BRAZIL'S "NATURALY EUROPEAN" AND MOST CHARMING DESTINATION

- This is not your normal van life travel spot. Gramado is nothing you would expect to find in Brazil, with an upscale European mountain retreat feel. Delicious chocolate, delectable cuisine, beautiful scenery and architecture, local Brazilian specialties and international shopping and venues abound making this a favorite destination to many Brazilians and one of the most recommended destinations. Without further adieu, this is Gramado from the perspective of a couple of American travelers exploring Brazil in a van or as they call it in Brazil, "motorhome".
Cheers

I think it's very important for people from abroad to know that Brazil isn't just about Rio de Janeiro, beaches and the Amazon Rainforest, there are also many incredible places to visit here. Brazil is a very big country!
You guys are great and have been watching your channel since your first trip to Brazil. I am a American who has lived in brazil for more than 15 years and love the south of brazil. From Gramado you should visit Florinapolis and Curitiba. Highly recommend taking a day trip on the train from Curitiba through the mountains, beautiful scenery. Safe travels and will be watching more.
If the weather is nice the views taking the train from Curitiba to Morretes is just spectacular👍👍
Hey, did you visited Minas Gerais when you were in Brazil?
What a wonderful town! Everything looked amazing.
I would have a hard time passing by all that chocolate and the bread there looked soooo good.
What a treat!
@@Edgar2023ESThe people who hate Carnival are those with inferiority syndrome, who either don't have money to go to Carnival or think they are Europeans. Carnival is cultural in our country, favelas are a reality, most cities in Brazil have peripheral areas that are the same or similar to favelas, which we call peripheries. Brazil is a beautiful country but also UNEQUAL.
The trees are called Araucaria. It is a kind of pine tree and the `cones` (they are more like ball shaped) are edible. You can eat the seeds it tastes good.
And they date from pre-historic era.
Araucarias aren't pine trees and they are different species.
@@ajgimach4930 I know all those things the taxonomy kids tell these days, but I am oldschool man. In the book I read 30 years ago they were pine trees. I also believe pluto is a planet and pharmacy is written with a ph instead of just f.👴

This year the winter was atypical. The hottest in history, it was almost not cold. They say it's El Niño's fault. But Gramado is always a cold city, and it usually snows in winter.
It was warm when we were there... I should have worn a short sleeve shirt that day! Lots of hot weather all around the world right now!
True Snow, it's been warmer this winter here in New Zealand. But lots of rain.
@@SnowAndCurtÉ verdade. Muito estranho o inverno este ano.

The Portuguese people are ALSO EUROPEANS, by the way! Everybody talks in a way as if they were not, lol.... Great video!!! Have fun! P.S. You missed out the great waterfall park in Canela. Canela has many outdoorsy stuff to do.
So true!
Portuguese fan over here...yep, we are European too! The most western country in Europe...Loved the video! Gramado é uma cidade LINDA!🥰
Maybe it’s because Portuguese aren’t “NATURALLY” European.
If you’re born in Brasil 🇧🇷 you’re brasileiro, Brazilian... not Portuguese... our language is called Portuguese... actually the only South American country that speaks other language than Spanish.
@@slippery_slobberhahahaha. What do you mean by that? What a funny comment.
What a lovely town Gramato was and being of German heritage I love anything Bavarian. You both look well.

Nature awaits you in the state of Minas Gerais! Beautiful landscapes, exuberant fauna and flora, beautiful waterfalls and several adventure destinations. Great to see you enjoying Brazil, you are always welcome!
Beautiful, chocolate, gorgeous stores/shops galore, flowers, food, food, food!!!!! This Bolivia/German feel area of Brazil was totally unexpected! So delightful! Thank you for sharing! Blessings, Jojo

