    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Gary (Vince Vaughn) and Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) run into each other on the street and catch up in a civil manner.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
A once-loving Chicago couple whose happily-ever-after quickly turned into a never-again finds their crumbling romance complicated when both parties refuse to move out of the pair's recently purchased condo. The Break-Up is a romantic comedy that starts where all the others end. The future once looked promising for thirtysomething couple Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) and Gary (Vince Vaughn), but lately it seems like a series of increasingly petty and intolerable squabbles have snuffed any semblance of romance in their relationship. Their confrontation endlessly fueled by mean-spirited suggestions of revenge tactics from friends and family and their stubborn refusal to budge resulting in an excruciating stalemate, Brooke and Gary ultimately decide to spitefully stick it out as hostile roommates until the weaker party eventually admits defeat. As the competition to drive one another out grows increasingly intense and outrageous, however, Brooke eventually comes to the realization that she's not fighting for possession of the condominium as much as she is fighting to salvage her relationship with the man she once viewed as the love of her life.

@@_gabe_2407 because it ended for a reason. When a relationship ends the first time around, it’s usually going to end again and again any time after. It’s very sad, but people swear they can make it work, but it only adds to the literal pain and suffering. Because then you have new fights that happen because someone brings up the past, and it just gets even uglier.

This scene is trying to show how people act AFTER they break up and how they treat each other. If they acted that way towards each other while they were together they could have worked . They only treated each other nicely with respect and care after wards. Sad, but it happens all the time!

This ending was PERFECT. It allows the audience to see what they want to see. The hopeless romantic would see a reunion on the horizon whilst the cynic would be able to see them being respectful to one another and feel good that even after a messy breakup, human decency is possible.

@bosoxgirlie It's also ironic for Jennifer in real-life. For that this movie was filmed in 2005 while her divorce with Brad was either ongoing or had just been finalized. Not sure if you were old enough to remember ... with all the drama being shown in the MSM ... but Jennifer did share in an Oprah interview she had "moved on" from all of that. And you can see how she was channeling that 'moving on' in this scene.

I remember watching this movie when I was like 13 or 14 and I actually hated it because they didn't end up back together but now as a 29 year old adult, I realize why they didn't. Both had a lot of growing up to do especially Vince's character and this is how a real life breakup scenario would play out. This scene was closure in the end and still a happy ending even if they didn't get back together. Most couples wouldn't in real life. It shows what people go through in a real breakup and how in the end they are able to move on from the situation and remember the good times they had together even if they weren't each others person in the end.

There was a script but both Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn didn't like the feel of it so they decided to do it cold which is why when you really watch it, you know its true. This is a very happy ending. I really like it that they didn't turn the ending into some stupid silly unrealistic scene where everyone lives happily ever after. Its implied that they get back together and have a better relationship than before. This ending left the door open and its up the the viewers imaginations to figure out if they get back together or not. Although, it is heavily implied that they do (both smiling at each other with that awesome soundtrack).

We awkwardly exchanged phone numbers with the ceremonious promises to get together real soon. That was almost 30yrs ago. I think this ending was very much about reconciliation. They broke up, they went out into the world and changed and became new people. Then, when they saw each other again, they realised that the feelings were still there. But this time, there was potential for something more. Something better, because they had both changed enough to make way for an entirely new relationship with each other.
That's why they seem so excited to make plans with each other and why they look back, because they can feel something good is going to happen and that they're both ready for it now.

This exact same situation happened to me a year ago. I'd broken off my engagement with my fiance and went through a very painful heartbreak. I constantly wished to bump into him again and just thank him for everything even if we'd never end up together again. I felt like my soul needed that. After that breakup, my life changed for the better. I got a new great job, met my business partner and began producing my own musical. Through all that confusion and pain, i found peace and clarity. I became much stronger, wiser, kinder and even (to my wildest imagination) much happier! Half a year later, i saw him on the street when i was in the taxi. Then in Christmas, on my home on the Subway, the doors of the wagon open and i walk right in, only to meet him right in front of me. We met each other with such genuine smiles just like in this movie scene. It was clear that all the hurt and bitterness had finally left our hearts. All what was left was kindness, care and respect for each other. He walked me back home. On the way, we chatted for a while, interested to ask questions. In the end, we hugged each other, happy to know that we're both in a good place in our lives and sincerely wished each other the best! We both turned around and walked away from each other and back into our individual lives. There was no pain or resentment. There was peace and a deeper understanding that this was how it was supposed to be and we were thankful to each other for the love shared and lessons learned. This goodbye was a gateway to better lives and even greater happiness. There was goodness in this goodbye. And then i realised that our hearts are capable of much more than what we give them credit for. Our hearts can forgive, heal and love beyond any limitations.

I think the scene revealed the guy having not moved on as he knew about her trip etc. He felt he made a big mistake and it shows by the way he spoke to her and noticed the minutest of things like her hair which he completely took for granted before.
The girl on the other hand feels content with her life but is happy to see him and how he did take her advice on losing a little bit of weight.
Ego is the biggest killer in 99% of relationships that do not succeed.

+Eyes Speak ”I think the scene revealed the guy having not moved on as he knew about her trip etc.”
”he noticed the minutest of things like her hair..”
You make him sound out to be this man who made a huge mistake and just in that moment when he meets her again realises that he had made a huge mistake, or at least that is what I gathered from your comment.
You said that you think that he did not move on as he knew about her trip, but what about her knowing about his tourism boat that he finally made happen, which used to be his big plan when they were still in a relationship? It seems like she also did not move on then, right?
And she also immidiately noticed he lost some weight which also could be a ’minutest’ thing just like your comment about him noticing her hair. That could be subjective though, but you get the point.
In the end, they showed that they really do still care for each other. The time they spent away from each other and then meeting up again just brought back all the feelings and emotions they have to one another, and love is such a strong emotion it can not just be looked past like that. They had a deep and serious relationship, love and affection which will always be something that was between them.

neither moved on. Even though she was away, she still noted his boat, something he accomplished while she was away. And since they weren't speaking, we can assume that she's either asked about him or checked in on him from time to time. They're both content and happy with where they are. If they never ran into eachother, she may have just shown up one day at his boat and we would have gotten this scene there instead.

He should’ve given her more effort especially since all she was asking for was the bare minimum. Sometimes it really does take losing someone you love for you to step up. It was well deserved. He introduced his wife to me but he didn't mention my name to her. I had to say it so it wouldn't be awkward. I was actually happy to see him again like seeing an old friend, that was until I saw the bewildered look on his face. Maybe he wanted to pretend we didn't see each other. she was very kind and generous in this scene after the way he treated her. shes confident and strong while he knows he messed up. first time we see him actually asking about her.

I appreciate the realism of this situation being the ending instead of a disney type of happy ending =)
