I've been diggin' on these guys since day 1 and they still give me chills. Not a single weak link in this band. What it must feel like to be a member of this 'super group'. This is the way it's supposed to be done kiddies.
RIP Rocco. You were one of a kind Pal and the funkiest bass player to walk the planet.
Rocco is the man so underrated there will never be another the best!!!!!!!!!
Let's sit right between Rocco and David Garibaldi and get some schoolin'.
It's crazy. When he's interviewed , he's like, embarrassed by the title Legend :) He just shrugs it off as if he himself doesn't get how influential, and unique he actually is! When he said in one interview in Australia - that he never practices - he finds it "boring" - I nearly fell off my chair!! I was like, Whoa! You're self taught - one of THE baddest cats to ever pick up a bass - you're in the funkiest, horn band ever - and you don't practice???....With that, he went from "Legend" to Bass God in my book! :) :)
I think I was like 12 when I first heard it when I turned on the radio... I didn't capture the name of the band... but only "so much oil"... and I've searched for the song for years! Then... somehow... I stumbled upon Napster and found it! I got to buy the album (someone bought it for me) for 25 guilders, say 12 Euros... Best buy ever! This song holds so many truths...
I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. These guys are local and I've seen them several times. I've enjoyed all of them. They're AMAZING!
A Great Artist and person who was always so kind toe as a fan.
Roger Smith puts on a clinic.
After all these years these guys are still fantastic, fresh, relevant and kickass ! Great singer, great band ! Long Live TOP !
You can't teach funk. You either got it or you haven't and these guys have it in abundance. Fantastic rhythm section. Wonderful brass and a singer who oozes class . Don't analyse it, don't try to understand it, just let it flow through you and feel feel feel the groove.
So tight, so hip, so relevant!!!
Roger Smith!!! What a sound... This man is brilliant!
(from hungary)
Larry Braggs! Lovin' him!
The incomparable Larry B on vocals!
phenomenal vocals, great song, great band
Larry Braggs is one of the best things to happen to TOP!!
Damn....that's some powerful stuff!!! It ain't easy to keep this stuff alive sometimes. God Bless them all for doin' it.
2022 and still blow the roof off..
I love this song. Audience is either all sitting, or they are just amazed by the brilliance of Tower of Power.
タワーオブタワーの曲で一番好きです!
Mr. ROGER SMITH world class heavyweight championship on Hammond organ I love you maynnn you are my mentor
grooving group T.O.P. shakin it up..
Lenny was THE MAN, but I give props to Larry Braggs. He is just plain bringin' it. These are my boys from Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, Soul Train and hundreds of hours wearing out vinyl!
TOP is the guideline to true funk in this world. I just can't say enough about how much talent this band has now and then. Seen them twice so far. I need to see them more. Garibaldi is the Funk Master on the Tubs.
Wow!! These guys are great. Usuing the vernacular of the 70's, they're " COLD BLOODED"
when music was real music!
Only T.O.P can sound just as good as they did 40 years ago. And yes, they still have it's original rhythm section, Prestia and Garibaldi.
Happy Silver Anniversary T.O.P!
This version is SMOKIN! DG is on fire!
This band just oozes class. With the lack of good jazz/R&B nowadays it's nice to see them still going. I think TOP are the best soul group there's ever been.
Such a great band !! Will love you forever !! POWER
Fenomenalna ekipa T. of Power, imam samo ovaj lp vinil via Trieste... koja vrimena... ❤️❤️❤️
My favorite singer they have had in years.......
I agree. I think musicians should get paid according to how much talent and skill they have and by the quality of the music. These guys would would be filthy rich.
That Garibaldi/Rocco-Prestia groove is unbelievable. Those guys are in the zone - big time.
this is just an amazing track... cant believe its taken me so long to discover it... the sax solo is fantastic.... there's only so much soul a track can have and this it close to bursting
Crazy good musicians that can play the hell out of their instruments--wow.
AWESOME
Great Song TOP
I listened to them in the 60's from a teenager and now
YIKES! IF WE DON'T GET OUT OF HERE SOON, THIS WHOLE PLACE lS GONNA BLOW!
one of there best songs for me...
great everything
The truth? 40 years later and we are still fretting about OPEC and others... what went around comes around. The late great TOWER OF POWER!!!
I have played this one. Trumpet. But I love Tom Politzer more and more! Great playing!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID GARIBALDI!
This shit is like a high speed train gone rogue! NO brakes!! Prestia & Garibaldi have got to be the tightest, funkiest drummer / bassist combo in the world. If there's two better - I've yet to hear 'em.....
Outstanding!! Thank you very much.
Now this is frickin great music
surley thier best!!!!! love it, love it, love it!!!
