8:48 is honestly the most effective one to me just due to how sudden, specific and silent it is It even broke my trust of the night system because before that I thought it just changed the visuals and music and added ghost Peaches I dubbed him "Benny"
The one at 8:48 was the one that caught me off guard, I went "up the slope" (next to the door you enter), and then went back into the basement from the door on the left side, didn't see him, but did see a flame sticking out the wall, thought nothing of it, ran past it, he comes out the wall and fills most of my screen with his face as it crashes.
Maybe she succeeded, and because it’s believed to be the prologue on the iceberg (b3313 is heavily influenced by it) This is Mario, experiencing purgatory, unable to cope with being betrayed by his seemingly innocent, dear beloved princess Peach. The game crashes because Mario cannot fathom what happens next, he cannot accept it, he won’t. When Peach appears it’s always so calming but always leads to death. He’s coping with the fact she is not who she seemed. The simple truth, he died on the castle grounds whilst eating a cake. Now, he’s forever forced to roam these halls and remember the events of that fateful day. Oh, and for the toads? She killed them quietly in the halls, skinned their faces off and forced them to remain as faceless apparitions in the castle plexus. Luigi, she drowned him in the fountain outside the castle courtyard, knowing that Luigi is brave only when his brother is hurt or in danger. She had to catch him off guard, and drown him while he trying to get a better look at what the eternal star sign said with his back turned. He couldn’t be left without a brother, she thought, that or he’d step up for once and try to take her down. And bowser, he met the worst fate of them all, so graphic he was trapped as a vengeful spirit, who now forever roams the eternal fort and shares a similar fate to Mario. All forced to roam the halls; the constant cycle of being captured and rescued by two constantly clashing grown men, and the constant pressure of having to meet all expectations and guidelines of a fair and pretty princess. It was all too much. Things weren’t so peachy after all , it seems.
i love how b3313 doesn’t feel like a creepypasta. it never gives the feeling that the game is haunted or corrupted, it just seems evil. it feels like the game isn’t trying to torture the player, but rather its trying to torture mario (and also luigi) instead. m
Not sure if I qualify for this. But the first version I played this game was through the NDS version. Not once did I find the fire bowser painting scary also as a child. Mainly Because I guess by that time, I already had long associated Bowser with fire, volcanoes, a tyrannical ruler in a kid-friendly version of a hellish land. Great video, I've missed a lot of jumpscare areas. You're missing one thing I was playing this game 3 weeks ago late at night and I stumbled upon a large green question mark painting. There was a sign nearby saying that it was built by Magikoopa (or the Koopa Army?) for Bowser so that it can "read the future" or something like that. I entered the painting and it dumped me in this dark maze. There was another sign, but with a blue icon of Mario's face, stating that this area is undeveloped and you may experience seizures or something along those lines. I knew it was a Jumpscare/Horror area because I couldnt quick travel, the pause menu just says "Press A to AAAAAAAAAAAAA". I was running around for a solid 3 minutes . Eventually I freaked myself out and stopped playing because I've never seen anyone's playthrough about this, i recently got jumpscared by one of those Toad Amalgamate thingies during my playthrough, it was so dark I could barely see, and im not ready to see flashing lights because it was 2am at the time. i chickened out and honestly i refuse to play it, it really freaked me out despite not coming across against anything. In all likelihood this was probably a nightmare as ive been grinding at the game for a long time looking for Red Stars to finish off the final Bowser fight (never realized there wasnt enough obtainable red stars to even beat him) so i was probably dreaming of myself playing this, but it felt so real. The only reliable hint I got is that I remember the HUD resembling the final game, with much-more detailed integers. thats all i got, hope you find it!
There's 2 versions of that place - the one you found (with the seizure warning signs) doesn't really have a jumpscare (and is at 9:45) but the other version does and is at 2:05
yeah that area is nowhere in the game, there's a similar area that can be accessed through the magikoopa painting but nothing like this, never saw that "blue mario" sign, dreams are weird man (i'm just playing that area is actually in the game lol)
Most of the scares are ok, the only kinda cheap ones are the toad amalgam ones since its just "weird thing right in your face" + loud noise/music sting.
