My speedrun of Ao Oni done in 17:37 in 7 segments.
Something important : (SPOILER)
The code in the piano room is random.
The code can be : 915/176/679... and others But I generally have them.
The code was 9761 so on the piano was written 176.
5376 is the jail code, it's always the same.
The code in the attic was 528.
The bookmark code is always the same again : 1237
The code of the paints is RYYBYR. Red;Yellow,Blue.
The pew code is Right, Left, Down left, Up left, Down ight, Up right.
The study room code is 3045.
At 15:20 The guy under the floor didn't appear when you moves along the wall.
No random Ao oni almost perfect run, some little mistakes like in the chapel.

To be fair, for some youtubers, its just that they dont know what the mechanics of the game are, or where anything is, hence why its a “playthrough,” with them playing through the game, without too much knowledge on the matter. Meanwhile, speedrunners spend countless hours making every second of their runs count, quite possibly spending more time in a game than youtubers. But yeah, there are a few cases where they just stretch the time for ads and shit.

I like that in some doors, the oni stops chasing you.
I like to think the oni has asthma, and takes 2 minutes to breathe before hearing him say “I have found the item ____” to chase him again.
I've never heard of this game but for a game made in 2004, around 18 years ago, it's incredibly complex and it really doesn't mean much but i think its really impressive

I remember to this day how scared I was, as a kid back 2010-12's, by seeing that scene where the Oni is locked up and you go close to the jail and that freaking thing holds the bars and shakes it. That scared the shit of me dunno why.

Ao Oni might look pretty dated today, with a mediocre plot and 90% stock RMXP assets, but I still think the design of the monster itself is great, the music is very fitting, and the interface screw at 17:12 is absolutely brilliant. You REALLY don't expect anything scary to happen when you open the pause menu. It's really clever.

Even if it is a bug it still freaks people out due to the fact that when you pull up the menu screen, your friend is an Oni, and you know you’re in danger and now you *have* to run.
This game is terrifying and im watching in 2024 this game is made a movie.
