In Germany there are in sale very nice and espacious gerbilariums with topper all ready to be used from the get-go. They are expensive, but no DYI is required. I haven't seen them in sale in USA or Canada unfortunately, so Importing them could be prohibitive in regards to the cost. As for your video, very nice setups! And the subscriber setup is also a blast to see. I wish everyone treated their pets half as well as that
Germany is the leader in small pet care in so many ways. Their minimums, cages, and items all seem to be gerbil appropriate. There may be some gerbilariums you can buy online to Canada, but they are usually too small and not worth it. Thank you so much for watching
Thanks for the very informative and interesting video! I like the benefit of a platform and a topper too. Since I built it myself, it wasn't expensive either. I hope, that many people who are interested in gerbils are going to watch your Videos!
Thank you for this video! I wish it was easier to find toppers for the tanks!! I’ve only been able to find some for the 10 gallon size 👎🏼
I couldn't agree more! All the ready made toppers seem to be for tanks that are too small. It's quite sad, really. Thank you for watching!
Im looking to change up my gerbil cage and make it a lot better so this video was really helpful! My gerbils chew a bunch so i need to make sure everything is safe which i find quite hard😅they literally chewed up their shelf? I dont know if thats the right term, they even chew up the wheel although i give them a bunch of egg cartons, toilet paper rolls, sprays and chew sticks.
Very helpful, I am currently trying to pick out a good new gerbil cage and this was very helpful!!
Good luck in locating the perfect home ! Thank you so much for watching, we're glad we could help :) !
Thanks for the amazing info! One question: do you think a 20 gallon tank with a topper would be okay? Or do you still advise a 40 gallon tank even with a topper? Thanks!!!
I'm sure the gerbils would prefer more space ! I personally wouldn't do a 20 gallon with topper for a pair, but I did do it as a senior retirement for my sick elderly gerbil and he did great.
@@TheGerbilVine Thanks for your reply! I ended up purchasing a 40 gallon tank. :) However, the gerbils I got are rescues and they were separated about 2 months ago and all caged alone. So I'm in the process of going through the split-cage reintroduction process. Hopefully it works for these two! 🙏
Hey! I'm 13 and getting two gerbils soon. I managed to convince my parents to let me get a 40-gallon. I'm just wondering how you split the tank between a high bedding side and a low bedding side?
Sorry if this was already answered in the video.
Sorry for the late response! Seems you're off to a great start on your gerbil journey!
I used a bendy bridge, the gerbils are a hot mess of a pet and will redecorate and kick bedding all over, I bought something on Amazon called tropical fiddle sticks, its like a large bendy bridge for guinea pigs. I stood it up and it made a really tall wall! So you could try that.
Best thing is to make a platform that's taller than the bedding you can put things on, like sand, and water. If you know someone who can use power tools, making my platform took all of 10 minutes.
@@TheGerbilVine Thank you!
How do you attach the wheel upside down? I have the same wheel
I tape it to the back of my tank using industrial gorilla tape. I place the wheel upside down, and put some cardboard at the top in between the metal stand and the glass so it doesn't rattle. Same thing with the bolt on the back of the stand. Its quite an effective way, just make sure to place the tape high enough up they don't have a comfortable spot to get at it ! Happy Hanging :)
Just letting y'all know you can find out more info abt gerbils on my channel Gerbil101
Hi again!! I was wondering if a 20 gallon tank is ok cause it’s all I can afford right now?
Hey! I would say hold off on getting gerbils, and maybe get a Male mouse ? I've heard that's an appropriate minimum size for a single mouse. I have a video on comparing tank sizes, and in there I attempt to set up a 20 gallon and you can see why its not an ideal option. I will link it here: ua-cam.com/video/Z5TLNY3swwk/v-deo.html
Have you consider second hand sites, or Facebook marketplace?
Aw man 😭😭 what about with a cage topper? I was supposed to get gerbils for Christmas
Thx for responding tho!
@@masontorres1360 Ultimately it is up to you as their future owner, but seeing as you did ask for my opinion I thought that I would be honest with you. I personally would not even be able to house a single gerbil in the 20 gallon just for the lack of space. Never mind 2 of them.
What wood did you use to make your platform?
Hey, thank you for watching. The wood that I used for the platform displayed in this video was just Birch. I was able to purchase something called a Birch stair tread, and it was about $19.
Thank you!! I am going to see if so can find something locally for my lovelies.
@@CleverlyChloe2u you're most welcome & good luck !
Do they sleep at night?
You said 40 gallon is perfect but how many gerbils are in the 40 gallon ?
It depends. If it's just a 40 gallon I would cap it at two. If there's a topper and you can add in bedding to the top, you could potentially have more. Best to use judgement and discretion based on the group .
Does anyone know where to get the platform? 😅
I made it very easily using a birch stair treader.
@@TheGerbilVine ahh thank you :)
where do i get 40 gallon tanks??????
cause i only have a 20 gallon for my 2 gerbils and they keep fighting ;-'
@@LocalCupcakez if they are fighting you should separate them immediately. I have a video called declanning you should check out if you're unsure what's normal behavior and whats aggressive.
You can find them in pet stores, online, or second hand sites like kijii, Craigslist, or Facebook marketplace.
And how’s it smell. 👃🏼
My Gerbill Ate the other one now I am confuse why my gerbils ate each other
