This is one of those games where it feels like no matter what you do, no matter how far you explore, no matter how long you spend, you are forever trapped in the castle walls. The true paradox is when you are in an outside area, where are you exactly, are you truly outside? Even the game states that you are trapped inside its walls...
Kinda like how you can access normal castle grounds by jumping into the mini model of the castle, this game just blow's my mind.
And it feels like there is no way to end the game
This is actually some of the coolest shit. What makes it more unsettling is that it’s the characters you know too.
I know this is a copypasta, but I think it's a fitting statement about the hack. Bravo.

This is a fever dream version of super mario 64
the kind of nightmare you have as a kid after playing sm64 all day
Its funny how people complain about the ending when they forget we are the ending.
Ending 1. We choose to finally quit and stop playing the game to let the ai rest/ or destroy the core ending the game for good
Ending 2. continue to play the game and continue to put the ai in pain
This is my theory of what the entire point of this game is.
Precisely. I’m pretty sure B3133 was directly inspired by Super Mario 64 classified, which has the same idea.
@@Birtheater4545I knew it.. the levels hella similar to greenio's levels
I headcanon that two AIs are at play here, one that is basically Classified's AI and another one that actually is having fun, the former represented by faceless Mario and the latter by Shadow Mario. The Classified AI's core is located in AI Underground (despite that place being imaginary in Classified), and the shadow AI's is in the maze area, so it has a chance to send you to a troll version of that area

Honestly, dev drama aside the fact there’s no “definitive” final version of b3313 really takes b3313 as a work of art to the next level. The confusing feeling of trying to understand and comprehend b3313 now extends beyond the game itself, with information and guides written about the game being inaccurate and unlabeled about which version they are referring to; even trying to follow a guide for b3313 has been made part of the game experience, with many a wrong turn you can make!
I’ve always felt that games in this genre like Yume Nikki become very guide dependent which takes away the mystery and surprise at times, but the perfect solution to keep players on their toes has developed.
I hope some future game in this genre takes full advantage of this. It’s already disconcerting running into this for b3313, but we are at the precipice of whole new levels of terror. Imagine following a guide to reach one jumpscare only to run into another well before the final step to catch you off guard, or taking a turn following a guide only to end up on a one way trip to somewhere completely different and new and getting your fast travel turned off so you’re forced to explore, or following a text guide and making it to your destination only to watch footage of others following the same instructions you were and to see they went through an entirely different set of areas despite arriving at the same place.
It would be cool to see something similar to the Fun Level system in undertale but much more impactful. Also seems like a darn lot of work
B3313 to be scray.
As someone who fell for the Waluigi rumor back in the day, I had the stupidest smile seeing that secret area in the wall.
Deep down we wanted it to be true
The true ending is smashing the core and never playing this game again, as you finally freed the AI from making endless Super Mario 64 levels.
I loved these mods, because Mario 64 is very lonely because there is never an NPC and you feel out of nowhere that something out of place could happen, like going to another map or having an NPC appear that wants to kill you.
Well, that's what I think
Toads in the castle and Pink bob-ombs in the levels:
Where were people like you 5 years ago when SM64 was remembered for, y'know, being a good game? This "I always thought SM64 was creepy" stuff just appeared out of nowhere.
I have no idea what you're talking about, skinny, I only said that the game was lonely but I never said that it was a bad game and that it is a masterpiece, just because I thought that something bad could happen just because I felt the map for not having npc that Talk to you and have few enemies, plus it was played at night, so I had plenty of reasons to imagine ridiculous things.
I used the translator because I don't speak English @@De_an
@@De_an it can be both, It's early 3d it's a bit uncanny for people who didn't grow up with it. But it's also a well made game that pioneered 3d platformers that still holds up today.
I think the reason some people could find it creepy is just the emptiness, how it feels like there's less there since decking out 3d levels wasn't something anyone had ever done before. Another reason, maybe, is the sprites that always face you. Particularly with the pokeys, those things kinda feel like they're staring into your soul. I understand the reasons for these things, and I am in no way critiquing the masterpiece that is Super Mario 64, this is just some good old-fashioned hypothesizing.
Ngl the song in the ending at castle grounds goes so hard. I really like the atmosphere of the ending. So well done. I hope there are more creations by the people behind this. B3313 was incredible.

