  • Wiring my cabin was so overwhelming at first! I had so many questions, how many circuits should I use? what size wire? what kind of breaker? It took a lot of research but I ended up figuring it out and I will show you the step by step installation of the 9 electrical circuits I ran in my cabin. This complete step by step guide will show you everything I did and how you can do it too when you will be wiring your next cabin or tiny house project!
    You want to know the budget for this Cabin and what each stage of the construction has cost me so far? Join my emailing list as I send a monthly newsletter diving into the numbers. Go ahead and add your email there and you will also receive the FREE Cabin Blueprint:

    I am Tristan, I am building a 400 SF cabin at the back of my house. I plan on doing it all by myself. I plan on sharing this journey here on UA-cam where I will show you every step of the way, all the struggles I run into and everything I will learn from this experience. I will then rent the cabin as a short term rental in hope of covering most, if not, all my house mortgage (House Hacking). Follow me here as this will absolutely be one of a kind journey.

      No insulation needed in the walls? Seriously?

      Makes sense.
      Given how the framing is "overbuilt", it'd be nice if you'd also show an over-insulated solution. LOL

    My dad and I absolutely love your videos. We've been watching from the start. My dad has been wondering about permits and inspections? What type of permits, and if you have to pass different phases with inspections, etc. Perhaps you could talk a bit about that in one of your videos. Thanks so much! We look forward to your next video! You're doing an amazing job! 🙂

      Maria, thank you so much for such an encouraging comment, I really appreciate it.
      I do have to go through all the typical inspections as I want this done the right way. So far, I signed off on my foundation myself since I’m a licensed engineer but I will have to get the county inspector to perform all sorts of inspections. The first one will be the rough framing which I’m hoping to get done in a few months once I finish the front deck, and install the metal roof. I’ll definitely talk about all that when I get to that point.
      Also way back when, the health department did inspect the septic system and he’s gonna have to come back out one last time once the main water line will be in place.

    Great video. I am buying a run down camp and will have to redo almost everything. Watching this video gives me more courage to do most of the work myself (which actually means me and my teenage son).

    This helps a ton, thanks. I'm at this stage now on a very similar build but will be using solar DC fridge and solar DC mini-splits. Everything will be powered from the Delta Pros ( No grid tie).

    I love watching your cabin series! Do you think one light above the bathroom sink is enough for the bathroom? I'm thinking it could be somewhat dark (especially in the shower area). A recessed light in the ceiling above the shower might be a good addition. In the kitchen a hood above the cooktop with vent and exhaust fan.

    • @TheDIYCabinGuy
      @TheDIYCabinGuy  Рік тому

      Yeah not a bad idea, I mean they’ll be a light on the fan I’ll install so that’ll help too.

    Good to use your laser to put all receptacles in plane with each other. Switches too.

  • @journeybeforedestinationov3553

    Should have used at least 2 circuits for the lights and 2 for the plugs. It cuts down on the heat in each circuit if y up Ju load it up and it especially allows you to work on half the lights with the breaker off while still having light on the second circuit. Common sense in wiring.

  • @geoffreymills9932
    @geoffreymills9932 Рік тому +2

    I don't know what code is where your at but 12 points on one 20 Amp is max around me, each receptacle has 2 and each light is 1, you've got a lot of stuff on one breaker

    • @TheDIYCabinGuy
      @TheDIYCabinGuy  Рік тому

      Yeah that’s a good point, I hope it’ll pass inspection. Circuit #1 might have too many things, granted all lights will be led’s and won’t be pulling too much.
      I’ll know soon enough when I get the rough framing inspection.

    Thanks so much for the videos. I'm doing research for building a 400 sq ft addition. Was a permit pulled? I'm hesitant to build by myself simply because of 1) time line to complete the work in 6 months as required by my county due to me working full time and 2) not building to code (I've read and researched from IRC 2018 but can't just understand the jargon!)

    • @TheDIYCabinGuy
      @TheDIYCabinGuy  Рік тому +1

      Yes I’m pulling all permit and will be getting all required inspections.
      I didn’t know that some places had a timeline to complete the work. That would be stressful.

      @@TheDIYCabinGuy Just a thought but have you considered dividing the receptacles from the lighting and putting them on their own circuit. I only say that because a vacuum cleaner plus lighting or say an electric space heater plus lights might push you close to 20amps
