяців тому +5

The allegory was never part of the XMEN's creation, that was a then modern interpretation that readers ran with. It just became the common belief over time and no one really ever checks if it's true.

The FoH have Roberto in a mutant collar, but how did they catch him? Because he tells jubilee that he doesn’t like to use or show off his powers. So how did they know he’s a mutant and why would he just go with them or allow himself to be taken? We also don’t know anything about him, except for his name and he’s trying to bride them. Why wouldn’t he have done this before capture? Then it’s gets cold and the sky thunders. Then we can hear Storms voice booming saying her line “I’m storm mistress of the elements” which is a call back to the OG premier episode. However Storm is talking to the sentinel in front of her, that works because it’s an enclosed environment and she is talking to someone. Her entrance seems like she was carrying a megaphone. She and bishop crash in and it’s exciting yes, but personally feels more like empty spectacle than anything. Compare to the OG premiere where it’s set up better. We meet Jubilee, we get information about her from her foster parents. She unknowingly had a Sentinel pursuing her, she then bumps into Storm and Rogue and they too meet her by chance. They also don’t know that a sentinel is coming, so when the fight begins, it spectacular because it’s been built up. Here there’s none of that. Then cyclops blast his way in and it’s amazing to see cyclops be a badass. However him opening his eyes at his human captors goes against everything about him and the cause and effects of their powers. Cyclops wears his visor to control the intensity of his powers, because without them he could blow a hole in a mountain. This is information that was mentioned several times in the OG show and the films. So what happened here? Someone tried to excuse it as “we see one of them in episode two” but that just takes away any stakes of the show and takes the cause and effects of their powers. Just to make something look cool. Then the episode has two more callbacks to the OG premiere show when Roberto wakes up in a bed just like the OG premiere episode and Hank is hanging upside down. Then the show has so much information dump but never once does anyone ask, How did you all know where he was? Why did they rescue him? Did Jean sense him or something? Did she use Cerebro? Did his parents ask they look for him? I don’t know and this show won’t tell you. Then for some reason Roberto is in the Danger Room, for some reason because Jubilee was in the Danger Room. Except she ran in there by accident and not by choice. I mean she doesn’t even know what his powers are and he’s just thrown into the danger room. Wouldn’t they have asked him first? What if his powers were more defensive than offensive, he could be killed. But whatever I guess. The Holographic Magneto looks amazing by the way. Sometimes the animation has great flow and other times it’s a bit static and sometimes the audio doesn’t line up with the visuals but the same is true for the OG. Wolverine then tackles and scares him. Why? He doesn’t know him, why would they allow him to do that, except to add another call back to when Wolverine tackled Gambit and tells him to say Uncle. Jean and Scott are talking to the UN president on a treadmill because once again that’s what happened in the OG premiere episode and personally it’s getting old. It makes what you’re watching feel incredibly predictable. The three of them are discussing Trask and Gyrich and them shutting down their sentinel base in season one. Except they battle the sentinels two more times, in Genosha they built a new Factory and had mutants imprisoned. Strom, Gambit and Jubilee were among them. Also Mastermold was finally defeated by Moprh in the episode Courage. They also destroyed any remaining sentinels. But this episode completely ignores those two very important encounters. Scott looks out the window and we can clearly see Wolverine, Jubilee, Gambit and Morph playing basketball. Nevermind both Jubilee and Wolverine were with Roberto only a few moments ago. A basketball breaks in the window, and jubilee is blasting Wolverine for scaring Roberto off. I guess he did it while they played Basketball? Because last we saw the three of them together was in the Danger Room. So did they change clothes first and not talk about it? Did he scare him while they were playing, if so where was he? The OG had its issue but it rarely had this many pacing, editing and story issue in one episode. Then we get a dance club scene for some reason. Now the final fight has some cool moments but since when is there a module in the sentinels where someone can control it and when did Beast get superhuman strength, so strong he can lift a sentinel. Too bad he didn’t have super strength in the OG. The of course the gambit charging Wolverine claws, which would cause Wolverines hands to blow up once they made contact with another object and that Wolverine’s claws can already cut through anything, making this move silly and pointless. Then the episode ends with Magneto picking up the picture that fell from the wall, cause I guess no one picked that up, with the same picture already on the wall in the background.

    On the allegory part.
    I half agree with you.
It's often used in an awkward way especially since most stories don't emphasize or make clear the fact most mutants don't have powers that are even slightly useful.
That roll of the dice will give you naturally purple hair or a lizard tail on most rolls and these mutants do get hate leveled against them largely due to their appearance.
So there it is making a excellent point.
With the more powerful ones I feel more nuance should be explored.
The stories should judge them on an individual basis as while true some have harmful and destruction powers others or innately beneficial.
The individuals using those abilities also greatly influence how they are perceived.
For example when Cyclops loses his visor fighting X-Cutioner he actively chooses not to defend himself because his eye blasts might harm civilians.

