I used to work in a restaurant that had one of these guys just outside, he was always super nice so during the winter I bring him out coffee and he would always bring the staff a bunch of bags of nuts when he would shut down for the night (the same time as the restaurant).

He got very sick because it was one of his first years working himself in the U.S but he always talks so highly of his first job and how kind Alejandro was. He became a resident in 1992 and a citizen in 2000. The guy who brings delicious treats to New Yorkers had to illegally cross into the country and work for 8 YEARS to be declared a legal citizen. Everyone forgotten about the fights he has to do to defend his stall and business from the aggressive drugged up drunk and homeless people. I really respect streetworkers they have to put up with so much from crazy people who wont leave them alone to do business for paying customers and attack them and their cart for no reason or demanding free food/money. As a retail worker in a store atleast I could walk away or call for manager help from a crazy situation to calm it down but they are alone stuck on their corner of the street open for anything to happen to them at any time. Respect for anyone that can tough out dangerous situations on the job and keep on going.

the BEST dessert in NYC, their cashews were such a big part of my childhood. What's amazing is that they have a website now, so if you moved from NYC you can still get this treat. I recently ordered 2 pounds worth, and I'm so happy I did. They taste just like I remembered. Alex has the best recipe for honey roasted nuts, others I've had never taste as good as his. And he seems so down to earth as well. Much respect to him! I'm happy I can support another POC owned business :)

Recently tried those cashews, specifically that brand. Can't believe I've never tried them before, and just pass by them. Everyone should try them! It's a must street food next to a halal cart -- the real deal ones, not the commercialized "halal guys".