imma be a nerd for a minute (edit: found a faster way.) 6:39 there's actually another way to get here (you need the vanish cap switch to be turned on though): toad's lobby => left door at statue, keep straight and take the pipe to bowser's domain (closest pipe to you) exit the room you end up in, when you reach the long hallway turn right and stay right, go into the door at the far back you'll end up in the challenge lobby (some single doors w/ paintings and also crumbling castle connection) and a brick wall will be in the place of a door going up to it triggers the "you get a bad feeling ..." text behind one of the single doors (i forget if it had a number and if so idk what it was) there will be a vanish cap box in the left corner break it, get the cap, and go through the brick wall, you end up in the fountain of truth
Oh, awesome! I always wondered the extent of how many little spooks/scares/other secrets were hidden away in v1.0, and it's cool that I found your video. I was more obsessed with scouring every inch of the castle that I had no idea there were encounters in levels too (Specifically the third and fourth shadow encounters).
I have a theory So you know how when you destroy the cubes the game crashes? Well i don't think mario dies but i think we kill the internal ai in the beta that was trying to escape because of the pain of the loneliness. I think every other horror rom hack is a part of the ai's internal plexus explaining why we can stumble upon them.😊
In my opinion creepypastas that are like "x-version of y-game" shouldn't just throw around stuff to make the game scary (hyper realistic blood, dismembered body parts etc.), That doesn't even fit with the original work's aesthetic, instead, it should be slow burn, things that make you feel "There's something wrong, but I don't know what" while making use of assets in game to work the horror, and this game nails it extremely well, even the most edited parts are still possible without adding new assets to the game (The blood in the corridor trap room, which is a still of the fire sprite, and the Amalgam, who's a Bully with Toad's texture.)
I want to add to this, i have played it myself and i have discovered things, that werent mentioned here, things like a corrupted peachs castle, ghost princess peach, eyeless peach painting, and peach calling out for mario in a completely silent hallway
There's actually another spot you can encounter Shadow Mario. This will spoil some of it so scroll down if you're interested: In what I dub the "glitch area" where the walls and floors are all distorted and misaligned, toward the lower end of that room near a door, there's a lone, dark painting in a corner. Jump in and you'll find the shadow forest. Shadow Mario will chase you there as well
shadow 3 scared the hell out of me when i first encountered it because i thought i simply was just plopped in another place after gettin the star, then he showed up
So, forgetting all the "spooky" jumpscares and all that for a second, what is the exact lore of B3313? The only "big" forms of content I've watched related to it was Joel's streams from a year ago, and a full playthrough from a year ago by VeloxusGaming. I don't know much about it other than it being heavily exploration based, and a mix of unique and beta content. This new (to me) increase of an analog horror style to it is completely new to me as well, I don't really know anything about its significance to this hack. I also read little snippets of the controversy around the hack, but I was too lazy to actually dig into it.
Essentially, the game bases itself on the classic creepypasta of "Every copy of Mario 64 is personalized". The idea is that the hack's version of Mario 64 has a Personalization AI built in it, and this AI, for some reason or another, started to create multiple iterations of the castle and its levels, rendering it almost infinite. The characters in the game try their best to adapt but it becomes increasingly difficult as the castle continuosly grows in size and secrets. It's why there's Toads scattered throughout the many halls (some of them faceless); they're lost. Bowser and his minions attempt to settle down in one of the deepest parts of the castle, since trying to conquer it at this point is impossible due to the castle's constant changes and increases in size. Princess Peach seems to have disappeared, and the few times she appears, it seems more like a fake version used as a taunt from the AI, or the AI creating a Peach to use as an avatar. Because the AI can create variations of the castle, its levels and characters (considering Luigi can be found in multiple instances either dead or being tortured, even though you can play as him), this means multiple creepypastas may actually exist inside the castle due to the AI's infinite variations of creating situations, like Mr. I's maze, L is Real, and many others. There are seemingly standout individuals and objects like the Shadowy Figure, Faceless Marios, Amalgam and the AI's Core, but their motivations are largely unknown. Some think they're manifestations of a demon using the Personalization AI to torment the brothers, but nobody really knows.
@@Michael-im1tr It's probably going to take me some time to process all of that, but I guess that makes sense. The only other thing that really confuses me is the seemingly possessed nature of it. Since there are texts you can read that kind of make it seem like some type of spirit is trapped inside the game. But, in theory, I guess it could also be this AI just being an asshole, basically.
The VHS filter is a nice touch but I wish you played in a 4:3 aspect ratio to help give it more authenticity. Maybe even go the extra mile and render the game in a 320 x 240 resolution in PJ64 (you can do it by checking an option that allows you to play in the N64's original resolution or by turning resolution scale on and setting it to 1x iirc) Anyways cool video and thanks for showing all of these off.
