Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лют 2023
- One of the guitarists of "little-known" jazz-fusion outfit Snarky Puppy, Mark Lettieri, joins the guys on this episode of Dipped in Tone. They talk scheduling committed creative time for songwriting, Lettieri's basic preferences on setting up baritone tones, and how he approaches dirt as a mostly clean player.

Mark does have a point. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to include a requirement for a quick 10/15/30 second clip of the rig being used so that everyone can get an idea of what is trying to be achieved
I want to see that too but I imagine 90% of the submissions would sound terrible..
I don’t think most people have the right equipment or experience to get a quality recording
I does sound good but if you think about for a little while then you might see how it would just open up whomever submits a rig to personal attacks. I can see lots of "why do they have a $500 pedal X when they can't even play blah. . ." or, "they are so lame they should be playing through a Line 6 pod instead of a Soldano 30." It's inviting abuse, not intentionally, but it would end up there. Most of the comments on YT videos are a trash fest but the creators sort of know what to expect going in. Someone looking for an unbiased opinion of their gear choices might not be cool with having to put themselves in the spotlight for that opinion. Compound that with getting a good, usable video or audio clip and it makes things even more complicated. This is just my opinion of course, YMMV, but as it is, it's a fun mostly harmless segment and I'd hate to see it turn ugly.
I love how Mark *MY FRIEND* 'ed him back as a sweet revenge for the switch situation earlier.
I always love the banter of this show, but I would move the rig dipping to the end of each episode after everyone gets a good feel for each other. Having at the top can sometimes seem clunky. Still love the show and I love how Zach knows exactly how to press Rhett's buttons lol
For those following, his New Wave chorus from Jackson Audio is analog bucket brigade, with digital controls.
This is great! Mark is a monster player and such a nice, articulate guy.... He and Greg Koch are my two favorite "new to me" guitarists so I'm super-grateful for your videos
Saw Mark at the Open Chord in Knoxville with Andy Wood last year, then a few months later at the Guitar Workshop Plus in San Diego, and I'll see him again at Andy Wood's Woodshed Guitar Experience in August. Remarkably good player and a nice approachable guy.
Sorry Rhett but the Zach rig is where it’s at ;)
By far
A friend of mine has that blackstone pedal. It’s no joke man, I love it
DANG IT! Mark is one of my favorite players and I’ve seen Snarky four times and have yet to see him play with them. I am seeing them again in April apparently RIGHT before he joins them on the road 😣 someday! Loved this interview!
Rhett you should always have at least one mythos on every board...that'd be a sweet lifelong tribute to your friend and would be a cool stand-up thing to do.🤘😁...good luck in Europe Rhett! 🎸🤘
Rhett's signoff has had me laughing all day. I appreciate that.
For those who are flying with music equipment, if you are looking at the actual plane to see if you will have enough space for your gear, any of the following will likely have enough space (assuming you get on early enough to actually use the space):
Boeing 737
Boeing 777
Boeing 787
Boeing 767
Airbus A319
Airbus A320
Airbus A321
Airbus A350
Airbus A330
Airbus A380
If you see Embraer, Bombardier, or the Airbus A220 then it is going to be one of the “small,” regional jets likely in a 2x2 configuration with much smaller overhead space
I would definitely pay to see Snarky Puppy 9 minute jazz odysseys.
Here's a thought, you guys dip rigs and it's really interesting! Have you considered doing a dipping a mix? I think it would be a cool idea. Love the show guys. Much love from Nashville
I’d love to see that
The Rivera Champ you are talking about is likely the early 80's SuperChamp. Two 6V6 output.
I have one that I scored on EBay years ago and it is great!
it is bucket brigade and controlled by an arduino! but the signal path is entirely analog. I worked on it :)
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you for th opportunity to win some gear that would serve us well.
Next Mark Letteri Album: "Phone Nuggets"
I wonder if there was a side trip planned to Guildford for a Captain Meets episode and a nice long jam with Danish Pete?
`Cuz that would be a very cool thing to watch. . . Just sayin'.
I hear Mick from TPS is sitting in for Rhett next week ?
Based on the Gretsch site, it looks like they’re still making the Electromatics. Which are fantastic.
Where would I send a photo of my rig for a tone analysis? 🙂
Tell Mark to come to Maine and play, he'd sell out the Maine State Theatre. Wong is coming, they should work together more!
Roofman, come together with your tiles. Slate me, held together with your nails.
I have a Behringer Ultra Chorus. It's yellow
Feel a multiple of Hephaestus pedals should be called "Hephers."
Roof Maaan
Lay the shingles with your haaands
"Jackson Audio is excited to announce the release of the NEW WAVE, a stereo, 100% analog chorus/vibrato pedal that uses real MN3007 BBD chips and a digital microprocessor for precise control, presets, and midi."
On United I ask the flight attendants to put my guitar in a closet (1st class or crew), I've never had a 'no'. Granted I don't fly with instruments nearly as much as you guys do...
Can sweetwater get nick jonas on dipped in tone??? I can smell the awkward already 😍
What a lovely man.
I will never sound like Mark, but I have bought more gear just because of him (and been happier with it) than because of any other artist. :D
His J Rockett Melody is a wonderful thing and EVERY time I step on my Sub'n'up I start grinning. Totally Mark's fault...
I feel like with squiers, nobody takes into account that some people simply don't want squier on the headstock lol. Zach's rig is way cooler
the problem with the Rivera era Fender amps is they took Rivera's great designs, and implemented them poorly
first
Fun fact: The reason why the phrase "salt of the earth" sounds oddly biblical is because it is biblical. It comes from Matthew 5:13. Jesus is talking to laborers, fishermen, etc. The kind of people that we would call "blue collar" these days, and he says "You are the salt of the earth". Today we take salt for granted. You can waltz into any grocery store and buy salt cheap. In ancient times it was a luxury, and it was useful both as a spice, but also for preserving meat by turning it into jerky, and it was hard to get. So when Jesus said "You are the salt of the earth" he meant "You are valuable. You are important. You are the bedrock of humanity." This was at a time of the class system where commoners were made to feel lesser than, so being told they were important was a big deal.
The "of the earth" part of the phrase comes from the fact that there's 2 kinds of salt (from the perspective of an ancient person). Salt of the earth and salt of the sea (salt water). Salt water wasn't useful to the ancients because water desalination technology didn't exist yet. So the only useful salt was "salt of the earth".
