Hi! I have 3 male gerbils and I usually feed them vegetables every 3 days, and fruit once every 3-4 weeks (instead of the veggies). My gerbils love peas, red and green pepper, carrot and lettuce; but don't enjoy courgette or pumpkin much. They also love apple, pear and watermelon ☺️ By the way, gerbils can also eat cauliflower and peeled tomato, but leeks must be avoided as they can cause the same issues as onions (they're of the same family). Your gerbils are lovely! 😍 Thanks for your great videos! They're really helpful, as there isn't much reliable information on gerbils.
Papaya is a type of berry, and is safe for gerbils from what I saw while researching. All fruit can be toxic in large quantities, but fed rarely and in tiny pieces should be safe.
@@TheGerbilVine some sites state that it's just not good in big amounts and others say it is generally toxic. I haven't done the science behind it so I just wouldn't take the risk.
@@crith4805 you are entitled to your opinion. Mine is that papaya and mango are safe like other fruits, in small amounts. The sugar & water are what makes it unsafe for gerbils, so limiting that should not be a problem. If they are dried and unsweetened, even better. But they are not toxic for gerbils, and they can safely consome them in small amounts.
I've had many gerbils over the years and have always given them a piece of fruit once a week. I haven't had any problems with my little ones so it should be fine. Sugar is toxic for humans but we eat it anyway, just saying.
i love that you say hello everytime they come out during your video :)
thanks for this video! now I don have to constantly google this😅🤗
6:12 that face😅 I love it
Great video as usual bex, idk how I’d be able to get my gerbils and take care of them without your help so thanks again 💛
So much information, I now have a trusted list for my gerbils so I know what is safe and toxic. Thank u !!
Happy to help!
Great video.

I saw a few sites stating papaya is toxic to gerbils, others don't
