Like many others I was out on Sunday with older DJI gear - Phantom 4 Pro, Mavic Pro and Mini 3 Pro. The two veterans only pick up GPS, no Glasnost, so had the usual 12 satellites. All of them flew with complete stability and reliability, including RTH.
I’m not suggesting we shouldn’t pay attention. But keep a watchful eye on the Telemetry and bring it back in at the first sign of anything strange happening.
Yes indeed. You need to be observant all the time whilst flying with these conditions 👍 thanks 🙏
I flew my mini 3 today with a 9kp! got 21 sats and had no issues at all, in the past i wouldn't fly above 6kp.
Good to hear
Same here, the KP Index was at the max on Friday afternoon, and no issues whatsoever with the GPS counts, was at 24
KP Index may not be accurate for your location since the data collection sites are few and far apart. . It also may have a latency of 3 hours and can be variable. With so many mid latitude satellites, it may not affect the readings. It appears that it mostly affects HF frequencies. Try other sources of solar weather information. I’m a radio ham too. KE9ANL
@@JoseArrom totally. HF sometimes can be unusable. Good to know you are on the bands too 👍 de M0LAF.
Had my Mini 2 & Mini 4 Pro out both days over the weekend, Sunday (Kp 9) I was filming a local marathon and had both drones hovering in one position for ages with absolutely no problems at all.
Good to hear. Thanks🙏
Thanks, Nobbygreen. I absolutely appreciate the information.
Happy Flying!
Good illustration, Nobby. Cheers from Wisconsin, U.S.A.
Thanks George 🙏
I’m assuming we won’t see anything like this any time soon and you were at the top of the chart. Ours was only 8.67 today. Lol. Awesome test man!
Hey Kevin. You wasn’t far off then at 8.67 😁 atmospheric incidents can happen anytime but there’s usually a build up. Enjoy your break brother 👍
Nice one mate an item we mostly miss especially here in uk to used to looking at rain forecast lol.I flew yesterday was 9.0 and didn't miss a beat to be honest.
I think that should get added to our forecast haha... that will be constantly red! Cheers mate
Another good one Nobby. 35c in Miami this afternoon. Too breezy to fly also...
Regards
Lou
Thanks Lou. That’s pretty warm out there. Damn the wind tho 👍
Another great video Nobby, didn't get any problems here. My daughter sent me some photos of the night sky, we had none here. Many thanks for sharing the info
Thanks Shaun 👍 it was pretty much all over the uk Saturday evening. Thanks for watching 🙏
We were told that anything above a 3KP was not good. Technology is getting better
Possibly yes. I always used to not fly above 5 but there was no difference that I found 👍
@@nobby-green Thats good to know because with the sunstorms continuing it can be prohibitive
Great test Nobby. Thank you for the video. Cheers, Bob
Cheers Bob 👍
Thanks for that Nobby. I suppose the less satellites you fly with the more the signal is likely to affect the system? Tried to photograph the Aurora over the past few nights from the Air 3 but no luck. Great to hear you've got got your hands on the Air 3 - you'll find it difficult to use anything else now 🙂
Yeah you need a good sat lock. You’re usually ok if you have more than 15. As for the Air 3 it’s a fantastic piece of kit. I prefer it to my mavic 3 👍 thanks 🙏
I went out on Saturday night to film the aurora, we had a KP of 9 here in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
I launched the MP4 straight up from the tray of my ute to 120m and I was unable to change the camera settings to adjust the iso and shutter speed.
Also when I tried to fly forwards or backwards it was very jerky and seemed like it was stop/starting constantly.
Decided it was best to land it.
Interesting. Looks like you chose well to land it
good info
Thanks, Glad you found it useful
I live in South Australia. We have been having spectacular Southern Auroras the last few nights. Last night according to the "Air Data UAV" the Kp index should have been 9 then dropping to mid 8s. So I grabbed my cameras (DSLR) and headed out to a good advantage point to grab some photos. The result was that Air Data UAV was a long way out, the actual index was 4, hence no Southern Aurora and zero photos. However it did take a little bit longer for my Mini 2 to access the satelites.
That’s a shame. Dropped right down to 5 here today. Maybe you just missed it 🤷♂️ I’m not struck on UAV much prefer AirData to be honest. Thanks 🙏
I see it’s solar flare emissions stuff! I got some fair Northern Light pictures on Saturday. Our Red Eye on STV Player went blocky several times and did wonder if the Aurora had something to do with it.
It can affect lots of things Thanks
Thanks
Thanks Johhny - Much appreciated
Great information! 😃👍👏🐈⬛🐾🍻
Thanks glad you found it useful
Nine is the maximum number on the KP index scale doesn’t get any higher than that which point the Northern Lights can be viewed from the equator. Nice to know that you are another ham I’ve had my license since 1982 G6 GXY.