@NewestViewest Right on! Everybody is SOOOO into doing it yourself. That´s why there are so many sing songwriters nowadays.... But sooner or later we´ll come back to the real deal....
TOM POLITZER'S THE ABSOLUTE BEST TENOR SAX PLAYER I'VE EVER HEARD, IT'S NO WONDER HE'S PLAYING WITH THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD! T.O.P. JUST SAW THE BAND HERE IN HONOLULU THEY BURNED DOWN THE HOUSE, ALOHA & MAHALO, BEAR
Fantastic! Love that Hammond!
JUST THE GREATEST GROUP EVER!!!!! FUNKIEST....JUST ADD LENNY WILLIAMS!!!!
The incompable TOWER.......THEY R #1
if you are tired and need an pick-me-up this is the one to listen to - beats that coffee that you like
Organist Chester Thompson IS the band. Good to hear this lineup including him after so many lame versions of this legendary band.
Thanks you Mr Thompson.
Go Roger!!
I used to hear the original band in the 70s in the Bay Area. These guys have totally revived and even improved the sound, and the lead singer is the best yet!
It amazes me that in all of the TOP videos there are no closeups of Mr. Francis Rocco Prestia burning it up on electric bass. He's the balls of the band and yet not one camera drone thought of capturing the mad genius of finger style funk playing bass on camera?
Amen to your words
Francis is the man !!!
James Reed Lets pray for him.
ot only is this performance brutally fantastic, It's relevant to today's oil situation. It's Great!!
this is one of their best tubes...
Richard Elliott’s solo is kickass!!😎
Still Badazz!
Сумасшедшая групка!!! Торчу!!!
マジでカッコいいー!さいこぉー!
cool!!!
JUST THE GREATEST GROUP EVER!!!!! FUNKIEST....JUST ADD LENNY WILLIAMS!!!! THIS GUYS GREAT TOO!!
now its true i saw them back in 96 in orlando and it wasnt the same i knew.now with francis, bruce and garibaldi, this is rhe real tower of power, the organ player and the singer, are doing an excelent job welcome back
killer band and singer
Garibaldi/Prestia RULE! ... and let's hear it for Roger Smith! Awesome!
This singer is really hit and miss, but when he is on. KILLER!
Holy shit is that great!
Best Funkband :)
Amazing band and singer!
You, of course, are correct about David G. As I clicked to post, I saw I left him out. Strange, as I am a drummer, and he is so unique, I don't try to copy his "licks". I simply enjoy them.
Yeah. The bandleader,Emilio Castillo (tenor sax and vocals), the bass player Rocco Prestia and baritone sax player, Doc Kupka are ALL originals.
I fuckin love TOP
The Groove !
oh yeahhhhh
tee ohh PEEE. the bestest.
My constant fave band since early 70's. This song was their first I ever heard. I had the album, Urban Renewal, on 8-track! Thanks to them, I still know how it feels to be 23! Also have it on vinyl, cassette and on various CD'S. Try Doc's spin-off, especially "Soulful Kind of Love" from their latest CD "Bumped Up To First Class" by Strokeland Superband
Awesome....simply awesome...LB is the man....but he should sing the lyric "There's only so much oil in this earth, sooner than you think there's gonna be a heavy duty dearth..." on the last time around....
Folk music for the twentyfirst century..
great organ player
観にいきたかった…
The BADDEST !
It would be great to be able to play in a band like this.
これ好き!名曲 !!
#TowerofPower
Finally heard the original and mmmmmm
Love to breakdance on it!
@NewestViewest : AMEN....PREACH ON!!!!!!
Lindo!!!!
Bay Area Funk at it's best
the album this is from is URBAN RENEWAL ...great album!
Fucking great.
yah!!! dance man!!
Tenor saxophone solo is by Tom Politzer
this song came out in the 70's. do you think that perhaps everyone has known about the need for "alternate sources of power" for a while???
This aint Jazz, this is FUNK! :D
Big difference IMO.
@drummer3278 thats true.. i know most of the TOP stuff, all "generations", and i think THIS is the BEST "setting" (or how do you say that in english) they ever had. Larry Braggs on vocals is awesome!!!
long life to the ToP
@THEclimberclimber Prestia? Where would TOP be without his absolutely solid groove with Giribaldi...
Somebody needs to stop that oil leak,Man or that could be the end of Man
@NewestViewest I agree totally. Music should be played by artists who care about the soul not the all mighty dollar. It's what we feel inside that makes music so enjoyable, after all music is a movement not something to watch or computerize. Thanks for feeling the way that you do. Check out the Funkanauts on youtube.
Awesome funk at it's best!!!!!!!!!!!! Montreux home of Smoke on the Water....Deep Purple and TOP are awesome!!! ps:David Garibaldi rocks!!!!
Don't forget Rocco Prestia, "the women, children and the rhythm section first"