Ikr I like this ending too. You’d expect a satisfying ending…but that never happens in this type of game. You’re trapped in your own walls forever and your so called ending is replaced by more levels because that’s what you desire
Just found your vid on recommended, banger vid.
People care way too much about the stupid dev drama, and I don't know why it's not a complex drama both sides were in the wrong because, in reality, Mario games don't matter. I played both UA and Offical and both are fine rom hacks. I wish the shame shit was removed though.
I guess it's the unfortunate reality of today's culture where we automatically assume the worst of people without letting them even defend themselves. I don't really know the details of what happened, but I can infer that both sides are in the wrong, or at least that they didn't handle the situation like they should've.
This comment gives me hope as it's the antithesis of cancel culture. Instead of demonization, we entertain the idea that like all humans, people have disputes and are flawed.
chris was in the wrong for being an absolutely horrible toxic person to everyone in the dev team. I was in the wrong for not completely quitting even when money was offered.
@@benedani9580 and there we go... cancel culture buzz words
@@Luxembourgish why even bother typing that if you have literally 0 idea how the drama went? I'd suggest doing a little bit of research first. it's not hard to find what chris has done to the developers, the document is 1 search away. as one of the people affected I have a very good reason to be spreading awareness that you would understand if you didn't insist on being clueless on purpose.

I found another Final Bowser. I got to a different version by chance when I went into the first pipe after standing on Bowser's chair. I wasn't able to beat him because I died. My difficulty level is quite high at the moment but not too high to not beat the regular Final Bowser.

It does actually, smash the Core and never play the game again, let the AI rest.
Bowser sounds soo weird! He even sounds like a cat 🐱
Real ones know about that waluigi hole
17:16 right here, i wonder what's in the rest of the room
I knew that you could triple-jump to the 0th pipe. On a different note, what's up with the comments about stuff to do with the drama being put in the romhack?
i had knowledge of this hack after i saw the CLASSIFIED series made by Greenio, and i have to say this looks awsome and also a little disturbing
cool ending! Star roads music is so sad though lol
So reading the comments seems I'm not the only one who finds this underwhelming? Had 1.0 or 1.1 or whatever come out 2 years ago, when b3313 was at the peak of its popularity, it'd would have been cool, nowadays it's like meh whatever. First I'm hearing about dev drama but it makes sense, this project just fell apart and its noticeable in the complete lack of direction
Just like pikmin fortune these people can't get ahold of themselves
I think the lack of a satisfying ending is intentional. After all the aimless meandering you did through your "endless mario wonderland," did you expect a meaningful conclusion? No, here's some more stars, this is what you wanted.
I hate that the game builds up saving luigi ("where is he" "get me out" etc) and instead of building on that the added a lame spite-filled room to the back of the castle.
@@spyr0guyApparently, the leader of the team did want to put an actual ending but we know what happened.
@@spyr0guyturns out the ai is the main antagonist/victim in this romhack
Its been forced to pump out level slop and is in costant pain. Thats why it forces us to quit the game or destroy the core so it can rest.
Why has Bowser’s sound effects been switched with “big cat stock sound effect”?
Because this game is based on the beta version of SM64 where Mario and Bowser didn’t have proper voices yet
The Killer Luigi was actually so creepy.
Looks like you got the shorter Mario RNG lol.

This was it, this video exactly matches the dream I had 3 years ago when « L is real » was found on the N64
I don't know why, but I love the music in the game.
I like hiw things are slightly oversized
I kinda like how that whole decision makes you feel like the geometry is saying “You are quite small in this world, Jumpman,” …in a weird way.
7:33 That scream is definitely ripped from Looney Tunes
It's a stock sound effect from Warner Bros, probably a placeholder during the beta.
As far as I’m concerned, this will be worth playing once they patch out the dev drama shit.
Honestly? I agree with you.
B3313 is supposed to be a spooky adventure through a Mario 64 prototype, not some ventilation for subtly "shaming" real people.
Reprimand the player for exploring the game too much or something, not the devs who sought to branch out and tie up loose ends.
They included their drama in the game? Godamn it
I didn’t see it as related to any drama, though I don’t know of it.
Could anyone give the very basic gist on why “Shame” is a theme?

