      Hi, can you recommend me your surgeon? I got a referral to a surgeon, he was taking to about open heart surgery in order to fix my leaky valve and when I asked him about the mitral valve clip procedure, he said that procedure is for older people since I'm only 53, he would only recommend open heart surgery which I'm really scared of the open heart surgery to fix my leaky valve.

    I had minimally invasive mitral vale repair in 2010. I am well and active now. I had atrial fib after the surgery. Took meds for a year. Then doc took me off meds. Question…is is uncommon to develop a fib after surgery? I didn’t know to expect that. Wouldn’t have changed my mind about the surgery… best decision my cardiologist helped me to make!

I do not have a cardiologist at this time but am dealing with a Cardiovascular Center. I just turned 81 and other than shortness of breath at times and some heart palpitations which I have gotten medication and high blood pressure that came out of the blue two years ago but now I'm on medication for as well, this is really scary for me.

      Hi Rudolph, This is a great question. While we do know that MitraClip explants are happening, we are not aware IF the mitral valve can then be surgically repaired. My first echo was a month ago and shows that I have mitral regurgitation and showed moderate to severe. My second echo show moderate regurgitation not severe but shows moderate in the aortic valve as well. Is it normal for a valve to show moderate to severe in one echo then just show moderate in the second? But what happens if I have moderate in 2 valves at the same time?

    • @HeartValveSurgery
      @HeartValveSurgery  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jlady, You raise a great question. In the past, we have heard of patients getting different echocardiogram results. However, this is typically not a result of the heart valve getting "healthier" given the nature of structural heart disease (which is progressive). More times than not, this can be a result of variable technician interpretations of the images seen during the echocardiogram. Have you thought about asking your medical team this specific question? We imagine your medical team may want to perform another echocardiogram to know - with certainty - the current state of your mitral valve. You may even want to invite your cardiologist to the echocardiogram so that they know exactly what is happening with your mitral valve. Hope this helps!

      So yesterday I had a TEE and a heart cath. Some of the notes state mild MR at most. This was the TEE report. So how do I know which is accurate. I have shortness of breath and fatigue. The shortness of breath is not all the time. I guess I’m struggling with the fact that the echos are different from the TEE. I SEE MY Cardiologist on Dec 7th to discuss how he wants to proceed. Does that seem normal for the echos to be off from TEE. Sorry, it’s my health I am concerned about, just confused. Thank you

      @@Jladyblu hope you are well. A TEE gives a better view of the heart's structures from behind the heart.

    I'm in Idaho and just found out that I have lv.hypokenisis and moderate to severe mitral valve regurgitation, 47% ejection fraction.
    My cardiologist said I can't get surgery till it is severe. I continually feel my heart pounding it is so bothersome that I don't sleep much and I have edema so bad and fatigued, plus hard time breathing going up stairs. She wants me on Metoprolal and that is it. I'm 58 and on Medicaid, I'm not sure if it's because of being on Medicaid as to why she isn't allowing surgery. My friend said he's willing to pay for it if that's the case.

      Hi, Given you are symptomatic, we are wondering if you might want to get a second opinion. Are you anywhere near Boise? If so, here is a link to learn about Dr. Robert Saeid Farivar, a very experienced valve specialist at Saint Alphonsus Health in Boise - www.heart-valve-surgery.com/surgeons/dr-Robert+Saeid-Farivar-Boise-Idaho.php.
