It can if the weight is distributed evenly on the shank of the hook. Usually a belly weighted hook has the weight consolidated on the hook shank either in the middle or on the first third of the hook. The Ozark Rig, though similar to belly weighted hooks, has much more even distribution of the weight.
Are you fishing the Open on Lake Ouachita in February? I'm looking forward to meeting with all the pro anglers there since I live here in that area. Also I am looking forward to trying out this Ozark rig when Core tackle comes out with the 1/4 oz and the 1/2 oz sizes on a 3/0 and 4/0 hook. I've no use for the tiny ones currently available. 👍🇺🇸
What advantage does that hook have over a belly weighted hook? Been throwing that rig for years using a belly weighted hook , my buddy on Chickamauga showed me that years ago, calls it the flippididodad rig
Belly weighted hooks that are on the market right now generally don’t distribute the weight as evenly on the shank of the hook. Belly weighted hooks generally will do something similar, but the Ozark Rig is optimized for getting more glide.
It could be, I think the hook may be a little too light for fishing in real thick stuff, but it could work for that for sure. Have you looked at the TUSH swimbait hook?
We don't have it here i sweden but just got a mail that I got some one the way from tackle warehouse. Ozark, weedless hover rig, ultimate swimbait hook and a bunch of finisher 5/7/9 and will look too both Mats and your videos to teatch me all about it. :P
That should work on it, although I would say that the hook might be a little small for the ole monster. Give it a shot with it and let me know how you like it!
I have used the Ozark 3/16 lure. Haven’t had any bites yet. I like the design and functionality. I’d like a 1/4 oz so I can cast further with my bait caster.
I'm excited about all the ones you mentioned, and also just a normal "trick worm" style worm. Reminds me of the old slider head style that the ole timers use with zoom trick worms.
The ozark and hover rig work. I had them this past fall and quickly they became follow up rigs for swim jigs. I can’t wait to really put time in with them in late winter and early spring. I short pitch them from the bank and let them glide back to me or let them sink and hop them back. I couldn’t believe how the bass loaded up on them even in 45-48 degree water. …. I agree about the zinkers, not my favorite for weightless but love them Texas rigged or cut them down for swim jig/ pitching jig trailer. My sleeper jig trailer.
It’s definitely similar, but as you can tell by looking at the weight distribution, the Ozark Rig really distributes the weight more evenly on the shank.
Thanks Miles! I have all the ZMan baits you discussed, minus the Palemetto Bugs and ordered some Ozark Rigs earlier this Winter. Can't wait for Spring time here in MN!
Hey Miles, I’m glad you are on the Core Tackle tools, and I’ve got all of their products in support of Matt and Johnny. I hope you get to put them to work with great success 😜🍀🎣🍀😜
Great video Miles I know your a Z man type of guy. I also have these rigs. I'm curious if the fat ika from yamamoto is going to work since I like throwing them. Any thoughts?
I think the Fat Ika would be a great fit for this kind of hook. My concern would be how thick the Ika is and how narrow of a gap the Ozark Rig has. I’d try it, but if you have issues getting a good hook set, I would try cutting a hook slit in the bait.
I have been sold on all the core tackle hooks since they have come out! Having a weighted bait is essential in most presentations and having a hook without a large lead or tungsten head that prevents/ interferes good hook sets regularly is eliminated with all of their designs. No Brainer for me!
I've got all of the core tackle inventions, but I don't like the Ozark rig the way it's made, the line tie is what keeps the bait in place, there needs to be a higher line tie or a deeper cut out, the bait will not stay in place it rides up on the line, but the zman baits or elisctech plastic will probably be better than other plastics!
I you that's pretty cool I like how that is made
Yeah, it’s a pretty cool hook!
I use Owner hooks ,what hooks are they ? Any good?
You know, Im not sure what hook they use in it. Looks like a good hook to me though!
Do you find that the Zman Palmetto Bugs are too thick to get good hookups with the Ozark rig?
Do they offer a size for a 2 3/4 inch trd?
Love the rig ...enjoy ur videos
That means a lot, thank you for watching!
Ordering some of these!
I’d like to know how you like them! I really think they are going to be killers in spring!
The lack of bite gap has me worried. Not much room with the plastics possible getting in the way...unless you're using it on a worm.
I have at times used a weighted ewg hook to get basically the same fall instead of a Texas rig
Do what works, that’s for sure!
What Z-man stuff do you like best with the hover rig? I tried the baby goat today. It looked really good.
Im still experimenting with the hover rig, but as of right now I like the Trick ShotZ and the 4” Jerk ShadZ the most.
Miles doesn't a belly weighted hook give that same horizontal dive?
It can if the weight is distributed evenly on the shank of the hook. Yes, Ill be at Ouachita! Im looking forward to it. Hope to meet you there!

you are on more this week than the weather people!!!! East TENN get that much snow or cabin fever!!!! LOL!!
Me too!! I asked for snow, but got the ice too!
That looks like a solid was to present swimbaits through grass. What do you think? Swim it and kill it, and it has a nice glide.
It could be, I think the hook may be a little too light for fishing in real thick stuff, but it could work for that for sure. Have you looked at the TUSH swimbait hook?
@@SonarFishing I love the 2/0 for the diesel minnow
Miles, can you do some content on outerwear for cold weather and weather going into spring?
Ill work on a video today talking about cold weather gear!
Got most of the core tackle terminal tackle. Can't wait to put them to work come spring.
Same here!

I will do my best to help you learn the Ozark Rig and many others we use over here! tack så mycket för att du tittade!
Wow! Cant wait to try it on a zoom ole monster!!!
That should work on it, although I would say that the hook might be a little small for the ole monster. Give it a shot with it and let me know how you like it!

I think just like anything else, you will need to keep experimenting with it and you will find where it works best.

Love the feedback man!
Was thinking is ozark similar to a weighted swimbait used as Texas rig? ❤ the palmetto bug its also great on a heavy hover rig
It’s definitely similar, but as you can tell by looking at the weight distribution, the Ozark Rig really distributes the weight more evenly on the shank.

Yeah, you guys have a thaw that you need before you can get out!
Hey Miles, I’m glad you are on the Core Tackle tools, and I’ve got all of their products in support of Matt and Johnny. I hope you get to put them to work with great success 😜🍀🎣🍀😜
Elaztech works great on the Ozark rig😜👍👊
Me too! Thanks Will!

I see how that can be an issue. Try putting a drop of super glue on the eye when rigging. I think this will keep it in place.