@@anklemannunlike these others, this one was supposed to have a actual plot before the drama
Is there any sort of TRUE ending after beating Star Road? Or is this it? Just endlessly stuck within the castle walls?
I don't think there is a *true* ending, unfortunately...
The "true ending" is to not launch the game. You can find and destroy the ai in this hack. Doing so crashes the game, setting you back to before you did so.
The true ending is realizing curiosity for curiosity's sake has led you around in circles. The "no ending" decision is the best one the hack could have made, especially considering how out-of-place the older plans felt.
-idk-
Yes. You’re trapped inside your own walls
There is no such thing as a true ending. Do you really expect a satisfying ending in an unsettling exploration game?
We can make the ending however by destroying the AI’s core which crashes the game
I think the name means Browser 33 stars 13 stars (where the 13 stars come from)
What SM64 a name Copyright or not copyright
Where do you find this?
I cant believe this can fit 64mb
.... I went there because i wasn't sure i reached the end.... Because i had the same end by going into the "Eternal Fort ( beta )" the first time... Now that i think about it, i kinda wonder how i managed to go to that beta map ?
The game made me feel complex emotions, as if i could see the collective consciousness of the whole Mario 64 community. It's really something that i never saw before. It's not meant to be all scary, it can be nostalgic, silly, surprising, melancholic and even challenging. I made a whole map by myself and it was a blast to make. Then i saw the "fake" ending and decided to finish the whole game at 100% by looking at the wiki and my notes... Was fun too ! Now, i have 450 stars and loved that long and unusual experience.
Fuck that level on the Silicon Graphics chipset though, wtf was that ?

@@impwolf found Chris's alt
Both versions have their own quirks.
Unabandoned is less penalizing than Official. A lot of crash sequences were replaced by simply losing a life which is far less painful because you don’t have to repetitively set up the minus lives over and over again. There’s more stars in Unabandoned, but I’m a bit neutral on star count since I find polish more valuable than quantity. Also, Unabandoned had a much easier way to access Star Road which was unnecessarily scrapped in the Official version: that means I have to refight Bowser all over again if for some reason I was booted past the ending. Also, the maze-like 4B is not in Unabandoned which is a plus.
Official had less stars but the levels I’ve been to has been substantially more polished. The ones that suffered from “My first level” syndrome were either touched-up or replaced by better levels. There are more levels and less stars in each: it makes it less painful if the level you warped to wasn’t from a painting and it immediately kicks you near the start upon either collecting a star or dying. There are less red coin stars than Unabandoned which I sometimes find to be a plus. There’s one less star in SGI INDY, the WORST level! Also, the Red Stars are found fighting bosses instead of “forbidden” places in the castle: also a neutral take.
I’ve beaten Unabandoned with *465 Stars and Official with 350. Reasons for not completing both of them are as follows.
Some stars in Unabandoned are completely inaccessible due to the game glitching out. One star that involves racing Koopa the Quick I cannot get because he never appears.
As for Official, after discovering the devs closed off the easier access to Star Road even after beating Eternal Fort, I decided to end it there. I’m not gonna be dependent on constantly save stating because I stepped “out of line” in such a random game that again, is real enthusiastic with crashing!
Edit: My apologies, I mistyped and I meant to say I collected *465* Stars in Unabandoned. This is actually another plus for that version. For some reason, there’s no proper “Star Map” in the Official version while the Unbandoned version you know which stars you do and don’t have in each level. Just having that feature at the start was a great motivator to get nearly all of the stars in that game.
Retroarch won't run it, even with the Parallel core. Wish I could play this. Sounds like a ride.

It takes some setup shenanigans to get it to work, I think, but Parallel launcher uses Retroarch anyway... should be no reason why it won't work

Um...
didn't Peach turn out to be the true Big Bad of B3313? Or wasn't she supposed to be?
It's all up to your interpretation. My theory is that all of the game is under control by a "Personalization AI" which screws with the inner workings of characters, levels, and even certain items.
As evidenced by "personalization values" which affect gameplay based on the player's actions, I like to think that the game itself is the main antagonist.
@@JakeTheVictini Well, in-universe, someone would have to have created the Personalization AI