@@annabecker777 my mistake. My stupid smart phone changed my words. So sorry for the confusion. I meant to say Bavarian/German Alps comparison for the beauty of he Alps region in Germany to the beauty of the Brazilian landscape. Not comparing the economy or GDP or anything political. Just beauty of the landscape. Nothing against Brazil or Bolivia for that matter.. wasn’t even referring to the economy or rating of human development of either place. I do understand that Gramado probably wouldn't have been your first choice of places to visit, but thank you so much for going and sharing. It reminds me, somewhat, of a town in Morocco that looks like a German town that I visited years ago. It's always fun seeing how "the other half" live and enjoy life. Love from London, ON 🇨🇦
There's a big difference between a German town in Morocco and a German town in Brazil, where 15 Million citizens have German ancestry.
What a Beautiful City! And the chocolate, oh my..
Thanks for sharing, Blessings
The church was so beautiful!! I loved the intricate statues of the disciples, and all of that chocolate...looks like Heaven on earth to me. Thank you as always for taking us along. Godspeed, Snow & Curt.
Loved that Texas is is big in Brazil ! That is a really nice city,I would defiantly go there if I went to Brazil.
A lot of brazilians are going to Gramado in this winter, but its kind of a bummer that due to El Nino, this 2023 winter will never get much cold.
It's great to see you discovering the beauties of Gramado and Canela
We are glad you enjoyed the video @CHARLYPOA!
@@SnowAndCurt Thank you i never loose any video..
We are experiencing a very hot winter in Argentina so I can imagine in Brasil is warmer
It's raining and cold again HAHAHA... everything changes in single day when the south air comes...
I'm so happy that you guys are in Brazil 😍😍😍
Putz,... heavy rains in the south... I hope they ar ok! Can't wait for the next chapter!
Isn’t it interesting that Gramado is so popular! It IS unique and if you like shopping…. Thanks for doing the tourist thing for us! Loved seeing the church.
In Rio Grande do Sul, most cities are Italian or German
I knew when I saw the title that it would not really be your cup of tea as you like more off the beaten path places. Gramado has become a sort of disneyland but since we don't have many places in Brazil with such an organized tourism, people love going there, it is an easy travel destination. But there are many beautiful places on the hills with lots of nature that you would just love.
Oh what a lovely town. Looked like there were so many temptations 😋
There is a native pine named Araucaria there. We eat the seeds which is called Pinhão. You must try it! You won’t be able to eat anywhere else. Ask someone. It is like a pine nut but much bigger and the taste is very different. Enjoy the winter there 😘❤️
What a wonderful place so much to see and all so amazing!!
The chocolate shop would be my dream place 😋 ❤
Gramado is right up my alley! Loved that town . But with all the exceptional foods I would be rolling out of town. It looked like a romantic destination
Plenty of places for photo ops. Beautiful surroundings and Hydrangea are my absolute fav. Thanks so much Curt and Snow. Happy you got some new sneakers there as well. Stage safe. See you next time.❤
I'm afraid if I'd been with you at the chocolate store I wouldn't want to leave. I'm a serious chocoholic. 😊 Amazing all the things they made out of chocolate. Thank you for the tour.
Wow! The food and drink presentation is amazing! Everything looked, and I’ll bet, smelled soooo good! That was really fun to tour with you. Thank you for a delightful morning🤗👍👍🍫 🍩 chocolate rules!!
You missed Lago Negro (black lake) surrounded by Araucarias and Pine trees brought from Black Forest in Germany.
The most typical food of the area is Cafe Colonial.
Although very touristy and European themed, there are many features of the local culture - the gaucho culture - such as BBQ (churrasco gaúcho), chimarrão / mate, the sheepskin are from local farms, as well as the cheese, sausages , jams, dolce de leche. The food is great because is fresh, it does not have to travel long distance to get there. Even the horn that guy blew for you is sourced locally.
We thought about doing the cafe colonial... but not with my heart healthy diet! LOL --- and we almost did black lake, but there is so much to see in Brazil and we have such a short amount of time!
What a beautiful city... thanks for sharing 👍💯🤗
We have a cute little town like that here in Washington State, but on a much smaller scale. Leavenworth is a nice little Bavarian themed town in the Cascade mountains. Now that I've seen the one in Brazil, I would love to visit.
@throttle4593. Yes, Our daughter lives in Washington state and they've taken me to Leavenworth two times when I've visited them, At least once was during the winter. Beautiful town to see, everything Bavarian.
@@Donna-zc9ii It's really nice to visit.
you just forgot to visit Canela, that has good stuff to visit also.
Nearby there's other themed cities as Bento Gonçalves, the wine city; Garibaldi, the sparkling wine city; Carlos Barbosa, the tool city (home of Tramontina tools and metal appliances); Nova Petropolis, tennis and sweater city (where you could find a shoe your size as they have a big factory outlet there).
but as you probably were in that direction on the end of the video, you probably took a very rocky way to reach BR-101 at the end of RS state.
Good travel!
Hi, Snow and Curt! I’m from Brazil and I’m following your adventures for a while now. Happy to see you around our country again 😊! I’m from São Paulo but I used to live in Porto Alegre so I visited Gramado many times. It’s like you said, Snow: it’s a nice place but not for a long time, and yes, it’s too touristy. If you guys decided to stop by São Paulo, be sure to visit a place called “Casa Eurico”. It’s a shoe store specialized in bigger sizes and the good thing is that they have a nice variety of models to choose from. I’m sure Curt will find something that fits his criteria there. I have a friend who wears size 12/12.5 and he always shop there. Be safe and have a nice trip around Brazil! P.S.: I have two cats, Atari and Felix, and they’re saying hi too 😊
I just found your channel a few months ago and absolutely love it. The two of you are such gentle loving souls thank you so much for sharing parts of your life with us😀
Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel!!
IF I were you, I would find a way to go to Pomerode. It's near Blumenau and It's a wonderful small German city❤
Oh gosh i just left Gramado last week during my vacation... I wish i could have met you guys 😭
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I enjoyed this video so much! One of the best I’ve seen! I sure appreciate you guys showing us Granado! It was so much fun!
It's a very beautiful town.Thank you for sharing your travels to places I would never visit.I live in Goa India which was also ruled by the Portuguese until 1961.
❤️ thank you for sharing this beautiful town. I get to live a dream of mine through y’all. Thank you so much, Love y’all.