Small world Mark. Thought you already knew? De M0LAF 👍
We have an Autel Evo II Pro... anxious to see how it works out
I still be cautious. What works for one might not for others 👍
Fully fledged flights today including excellent GPS signal score despite High KP warnings all over the place IMO ❤️😂😜
Good to hear 👍 thanks 🙏
@@nobby-green due to the physics of solar storms the activity causes energy released high up in the earth atmosphere that affects receiving ends on earth like long powerlines - inducing low voltage direct current DC - but with massively force (ampere) - hence the disruptive effects on power grids in both ends - end users and power plants. That phenomenon can induce heavily variations in the high voltage AC delivery vehicle which can destroy everything in between. That's why my little mother says ❤️
@@Teflonfilmare you have a very informative mother 😊 thanks 🙏
I just came here to find out the the kp index is
The satnav in my car was not affected at all, no problem
Good to hear 👍
Cheers, I had an issue flying an Avata when the KP was 7 and mine lost GPS and failed to hold position and flew backwards into trees when the sticks where neutral. Since you where flying the Mini 4 and Air 3 that the O4 was a difference verses a drone with a O3 or less.
That’s quite a possibility with the difference in 03 and 04 thanks 🙏
I personally dont like the RTH Green Flight Path. I feel it Obscures the path view more than is needed. Perhaps if they mad it more transparent or pulse or more like a travelator it would look better.
Yes it can be a little large at times. I notice the higher the RTH the better it looks 👍
Great info Nobby, cheers. I was looking at air 3 on dji store but couldnt find anywhere to buy the drone only, as i already have the RC2. Any ideas?…..Thanks again
I don’t think you can but it as a drone only. That’s why I got it with the rc-n2. It’s the cheaper option and I already have the rc2 so makes a great back up controller in case your rc2 goes down. You can still fly 👍 thanks 🙏
Hi Nobby. Thanks 4 an informative vid. I'm considering purchasing the air 3 fly more combo, did you buy the fly more combo?... I also heard that the RC 2(with screen and foldable antenna) was having problems connecting to home wi fi...? And finally did you purchase the 100Watt charger too? (the 65Watt charger is currently out of stock at DJI).
Hi Michael. Yes I bought the combo with the rc-n2 controller because I already have the rc2. No problem with the rc2 with WiFi at all. It’s a fantastic drone and I prefer it to the Mavic. You won’t be disappointed 👍 thanks 🙏
I never noticed the Kp indicator on the UAV Forecast app until this weekend! I suppose because it was always green previously. 😅 I flew my Mavic 3 Classic yesterday with a Kp of 6 because I was curious now it might be affected as well.
No problems with mine Thanks 🙏
So I was flying in a KPI of seven a while ago, here in Australia I only get about 13 satellites, the drone launched fine and seemed ok, then I lost the ability to change altitude, forward back etc were fine hit RTH and nothing, had to wait for low battery to auto-land the drone
Weird how it affects some and not others. Thanks for letting me know 👍 glad you got it back in the end.
I had issues with losing signal yesterday on the mini 4. Could only fly about half a mile away, and it was returning to home
Probably not KP related. Mini 4pro can lose signal at a lot less than that. Thanks
Did you try doing a hyperlapse with any of the drones?
I was quite alarmed when UAV Forecast reported very high KP Index(9.6) over Vancouver, BC
Hi Philip. I didn’t no. I have seen a few results on other social media tho. There were solid 9’s in most places. Thanks 🙏
Flight today in Northumberland and my RC signal dropped 2 bars and went amber, not seen that before
Thats interesting, but that could just be down to location. What drone was you flying?
@@nobby-green Just a newish 4k Mini, obviously we've had some really impressive northern lights as im out in the sticks so could be location
@@scoopjeff could well be then
I tried it with 7kp and seem to have no problems with the mini 4 pro
Great stuff 👍
Kp?
Do you recommend the battery that's 51 minutes for the mini 4 pro
I have the extra battery for my Mini 3, the flight times are sooooo long that i get bored sometimes lol.
The standard DJI Plus battery is ok, but be aware of third party ones. The drones flash up errors and wont take off.
Hello Batteries plus DJI only
DJI will prohibit us from using chargers from other companies - there will be a block because the battery is charged with a different charger It's a scandal that the manufacturer prohibits the use of substitutes from other companies!!! DJI may warn you, but that's all! Are you asking Mercedes which tires you can buy?
@@Spark_m3p_m4p-ed3rd not when they hold the cards. They may not be intelligent 👍
its amazing how the ignorant drama creators keep posting about the KP index
I know, right divas are UA-cam creators ☺️
Hello Nobby The kp index with a large number of connected satellites is no longer dangerous, as also shown by Marcus from Idaho . Instructors and flying rules still warn against kp>7. Are two tests the rule?
A large number of satellites have improved drone flight conditions
It can affect different people differently if that makes sense. 👍
