In this New York City travel guide I give you a tour of Chelsea. Where to eat, what to do, and even a tour of an apartment in the area! Comment which neighborhood you want to see a tour of next!
I've said this multiple times about your videos, but you capture New York City unlike anyone else. I've been watching for years now and it hasn't changed. There is such cinematic romanticism to the way you capture it. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series. I hope you're enjoying your Sunday!
Watching New York Vlogs always makes me think of Christmas. It is the eternal Christmassy city.. Always looking forward to your joyful videos, Erik. Hope one day I get to visit NY.
Exactly, get out your comfort zone and experience how New Yorkers live and experience nyc through many different cultures. Not just pretty gentrified coffee shops
@@erikvanconover I'm glad you're going to do this. I've always wondered what the monthly cost of an apt is, aside from the actual cost of the apt itself.
Hi Adithya, I can help you there. I really like Erik’s video’s on the neighborhood. Renting vs Buying | Manhattan Real Estate For Sale ua-cam.com/video/A4HiGBtRr80/v-deo.html breaks down that exact question you were asking: I use a listing of mine at 160 East 22nd that’s asking $3.150M and compare buying it versus renting it, which would cost you about $13k per month.

Absolutely loved this video! I work in Chelsea and had no idea about all the galleries! I’d love to learn more about Tribeca or Greenwich Village next!
Your love for NY shows so much! We like to share what we love if we can, so it’s awesome to see how you’re thriving in your own way in the city that was meant for you :)
This made me so nostalgic of the days that I was a student in college and living in New York, it was the best experience of my life. New York in my heart....!!!
Love it. As someone who only goes to NYC for meetings. One of which is in Chelsea. These are great. I have a hard time of getting all that NYC has to offer out when I'm there because it's soooooo different than practically anywhere in FL. I feel like I only absorb the bad at times and not all the city has to offer.
I remember you well, in the Chelsea Hotel. 🎶 Apparently the Chelsea Hotel was once the tallest building in the area, or even in New York, and this neighborhood was named after it. Too bad it’s amazing Bohemian history is being demolished by big corps trying to make it a luxury hotel. Anyways, great video Erik! Been following you for almost 4 years now, you’ve grown so much 💕
Biggest advice for Chelsea: if you head down to Chelsea Market, go to Miznon. It's a Mediterranean restaurant, but they also have a bunch of completely unique dishes custom designed by this chef that put local foods into a Mediterranean style. They Folded Cheeseburger in a Pita is honestly the best burger in the city, and perhaps one of the greatest things I have ever eaten.
This is a great idea. As someone who is wanting to move to nyc, this is very interesting and informative. Please do Hells kitchen, kips bay/murray hill, east village, and financial district. These are the more “affordable” neighborhoods in manhattan where its possible to find a 1 br for 2-3k / month.
I hope you go, if you have not yet, to the others boroughs of NYC and not just Brooklyn. There is so much culture and life in Queens, the Bronx, staten Island that is never shown.
I have a couple of friends that live in New York, that were from the DMV area! With their opinions plus in "insider" views from Erik make me want to move to a bigger city!
Since I was a little girl New York has always been my dream... well 30 years later I finally get to experience it in June! I can't wait to spend an entire week there all by myself! I just followed you on my personal youtube but I've watched almost all your videos on my husband's youtube account! I am getting prepared from all your videos and crying over the super expensive apartments I will never own haha!
I ate avocado on toast with eggs and mushrooms today (but sans beet purée). I have a 1lb bag of whole pistachios. Total cost was $10.50 because the 1lb bag of pistachios is $9.49 by itself
I am so impressed with the editing, the informations and just how great this video is. I truly felt like I was visiting Chelsea. It's like you can never disappoint, Erik !
My Uncle and his partner Herbert lived in a Carriage House on 18th Street just off tenth Ave. This neighborhood has really changed in the last 60 years. Interesting though some of the apartments in the run down tenements in the neighborhood were amazing inside! Lots of really cool people lived there - memories --
Chelsea is the neighborhood where I was born and raised. My father was born in Chelsea in 1918. His father, born in 1866, lived a little further south, in what is now Soho, and later in the West Village, and finally Chelsea. My grandfather was the son of English (maternal) and Irish (paternal) immigrants, who arrived in America about a decade before the Civil War. Life in Chelsea was centered around the docks and numerous small factories and warehouses. In my father's youth it was largely, but not exclusively, Irish American, with people of Italian, black, Yugoslavian, German, Polish, WASP, Jewish, and Spaniard ancestry in the area. By my time there in the 1950s and 1960s, the docks died due to containerization, with shipping commerce largely moving to New Jersey. The small factories and warehouses declined for a number of reasons. White flight, caused by the closing of the docks and urban renewal projects, as well as increased crime, was evident, and the former Irish enclave became increasingly Puerto Rican. It is amazing to see the gentrification of what had been mostly a blue collar, working class neighborhood, with a few pockets of middle class residents in London Terrace and near the Episcopal seminary.
You're studio needs two things. A curtain pull back holder from the windows to let more light in. And a big mirror with a thick black frame leaning against the wall close to the window beside the sofa.
Hey Erick! I am a local here but I still enjoy learning more from your videos and your videos just make me happy about the fact that I am a New Yorker ! Would love to see Brooklyn neighborhoods and upper east side!
Hi, Erik, I'm from Russia, you know your youtube channel is grateful. I'm glad that one day I've found this platform and can watch this colorful coolest video now. Looking forward to your new video man
I ONLY LIKE THE UPPER EAST SIDE OF MANHATTAN. THAT IS THE * * * ONLY * * * NEIGHBORHOOD FOR ME, LIKE 77th STREET to 110th STREET. LOVE IT! JOY, JOY, JOY. Haven't been in Chelsea since December 2008 (moved from Flushing, NY--my Venus on the Midheaven AstroCartoGraphy angle, with Pluto and Uranus on the AC angles to Plano, TX, Saturn on the Descendant angle, end of January 2009). Thank you for allowing us to see Chelsea, now.

Love, Love New York City. I'm from New Hampshire and my daughter and I take the bus in several times a year. We usually browse up town or down town. Never really ventured out further. I've fallen into the Hop on and off bus tour trap. wasn't fond of it. I prefer walking. I am going to love this series .
Loved this. Please do keep this series coming! I’m not from New York, and I’ve heard of all these neighborhoods growing up (movies, tv, tourism, etc.). I’ve just never put the pieces of the New York puzzle together in my head (or ever really looked at a map of the city), so thanks for this cool overview of the city. Also before the internet attacks me, I’m relatively new to the channel, so I haven’t seen the city from the perspective of this channel yet.