Awesome, exciting and wonderful ❤❤❤❤ also on my bucket lists 🎉🎉🎉 thanks for a lovely tour 😂😂
Now you need to go to any vine industry, like Aurora in Bento Gonçalves (a city nearby). There’s a free tour there and you don’t need to book in advance. In the end you can drink some vine for free and you can also buy some bottles if you want.
And then, visit the “Serra Catarinense” and “Serra do Rio do Rastro”. It’s an amazing amazing trip.
Buffets are good and cheap option, but since you're travelling to across a lot of states I do advise you guys on some days on each state to try the "local food", each state in Brazil has a strong and unique culture towards its culinary, and usually have at least one food that is very famous from that place.
Thanks for the tips!
HA HA HA
I agree while places like Gramado and Campos do Jordao (a Swiss themed town) are nice enough they have a slightly artificial feel about them, historic towns like Paray and Ouro Preto are touristy in their own way but feels much more authentic. That being said they can be well worth a visit just to experience a full on Brazilian vacation destination.
@@user-jq4lx4iv1s9 Campos do Jordão is definitely not an old town in comparison to Paraty or Ouro Preto and Gramado became a city less than 100 years ago…
At minute 13:00 you were in a chocolate store called Lugano ... if you manage to hit Switzerland in your European touring, try to visit the town of Lugano near the Italian border - it is quite lovely (not so much about chocolate though LOL)
Good morning... Love watching you and Curt ...
Gorgeous city!
We are glad you enjoyed the video @BrandyLMilton!
Hi Curt, for shoes size 12, I think it's 44, 45 in Brasil, there are big size shoe shops. In Curitiba I know 2. One is in the old center, called Masiero, and the other is in Santa Felicidade called Antonia Rocha Calçados.
Great footage of Gramado a place unfortunately that I’ll never visit. Now I feel like I’ve been there. What an adorable town and it appears that it has something for everyone. Ohhhhh the chocolate, I could get stuck in that shop! Great travels and can’t wait to see where you go next. Rio de Janeiro will be a great destination and I’m excited for “our” visit! Keep up the good work with your videos! Travel healthy and safe! 🚐❤️👍🐈🐈⬛
Chocolate Shop omg that was incredible, thanks for checking that out!! Loving Gramado so far what a thrill you both are experiencing! They have sheep skin rugs on many chairs, very cosy!! So many chocolate & cake shops very tempting!!! Safe travelling! 💜💙
Realmente, que passeio incrível, vale apena conhecer ❤

Good morning Snow and Curt 🌞 What an interesting place and the history, we always learn lots while being entertained 😊
Curt I'm with you, I'd weigh a ton, if I lived near that restaurant. Good thing your home is in wheels 🥴 Snow, your salad was insane. It was huge! My favourite Italian soda is Blood Orange, so good and not sweet.
Btw, that garage did fantastic work on your van. I know what they did under the rig is more important, but the storage box and spare tire case look amazing! Safe travels, 🤗🇨🇦
What a gorgeous city. It does seem to be pretty upscale. And the chocolate and other treats look scrumptious and dangerous!!
I had to get out of there... who can say NO to all of theat sweetness!
@@SnowAndCurt - I know I can’t!!
You should try to eat the pines of "monkey trees". It is called "Pinhão" and it is very tasty, toasted or boiled. Eat with "Colonial" cheese.
Thanks for visiting Gramado ! I was there for last Christmas! The decoration was awesome ! It looked like Santa Claus had puked all over !
That has to be the most beautiful salad I have ever seen. US restaurants take note.
This is a town I’ve always wanted to see, thanks for showing us around!