While the jumpscares didn't bother me, the feeling of being uncontrollably lost in the Castle did. I was planning on mapping out what I could on paper and making notes, but I was quick to abandon that and eventually got too umcomfortable. I did want to explore the really cool level designs, but I really struggled to find them. Reminds me all too much of annoying dreams where I'm navigating a sleepy version of a place I'm familiar with. Also brings to mind a lot of dreams I've had over the years of specific dream versions of games I grew up with. Hilariously, SM64 was never in that list. Trap #2 Caught me off guard, not because the eyeball was scary, but because I was expecting it to shoot Mario and it instead just. Gently approached him without his written consent. 10:41 Angy spidder
I dont know why, but static objects/models coming after you has always freaked me out. I can remeber being little and having nightmares way too often that were all normal, until some inanimate object started rushing toward me
I'm not sure I like the new direction of B3313. The old scares were effective because there were only 4 or 5 of them, and they were all pretty difficult to find. They were meant to be easter eggs more than anythings else. Adding a bunch of new ones cheapens the true horror of feeling alone in the castle because you're more likely to find this stuff earlier. Probably the only one I'd keep is the Lethal Lava Land painting scare because of how well it plays into the nostalgic terror that everyone has of that painting coming to life. Everything else feels too intentionally edgy.
Eel jumpscare in 0.7 was. better Unagis were are real Unagis (in newer versions these are just their models without any animations, while the real Unagis had their gigaleak model), there's wasn't a instant warp sound and one of the eels stays with you in there while you slowly drowning

3:27 this one scared the shit out of me while I was streaming cause I thought it would give me time to explore so I turned to OBS for a second before it caught me from the corner of my eye with the windows sfx.
Great video, I've missed a lot of jumpscare areas. You're missing one thing
I was playing this game 3 weeks ago late at night and I stumbled upon a large green question mark painting.
There's 2 versions of that place - the one you found (with the seizure warning signs) doesn't really have a jumpscare (and is at 9:45) but the other version does and is at 2:05
@@OrcaHedron ohhhhh word i was supposed to look for the box, thank you!
@@OrcaHedronwhat triggers the other locale? I keep ending up in the jump scare room
@@spencerdurette2859 Random I believe
yeah that area is nowhere in the game, there's a similar area that can be accessed through the magikoopa painting but nothing like this, never saw that "blue mario" sign, dreams are weird man
(i'm just playing that area is actually in the game lol)
Most of the scares are ok, the only kinda cheap ones are the toad amalgam ones since its just "weird thing right in your face" + loud noise/music sting.
NOOOOOOO MY SLOWBURN AMBIENT HORROR EXPERIENCE IS RUINED 🤓
the toad amalgam looks like a meme more than something out of horror
toad amalgam looks kinda like my uncle
I actually jumped the first time in the video. The second one I expected it
@@mugpup310The wiki says it's possibly referencing the BUP 64 romhack.
Wonderful work on this! I love to binge some B3313
the one with the lethal lava land jumpscare is cruel lmao
I like that Mario just says no when he dies instead of auuuugghhhhhh oof
ok the fire one is actually pretty good lol
imma be a nerd for a minute
(edit: found a faster way.)
6:39 there's actually another way to get here (you need the vanish cap switch to be turned on though):
toad's lobby => left door at statue, keep straight and take the pipe to bowser's domain (closest pipe to you)
exit the room you end up in, when you reach the long hallway turn right and stay right, go into the door at the far back
you'll end up in the challenge lobby (some single doors w/ paintings and also crumbling castle connection) and a brick wall will be in the place of a door
going up to it triggers the "you get a bad feeling ..." text
behind one of the single doors (i forget if it had a number and if so idk what it was) there will be a vanish cap box in the left corner
break it, get the cap, and go through the brick wall, you end up in the fountain of truth
1:00 Mf said "fuck this shit im out" 😭
Multiple stanleys
Oh, awesome! I always wondered the extent of how many little spooks/scares/other secrets were hidden away in v1.0, and it's cool that I found your video. I was more obsessed with scouring every inch of the castle that I had no idea there were encounters in levels too (Specifically the third and fourth shadow encounters).
