Hi, Aliucord developer here. We are still on v126021, which is the last stable version before Discord did the react native update (months ago). Our rewrite, AliucordRN is still in progress and will not be ready for release anytime soon. Albeit the chaos recently is only from the desktop mods as discord stripped module displayNames and exports for desktop Update: We do not plan on continuing AliucordRN and will remain supporting the old app

Not at all mandatory, just that you need a reason to use prefix commands now (using prefix isn't a reason). If you don't have that reason, you can always change your prefix to your bot's mention, because the bot will always get the content of messages that mention it. This was an important privacy change, because message content is by far the most sensitive data a bot can access (more so than presence and members), so it's great that only bots that need it to function (and have no alternate way of operating) can access such data, and not say, a fun bot.
Instead, it can issue warnings when sharing private information such as passwords on a server. For example, it gives you a warning when sharing your token. This would be much nicer. Users can transfer private information to each other via DM.
Are you talking about Discord doing that? Because they can't tell at all what might be a password, or whether any information a user shares is private. For the token part, it'd be nice for any Discord token (bot, user, oauth) to be removed, but that would also heavily increase the time it takes to send a message. And getting a system message or popup everytime I said something they think is sensitive, when I'm say, messaging in a server with all people I know IRL, would be very annoying. Besides, a lot of people also don't read popups and just click "OK", and then Discord has a problem when people start complaining in mass, even if those individuals are in the wrong. It's just much more practical and safe to lock it behind a privileged intent (they don't stop you from using prefix commands if you get the intent, you just need another valid reason). Application commands are also far better in terms of functionality, and unless you maintain your own library, it's not that difficult to implement. If you don't like change for the better, develop elsewhere.
for even more proof that discord didn't do this to 'sabotage' client mods, they also have to face some of these problems themselves, with a discord developer even requesting for a feature here (can't send the link rip), and mentioning the possibility of discord making a plugin to fix one of these issues (as they had previously done with babel) btw shoutout to all the devs, just from having to fix my one plugin, i can understand how much effort people would have to put in to fix their many massive plugins

Discord really kills entire scene, either custom clients devs or bot devs (yes bot devs also suffered from API changes), like last 6 weeks, a library that i use Discord.js pushing update atleast 20 times in that time frame, like thats kinda annoying you gotta update every weeks or so to avoid crashes. this makes me quit and EOT my bot, and i just move to website stuff.

It's the same for minecraft modded, minecraft doesn't have anything against modding but, updating the game every year and making performance changes and code changes for the better of the game does break easily old minecraft mods.
@@BigBuddyYo True, but you loose all support if you downgrade too far. Even though 1.12.2 has most of my favorite mods (that are discontinued btw), I couldn't get help if I wanted to. Things like this are why I don't like client mods and would rather an actual custom client, though I realize the obstacles that would come with that :') Imagine a more maintained, more visually appealing & officially endorsed Ripcord
That will definitely get you banned from discord, automating the login flow or using user tokens outside the official client is a huge no-no, for good reason
Maybe it might be a good idea to search for a platform that allows such things instead. Matrix is getting quite close to that but they are lacking some features like group calls and proper screen sharing.
@@izumemori bruh no one cares lightcord was a good example of a custom client, until it shut down of course but there’s things such as ripcord as OP said, along with things such as Armcord which runs VERY well and much faster due to the way it’s built. The default discord client is a hot dumpster fire and it runs so badly. “Big no-no” yeah so is selfbotting, but I do it anyway. No one gives a flying fuck if you’re not doing anything bad
@@Pandaptable You should care about it if you don't want your account to be hijacked. It gets infinitely harder to detect abuse if you allow self-bots and automated login flow. Not to mention the extra strain on the support (which is hilariously bad as is, no need to make it worse). I also used a selfbot in like 2016 to 2017, then I talked to some discord devs about it and yea it doesn't give you as much value as it puts you at risk of getting your account yoinked or banned in the long run. But yea would be great if discord could make a native client instead of this electron bs.
People who didn’t quite understand much of these stuff assumed the worst. It’s just a side effect that happen in any kind of client modification not just discord. Even games that are modded are included. When you change something from the original client you look for a certain pattern to flag them and start making your changes there, hence when there is some kind of update that alter those flags your code will be broken since it looks for things that aren’t there. It’s 90% of the time un intentional since the original devs doesn’t really pay attention or care about your changes they just focus on their own client.
i have betterdiscord on right now and nothing seems to be wrong, it broke some betterdiscord plugins like: FreeEmotes HideDisabledEmojis SpotifyControl those are the plugins i mostly use but they wont work and i dont wanna bother trying the others
The only thing I have installed on BetterDiscord is the ServerColumns theme. It still works, however I do have to occasionally reboot the app since after a while it starts to slow down when I switch server/channel and ultimately crashes. Is this something I need to fix on my end, or do I just gotta be patient?
Idk why anyone is mad at Discord here. They didnt even do it just to kill clients, they did it to improve their service. Either way custom Clients have some features that they definitly should not have and i would be happy if they kill these Features. (Like caching Messages or being able to see Channels they shouldnt be able to see)
@@AndyGun11 They shouldn't have to support client mods every update they do. It isnt supported and most users dont use such a thing. It should not be included part of QA either because it is not their job. It is a thing client mods have to deal with. This update improves client speeds for normal users. Discord has no obligation to client modders or mods.
@@AndyGun11That happens when you change your system to work better? Why should they make their own Discord client worse just bcs your modification does not work anymore if they improve it? You break the TOS and expect Discord to support you? Be happy that discord does not ban you lol.