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS lil town thank you for sharing safe travels Blessed Be
Loved every second of this vlog. Oh boy! I would walk out of that chocolate/sweet shop loaded with goodies! Wouldn’t know what to choose 😅
Thanks for sharing it was beautiful
You missed the chance to visit A HUGE GORGEOUS WATERFALL THERE, one of Brazil’s most famous sights, The Caracol in Canela, next town, It even has Gondolas for nature and falls sightseeing.
I have a very similar clock to the one sampled in the store. I spent nearly 2 hours looking at the different clocks in the Black Forrest area of Germany deciding which one to get. ❤️
Thanks for sharing beautiful town 👍
You guys are amazing at showing an amazing city on an amazing day all this to make an amazing video.
Enjoyed the tour of Gramado. We were just in Campinas and Rio a couple weeks ago. Love the "winter" weather in Brazil. Beware of scorpions, one of which we encountered on the outside patio of our Airbnb in Campinas.
Did you enjoy your stay in Campinas? Is it worth it visiting?

I haven’t lol that much in a long time. Thank you for sharing that fun waterfall ride with me.
Gramado is amazing loved the church 👍😉

Middle of the warmest winter of the past 50 years
Beautiful Gramado
Rio de Janeiro is great but Paraty is a must, a town from colonization time, its in the nature and plenty of great places to park your van.
Gramado reminds me of Frankenmuth Michigan. Frankenmuth is gorgeous although much smaller.
Generally in the months of June it is very cold and snow falls. But this year was hot.

That was very interesting, thanks for the history as well! The food looked absolutely gorgeous and I could almost smell the chocolate! Wow!! Amazing place. A little different from what we're accustomed to from you guys. But still beaautiful. My next stop will definitely be Brazil and Gramado.
One question, what's with the sheep throws on chairs?
The state is has many sheep farms, lamb meat is one of the favourite of gauchos barbecue. The sub product is the sheepskin - used for wool and for chair throws. Also for arts and crafts.
My grandma had duvets made of sheep wool, they were really warm but really heavy.
What a shame, i was in Gramado last weekend. It would've been so nice to meet you guys in person.
Anyways, that city is absolutely amazing, enjoy!!
My American nephew has clown feet too! 😂I remember as a child being in the Black Forrest and mum selecting a cuckoo clock which was placed on a wall until my parents downsized on retirement. I love Gramado, so cute - I hope to spend at least a year in Brazil in the not too distant future! Fabulous video as always, love you two, Snow & Big Foot!
LOL!!
That’s ok Curt. Our grandson wears a 13 and has the same problem. Love the video!
Curt, we feel your pain. My son wears size 15.5 shoes in Wide. Have to special order.
My husband is a size 13 narrow. Special order.
You are in the land of SHOES, Gramado is surrounded by shoe factory towns, good quality shoes - made locally. Igrejinha, few kilometres south of Gramado has many shoe outlet stores.
Thank you for show casing Gramado. It does look just like a European city with all its glamour and high end shops. The chocolate looks amazing as did the meals you ate. I know it’s not your usual style, but it’s nice to digress every now and then. Roll on the next place ❤
A really cute city! How was pricing there vs the US and also vs other parts of Brazil? I know you have mentioned other parts of South America are pretty affordable. We found the UK to be a bit more expensive (Scandinavia even moreso) but France, Germany, etc. felt more in line with US prices. Still, there is SO much to do and see - lots that's free! - no matter where you go and so much nature. Those Swiss seniors have been hiking the Alps for forever. Safe travels!
Gramado is a very expensive city, with very expensive food and experiences 😅 I'm Brazilian, so I can just compare to other places in Brazil. I have family there. It's expensive because it's very touristic.
But I must say, it's a delicious experience to go to the attractions in Gramado and the food is great
