CIVIL @ UL - Year 1 Design & Build Project 2015

  • As part of the CIVIL @ UL Year 1 Engineering Mechanics module, students were tasked with providing a safe means for a person to cross the KBS / Schuman Pond. Over 11 weeks students, in groups, rigorously designed bridge structures. In the final week, the bridges were assembled and tested before the being brought to the pond where Prof. Tom Cosgrove confidently strolled from one side of the pond to the other on a combination of four bridges (two cable-stayed bridges and two truss bridges).
    Well done to all involved!

    Pfft easy. I built a bridge over a small valley twice the width of that for my friend. He can drive is sidexside on it.

    Why are you giving these innocent young engineers the idea that they will find
    themselves in a group of other engineers out here in the working world?
    Fact is, 's are, most of the work they might find will be flying solo.
    Brace these wonderful builders for the correct stress loads will you please....