@@AndyGun11 while being mad about this disaster is understandable, can we really blame Discord's staff for it? Idk what betterdiscord is talking about in the case of plugins specifically. I reinstalled betterdiscord with 0 plugins and the stupid thing crashes even so, prompting me to open my plugins folder to find the issues. So like, no...? Plugins arent the only thing thats broken about BD.
im just happy the themes still work tbh, im sad the plugins are dead but at least i can still have discord look cool. although betterdiscord seemingly crashes discord like every day now, so thats no fun
I'm glad people still use Discord even after it was known that Discord keeps all data from the user base this is exactly what we need as a society to grow you people put your trust in us and we give you no reason to worry I am proud of all the discord users you all are vital to our mission
I only used BD and their plugins to keep offline copies of DMs, and I guess this was bound to happen, I’ll run vanilla until they all rebuild, hopefully
Messages are often stored in your cache in your local folder including links to pics you thought you deleted so tf you achieving storing offline copies of dms using a 3rd party client when it's already been stored in your cache? Furthermore why would you need to keep offline copies? Talk about cringe 🙄
You can still use Better Discord-ish on phone it's called "Aliucord" I recommend this more than better discord for those who have it on phone, I even have a Gif among us theme for discord on phone, spread this far and wide, discord client modification is still possible on phone, and you install a whole different version of discord
I had just installed BD the night before this patch dropped so I woke up to none of the shiny new plugins I installed working and thought something had broke on my end
I use betterdiscord and I added a bunch of random plugins in the plugins folder, now my discord keeps getting killed by a level 9000 error, it keeps saying 'might have been one of your plugins?', which one was it?
i noticed this yesterday when i tried to open discord and it opened an error prompt window saying i should remove a few plugins from the betterdiscord plugins folder. after many failed attempts at removing the correct corrupted plugin i realized i should either re-install discord or uninstall betterdiscord from the installer.
I kinda hope discord does get rid of client mods, There is a lot of breaching of privacy that betterdiscord or some other client mods abuse, For example sending a picture by accident and then instantly deleting it, But who ever has betterdiscord well can see it regardless if its deleted, In general I do not support client mods, Unless they are just changing the background of discord or some stuff, But there is a lot here I do see breaching my own privacy, That discord hasn't done anything aganist.
I love how discord doesn't allow client mods, but then they make an app so shit that you basically need to use a client mod to resolve a large chunk of bugs and issues.
@@angw3l not really the point. What I was referring to was the fact that Goosemod is at its EOL or discontinued, which I didn't know about. That's why I said I'm switching back to BD.