It's from my perspective an alagory on autism and the people wanting to cure autism. It's fine to develop tools that help people deal with their powers like cyclop's glasses, like its fine to develop tools to deal with someone's autism like schedules (they work for some people I think, might be a bad example). but curing it is like removing what someone is

First of all, the show definitely can't be considered bad (so far) but oh boy, do I have some issues. First of the animation. I honestly don't know why people praise it as much as they do. It looks janky, they move like some frames are missing, and in the intro when they run they look like they're sliding across the screen. The 90s animation looks much better, and it has more details. Also, I'm not a fan of how they handled Bolivar Trask in the first episode. Why is he making Sentinels (also how with no government support) and how could he have another Master Mold? The last time he did this Master Mold went rogue and Trask regretted making the decision, saying he made something "truly inhuman" indicating his views on mutants not being human have changed, not to mention he also tried destroying Master Mold himself. I honestly felt like his character was ruined for Sentinel nostalgia bait. Also, during the trial of Magneto, the man was way too easily forgiven for all the horrible stuff he committed, by both the X-Men and the judges. And how come they aren't double-checking his sudden claim of having Charles' last will and testament? Yeah, he might be planning something but the fact the characters aren't picking up on obvious clues is kinda dumb. Also, Magneto and Rogue... No. Just no. Not only is it weird, it makes no sense continuity-wise. There are good things like some character interactions, Cyclops (my favorite X-Man) is definitely getting justice done to him, and the last twist has me interested, but I'm not holding too much hope for this project

Episode two was less offensive on the memberberries of the OG premiere episode. But I didn’t like how the episode played out. It was making Magneto more sympathetic and I personally get annoyed with that. Magneto has also attacked many factories and army facilities unprovoked and even the X-men unprovoked. This feel very much like Wandavision and Falcon and Winter Soldier. Especially when he takes the judges and X-Cutiner hi above the sky. Because nothing says”I’m not a threat”, by taking regular folk high into the sky against their will and blaming them for what happened. And no I don’t care about his speech to them, he has them at a disadvantage, how does this make him look sympathetic? During the battle at the trial, Storm clearly sees X-Cutiner aiming his gun at magneto. But instead of hitting him with lightning, a gust of wind, or anything. But no she instead flies in front of the blast. Why? I know many will say “this was in the comics” however she wasn’t aware the shooter and the shooter wasn’t aiming at her. Her back was away from them preoccupied with other matters. Also why is Wolverine taking Jean to a hospital? They have a medical wing and yes her powers would manifest while in labor and I would think the X mansion would be better equipped for any mutant powers than a regular hospital. Also Beast is a medical doctor, he has performed surgery before and remember he restored a young girls sight in the OG show. So why wasn’t beast with Jean? Or why didn’t Wolverine take Jean down to the medical wing in the mansion and Cyclops orders beast to go back to the x mansion? This is what bothers me with he writing is this show so far. The show is watchable, but I hesitate to call it good. There's a LOT of cramming and ramming of plot/story points, it's very fast pased. The issue with the cramming of Comic points into the show is the ones they chose were not actually shown in the original series. At no point were Mags and Rogue an item in the show. Also, the Trial of Magneto was... Problematic. He gets exonerated of years of committing terrorist acts by not killing everyone at his trial? Really? That's the bar we're setting now? One thing that was unnecessary is making Morph non binary. 97 takes place in the late 90’s-early 2000’s. That term wouldn’t be used until the late 2010’s. Apparently if a character shapes shifts that automatically means that they don’t want to identify with their sex. This happened with the character of Camilo from Encanto. Many people made a head cannon that he was nonbinary or gender fluid. This movie takes place in the 1950’s. In many different myths there are shape shifters that’ll change their appearance to look like the opposite sex. I find it annoying when fans and writers do that. Another thing about Morph is his new design. It seems bland in my opinion.

From the jump, the director blasted any writers who secretly hated the source material; he told them, 'If you have an agenda, don't work for me. X-Men fans only!'
Then, after he directed most of season one and finished outlining season two, they promptly shitcanned him. For, of all things, having an only fans account; something that has nothing to do with the project. A gay only fans, if I recall.
My take? The woke minders bided their time, waited for a guy with talent and passion for the comics to do all the bothersome WRITING, and now they're going to gleefully cannibalize any hard-earned repute the show's first few episodes, or first season, will garner; incrementally smuggling more and more communist piss in the lemonade and calling anyone names who asks, 'Does this taste salty?' until their piss is the whole pitcher.