4:23 Damn poor luigi
First he drowned and now being crushed poor guy can't catch a break
Bro got shoved into the hydraulic press
I have a theory
So you know how when you destroy the cubes the game crashes? Well i don't think mario dies but i think we kill the internal ai in the beta that was trying to escape because of the pain of the loneliness.
I think every other horror rom hack is a part of the ai's internal plexus explaining why we can stumble upon them.😊
This is my first time discovering any of this stuff…
And I’m so stunned, I legitimately don’t know what to make of it.
Honestly seeing what happened to me not on here makes me feel uneasy
In my opinion creepypastas that are like "x-version of y-game" shouldn't just throw around stuff to make the game scary (hyper realistic blood, dismembered body parts etc.), That doesn't even fit with the original work's aesthetic, instead, it should be slow burn, things that make you feel "There's something wrong, but I don't know what" while making use of assets in game to work the horror, and this game nails it extremely well, even the most edited parts are still possible without adding new assets to the game (The blood in the corridor trap room, which is a still of the fire sprite, and the Amalgam, who's a Bully with Toad's texture.)
tbh the amalgam looks more like a chuckya with bup textures
I want to add to this, i have played it myself and i have discovered things, that werent mentioned here, things like a corrupted peachs castle, ghost princess peach, eyeless peach painting, and peach calling out for mario in a completely silent hallway
The fire one caught me so off guard LOL it got me good, it was precisely what i was afraid of as a child
The lethal lava land face scared me 😂
0:41 mark makes mario have a panic attack and fucking die
0:54 ima need some context
4:33 bro Shadow got beef with Luigi
4:26 so that's why we don't see luigi anymore
0:16 Oh? You're approaching me? Instead of running away, you're coming right to me?"
i summon my stand, eel platinum
There's actually another spot you can encounter Shadow Mario. This will spoil some of it so scroll down if you're interested:
In what I dub the "glitch area" where the walls and floors are all distorted and misaligned, toward the lower end of that room near a door, there's a lone, dark painting in a corner. Jump in and you'll find the shadow forest. Shadow Mario will chase you there as well
The eel trap is straight from my childhood nightmares
11:57 haha I completely understand you, sometimes similar things happen to me
The sunflower-field-forest scare gives off major Slender Man vibes.
shadow 3 scared the hell out of me when i first encountered it because i thought i simply was just plopped in another place after gettin the star, then he showed up
the let me out toad was just funny to me. reminds me of playing an online 3d game with friends and getting stuck in a wall
7:42 Why is this area so detailed compared to everything else?
That's why that place gave me the creeps. It was detailed, spacious, dark, and had that ominous bowser statue standing right there.
I've been waiting for this. Thank you
I bet both of those outtakes left the guy saying "well shit"
your CRT shaders look amazing, which one do you use? O:
3:20 here the shadow is actully a long limbs mario
10:41 Angy spidder
mario: (meets the worst fate possible)
also mario: no D:
The most terrefiying, yet perfect masterpiece
I dont know why, but static objects/models coming after you has always freaked me out. I can remeber being little and having nightmares way too often that were all normal, until some inanimate object started rushing toward me
5:06 i almost had a seizure when shadow appeared
Random thought that the amalgam might be made out of the faces of those faceless toads
The fire one is scary as hell, I was terrified of it as a kid and I would barely even go into the level if I could help it
What's the lore on the shadow Mario's and the silent hill creature with corrupted toad textures?
The Toad creature is from another horror rom hack.
I had the fire one happen me last night and it scared the heck out of me!!
Can't wait for the updated version!

The only ones of these that genuinely got me were Trap 1 and Fire.
4:29 LUIGI NOO
I'm not sure I like the new direction of B3313. The old scares were effective because there were only 4 or 5 of them, and they were all pretty difficult to find. They were meant to be easter eggs more than anythings else. Adding a bunch of new ones cheapens the true horror of feeling alone in the castle because you're more likely to find this stuff earlier.
Probably the only one I'd keep is the Lethal Lava Land painting scare because of how well it plays into the nostalgic terror that everyone has of that painting coming to life. Everything else feels too intentionally edgy.
Thank you
Eel jumpscare in 0.7 was. better
Unagis were are real Unagis (in newer versions these are just their models without any animations, while the real Unagis had their gigaleak model), there's wasn't a instant warp sound and one of the eels stays with you in there while you slowly drowning
Trap 2, Fountain of Truth, and the LLL fire one i ran into on complete accident
with the crashes and cryptic nature, this reminds me a lot of Coronation Day and Yume Nikki