kinda sad that goosemod won't be continued, but still, i appreciated the time having it 👍
rip to the better discord emotes plugin since the dev said it wasnt going to be continued and if it broke it broke
a frenchie here. I especially like the fact that you make it clear that the devs are doing their best, for free and with no particular expectations. And thanks for the video, which allowed me to have an explanation after the long week of waiting for the BD update.
I'm not sure why Discord is banning these changes that should be directly installed by default, but anyway thanks for the video and the explanations.
The amount of crashes are crazy for me, also, rip invis typing
silent/invis typing is the ONLY thing i need from the plugin framework, everything else is a nice touch
@@kraskaska Same. I only use some small features like creation date (now only useful for the exact time because discord finally added creation/join date to profile) so I don't really care for the other features. I sure do hope it gets updated
Historically no developer has given leeway to modders and the priority when updating stuff, the most they usually do is as they do, or after they update, they provide the Tools to work with the new update.
Discord really kills entire scene, either custom clients devs or bot devs (yes bot devs also suffered from API changes), like last 6 weeks, a library that i use Discord.js pushing update atleast 20 times in that time frame, like thats kinda annoying you gotta update every weeks or so to avoid crashes. this makes me quit and EOT my bot, and i just move to website stuff.
i downloaded better discord but when i opened discord settings it had a message "well this is akward" i tried repairing better discord it dosent work pls help me😔
It's the same for minecraft modded, minecraft doesn't have anything against modding but, updating the game every year and making performance changes and code changes for the better of the game does break easily old minecraft mods.
Except that Mojang explicitly permits modding, even though they do not provide built-in modding support.
You can easily downgrade versions in minecraft
There being two mod loaders now doesn't exactly help in that regard either (Quilt can run Fabric mods, so I'm not counting that).
@@BigBuddyYo True, but you loose all support if you downgrade too far. Even though 1.12.2 has most of my favorite mods (that are discontinued btw), I couldn't get help if I wanted to. The support team at Forge don't care about it anymore. I actually had to just switch to Fabric for my MC server since I couldn't get any help from anywhere on how to fix things.
Things like this are why I don't like client mods and would rather an actual custom client, though I realize the obstacles that would come with that :')
Imagine a more maintained, more visually appealing & officially endorsed Ripcord
god that would be so amazing.
there are a few custom clients available but from what I’ve looked at, none do quite what I want.
@@izumemori bruh no one cares
lightcord was a good example of a custom client, until it shut down of course
but there’s things such as ripcord as OP said, along with things such as Armcord which runs VERY well and much faster due to the way it’s built.
Bluecord is still ALIVE!
I have no idea what client mods are but I clicked and subscribed solely for your voice; it's a gorgeous voice, please keep talking
Thanks to this video I found out that better discord was functional again, even if only partially!
vencord and btrdiscord broke AGAIN!
yep, it happened to me too
about 5:00 idk if its a joke but like.... its against their tos to use client mods so why should they care of they work or not?
People who didn’t quite understand much of these stuff assumed the worst. It’s just a side effect that happen in any kind of client modification not just discord. Even games that are modded are included. When you change something from the original client you look for a certain pattern to flag them and start making your changes there, hence when there is some kind of update that alter those flags your code will be broken since it looks for things that aren’t there. It’s 90% of the time un intentional since the original devs doesn’t really pay attention or care about your changes they just focus on their own client.
WebCord also exists. Pretty much stock discord feature-wise with more security.
its basically just the browser discord repackaged
the only plugin i would be looking for is one that slightly rotates the chat bar by 3°
hey man no offense but like what is wrong with you
@@v-ia i want to trigger people (aka do a little trolling)
Why 3?
When I updated to the last version of BetterDiscord both themes and plugins were completely gone, nowhere to be found in settings
They should still be in your folder.
6 months later:
Discord: "We are switching back to Babel"
The video hasn’t even started yet but I want to say I got a chips ahoy ad before this
i have betterdiscord on right now and nothing seems to be wrong, it broke some betterdiscord plugins like:
FreeEmotes
HideDisabledEmojis
SpotifyControl
those are the plugins i mostly use but they wont work and i dont wanna bother trying the others
The only thing I have installed on BetterDiscord is the ServerColumns theme. It still works, however I do have to occasionally reboot the app since after a while it starts to slow down when I switch server/channel and ultimately crashes. Is this something I need to fix on my end, or do I just gotta be patient?
Basically they changed how they compress code and now the mods need to change the way they inject themselves
So this video is a big help into me understanding why the plugins I have stopped working
Seems like a lot of admin bots are being developed out, so I guess next thing could be the features these mods bring.
I would think people would know it's a discord update, BD broke many times before.
no wonder my discord keeps crashing...
Idk why anyone is mad at Discord here. They didnt even do it just to kill clients, they did it to improve their service.
Either way custom Clients have some features that they definitly should not have and i would be happy if they kill these Features. (Like caching Messages or being able to see Channels they shouldnt be able to see)
We're mad cause they BROKE ALL client mods.
@@tutiadhd Thats right the App is still lacking a lot of features. That is a valid point.
But then to be angry that they actually work on it, is somewhat ironic.
@@AndyGun11 while being mad about this disaster is understandable, can we really blame Discord's staff for it? It's not their responsibility to keep all of this client mods running, and things breaking at this level is completely normal when it comes to development that relies on potentially unstable internals, specially modding.
is there a way to downgrade discord for mods to work
Idk what betterdiscord is talking about in the case of plugins specifically. I reinstalled betterdiscord with 0 plugins and the stupid thing crashes even so, prompting me to open my plugins folder to find the issues.
So like, no...? Plugins arent the only thing thats broken about BD.
Tbh since all of these modifications are against ToS they don't have to maintain them
Still sucks that we have to wait again for new plugins
and why does that matter
and since when does tos matter when neither discord cares nor their employees (which use client mods too)
@@_rushii how many users get suspended for client mods?
im just happy the themes still work tbh, im sad the plugins are dead but at least i can still have discord look cool. although betterdiscord seemingly crashes discord like every day now, so thats no fun
I'm glad people still use Discord even after it was known that Discord keeps all data from the user base
this is exactly what we need as a society to grow you people put your trust in us and we give you no reason to worry
I am proud of all the discord users you all are vital to our mission
Nah I stopped using it lmao
@@thatspookagain4030 I'm sorry to hear you aren't using this software for your device
is there a reason?
The old meaning for "Common Sense" is becoming rare and the "common sense" nowadays just means "dumb" or "stupid" or something...
Talk about cringe 🙄
if you feel entitled to have a certain plugin on discord just make it yourself
passion project is the perfect way to describe modded clients. They are all pasted to hell and back and most have major issues
Just remember that Discord will ban you if they find you using these, so be careful when using them
On God bro! They banned my buddy Eric back in 2003 for bragging about a better discord pugin he was using. Never seen him since.
they most likely won't care unless you use a plugin that breaks TOS such as deleted message restorers.
You can still use Better Discord-ish on phone it's called "Aliucord" I recommend this more than better discord for those who have it on phone, I even have a Gif among us theme for discord on phone, spread this far and wide, discord client modification is still possible on phone, and you install a whole different version of discord
I had just installed BD the night before this patch dropped so I woke up to none of the shiny new plugins I installed working and thought something had broke on my end
freeemojis literally being a paid function, this will happen as it cuts into their model (it's penny pinching really)
this update broke the webcord, those who were sitting on the raspberry pi will be very disappointed that now they have to sit through the browser...
Dang, Channel Tabs is gone? That was my favorite plug-in. :(
The themes still work but it screwed up my Spotify status doesn’t work after it broke
5:44 turned out to become "shelter" and it claims to be more resistant to major discord app changes
im glad that its only for desktop and NOT on mobile
Yeah, aliucord is still in the run
I'm assuming this is only when you update since plugins on iOS are running fine at least for me.
They’ll break soon. Enmity :(
@@JIREX ah well fair enough, not much you can do except wait
@@mischiefthedegenerateratto7464 Aliucord for android was recently fixed. Im sure if Enmity breaks itll be fixed within the day :D

