Ok it's 1984...I was a 14 yr old, white kid in a small farming town in Ohio, driving around bumping this...all the locals thought the i had lost my fucking mind... But that didn't matter to me...I was hooked.. from the first time I heard this... ...but even to this day (at 53 yrs old) I'm still doing a little I'm dancing and singing along... btw- I heard some Bruno Mars music on the radio by accident (don't listen to bruno mars) and that sounds WAY TOO FAMILAR TO MORRIS DAY... i hope Morris & the time are getting some royalties, credit, or at an least acknowledgment somewhere ...
Thanks for the demonstration of the greatest song in the world on vinyl written by god herself and handed down to the oh you know the rest if you seen Jay and Silent Bob strike back
THE TIME WAS A MONSTER THAT PRINCE CREATED AND FEARED BEING DEVOURED BY ...JESSE JOHNSON TELLS THE STORY IN MUCH MORE DETAIL IN A 1980'S DONNIE SIMPSON INTERVIEW...
@@anthonysingleton1988 But yet the real band was talented enough to have done this on their own. Prince did not just pick people off the streets he could control - whether he meant to or not. Look at how Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced hits for Cherelle, Human League, Janet Jackson and Alexander O'Neal and a few others too. Jesse Johnson, another talented artist that did not need to front for Prince.
Morris is a star in his right he didn't shadow prince he's the best part of the Time that group is the best part of RB true classic love them what times is it Jamie
The worst thing that Warner Bros ever did was try to manipulate Prince's album release schedules in the 1990's. The man was making good music even then, so why get in the way of it or delay it? Especially after they had invested so much cash building Paisley Park Studios for him. What did they expect for kind of money? Prince to only put out an album with ten tracks on it every 18 months or so, like their sister label Atlantic Records was requiring Inxs to do? What the Warners should have done is let Prince release material on his Paisley Park Records sub label on his own schedule, not theirs. Prince's material didn't require record label promotions or backing. Prince proved this to them when he asked not to spend any money promoting "Around The World In a Day." His albums were selling by themselves on their own merits. Not to mention, Prince had a history or working with other artists and making them successful for Warner Bros, as demonstrated here with the The Time. They too, could've been releasing stuff under Prince's Paisley Park Records sub label and still making a killing for the Warners in distribution. Oh well, guess you can't fix stupid.
Primce wrote this and every song they released, your find that he played most of the instruments and jessie and the gang just played when they sung live
Just so you know the song was written by Jesse Johnson! Of course the purple one took the credit just to add insult to injury Jesse didn't even give his credit on the record for writing the song! Now ain't that some S#/+!
Written by prince, all albums of the time up to and including pandemonium are all written by prince with a little help from Morris day, look it up, the time is a prince side band like the revolution.
This is one of those tracks that should be played on vinyl at a very loud volume!
