Trying to think how this man got through this without shedding a tear, then you realize he's been through this sooo many times!

Then you realize further he's the type to climb into bed with his dead best friends wife. Guys a goof.

Rip David, Jess and Hansjörg. This made me cry because I saw the documentary where you didn’t know you were having a heart attack and you were being positive trying to get better because you wanted to continue. I can’t believe David is gone now. Too soon.

Very nice eulogy given by Conrad for a wonderful person who passed WAY before his time.
The image I best remember of David was him atop Lunag Ri. He looked too young for a first ascent, let alone it being solo.

Claudia and Rinzi, you have to be proud of your son that inspire still lot of people. I look often at his videos, from the incredible Cerro Torre ascent, to Lunag Ri and many others. His smile is so nice and I can feel the goodness of his heart. Be strong, David had a wonderful life and this is because of you.

David’s pic of him as a young boy reminds me so much of my son whom I love more than life itself. I cannot imagine the pain of his parents. My heart just breaks for Jess and Hans parents as well.
I would like to leave these words for the family and friends of David,
"I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other that we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity.
[There is absolute and unbroken continuity.]
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner."
-- Canon Henry Scott Holland of St. Paul's Cathedral

    • @markuslebt
      @markuslebt 4 роки тому +3

its the branding. He speaks german perfectly fine. Since he is "in character" at this event for the "death" of David Lama. he appears as Conrad Anker who is a US identity, therefore he speaks american english. Had he appeared as an austrian or italian climber he'd have spoken austrian german or italian. If you don't understand what I just wrote, you're probably not supposed to.

3Vimages Conrad has to speak at another close friends funeral, can you imagine the pain and difficulty delivering any speech under the circumstance? Maybe you could keep that in mind before being judge mental about one line he said.

I like his start & use of the phrase.
      I don't see it as flippant & ill-chosen.
For what it matters, I am English.

    So avoidable.
The snow pack is always unstable in the Rockies.
Chinooks winds, rain, snow, cold temps and hot temps all in the same hour make the mountains snow packs treacherous
Skiing in the Banff National Park since the 80's has shown me the snow pack is unstable from November to June.
The ultimate risk can come with the price of only ones life...