Yep, I had to uninstall BetterDiscord because Discord prevented me from loading the app and it said "Error"
I use betterdiscord and I added a bunch of random plugins in the plugins folder, now my discord keeps getting killed by a level 9000 error, it keeps saying 'might have been one of your plugins?', which one was it?
still works for me tbh
You didn't update it then
@@Kristijan_ nah bro, it is updated, but all my plugins work. The only one that doesn't work is message logger V2 but tbh, it's almost always broken
my themes don’t show up in settings and i don’t know why, i’ve tried repairs, deleting and redownloading and i can’t fix it :(

Cute chips
@@notlegitplayer hey zaine
@@DeepfriedChips hi
i noticed this yesterday when i tried to open discord and it opened an error prompt window saying i should remove a few plugins from the betterdiscord plugins folder. after many failed attempts at removing the correct corrupted plugin i realized i should either re-install discord or uninstall betterdiscord from the installer.
You do realise message loggers are against even BD ToS?
@@yung_maryoda Yet they have them lmao
I love how discord doesn't allow client mods, but then they make an app so shit that you basically need to use a client mod to resolve a large chunk of bugs and issues.
Damn, I used Goosemod regularly. Guess it's back to BD then.
did you read the title of the video
@@angw3l not really the point. What I was referring to was the fact that Goosemod is at its EOL or discontinued, which I didn't know about. That's why I said I'm switching back to BD.
I'm happy as long as skins work so I can get a dark skin that's not just a boring iffy gray...
RIP ChannelTabs, single handedly made discord usable for me
Someone fixed channeltabs btw.
So my betterdiscord only had themes on it and now it just doesnt work at all. Like discord launched with it and then crashed and went back to the regular client :/
Vencord Still works. I've switched to using Vencord for the time being. When Repugged works again, I will go right back to that.
ah, so this is what happened to my plugins, i was actually wondering what happened to my plugins that stopped them from working haha
I've heard NTTS say he loves me more than my dad at this point
