      Plus kratos has better feats then his younger version. Old kratos effortlessly pushed a bridge weighing 1.7 million tons and that’s excluding the weight of the water. He basically pushed a whole bridge and lake effortlessly. Young kratos had practically no feats.
      Plus kratos died 3 times by getting caught off guard lmao. Zeus killed a near death kratos and still struggled to overpower him, kratos died to ares without even knowing ares threw something at him, and kratos literally fell to his death from gaia. Kratos even stated that he was falling back in his old ways in Ragnarok meaning he would scale way above his younger self.
      Kratos while rusty is still stronger lmfao. He just doesn’t posses his skills. All of your points are really nit picky and taken out of context.

    In the lore it states that as Greek gods get older they get more powerful the only reason that kratos seems weaker is because he's holding back all his power because he is traumatized from his past and and fears what he will do if he unleashes his full strength. The video was still great tho.

    I believe the Spartan Rage that Kratos display in the Norse Realm is Kratos's default mode in the Greek realm in the first 3 games. One thing to take note of is that Zeus went out of his way to make himself as unkillable as possible, the only way to stop him was to snuff out the flame of Olympus which no god could touch, in fact if memory serves it killed anyone that tired. The only one close to this is Baldr but his is a curse laid onto him and not something he wanted, but even if the Olympians can't find his weakness they do have other ways to put him down, like Hades ripping out his soul or locking him in Tartarus with the titans. Now the Nords could find Pandora and get rid of the flame, but they would still have a very up hill battle trying to kill Zeus afterwards.

    The Greek pantheon is confirmed to be greater. When causally speaking about Heimdall Kratos mentions fighting/killing greater Gods. If there's doubt just compare Zeus's final fight(s) (GoW3) to Odin's (GoWR)... and you'll see who's greater. Any one of the big Greek 3 could have bested Odin. Well, definitely Zeus and maybe Hades... Poseidon died rather quickly, but still. Definitely can't forget about Gaia, Atlas, Cronos... those mostly equal to Zeus himself. In my opinion Kratos is at least as strong as he was in God of War 3. Take a look at this: in the Norse saga, whenever he gets pushed around too much, the game gives you a prom for Spartan Rage and he becomes invincible (like when the Valkyries pinned him at the spark). In God of War 3, whenever you activate the closest thing to Spartan Rage that the gameplay has, he just pulls the Blade of Olympus. To me that goes to show that in 3 he was in Spartan Rage 24/7, and now, he knows what he can do with that if he doesn't keep it under bay, so he doesn't want to use it. Look at his face after punching Thor, he was mortified, not because of Thor, because he slipped. He knows if he does that too many times his rampage in 3 would be nothing compared to now, when he still has something to lose.

    I agree with the Greek gods being more powerful, but not on kratos being weaker in Midgard. You alluded to it in the video when talking about the gods. Having more tricks, don’t make you more powerful. Kratos may have been able to do a bunch of magic when he was younger, which is great, but doesn’t mean he could put older kratos down with it. As you said, kratos is holding back like 95% of the time in the Norse realm. Yet he is able to kill gods that have many abilities. Kratos, like all Greek gods, get more powerful with age. Kratos power seems to grow not just with age, but the more rage he has. Which is why he has Spartan rage, signaling letting loose more of his power. All his attributes like speed ,strength and agility are what his godly powers focuses on. Also counting kratos deaths in Greece aren’t really fair. GOW 1 was kratos at his weakest. Didn’t know he was a god and needed Pandora’s box to put him at that level. Although technically he was able to beat the fury’s at that level. So still powerful. GOW 2 death was him being injured and Zeus coming in to finish him off. Unfair to really count those. He never actually dies in 3. He gets knocked to the underworld, but that not really a death. It’s weird how it worked in that game. I’ll chalk it up to being at mount Olympus.
    But the Greek gods are way more powerful when you look at feats. Primordials in Greece had a war where their battle literally created the universe. Just the aftershocks of their battles. Not necessarily them dying like Ymir. Punches!. Then the titans being the second generation are actually stronger than them. Then the gods are even stronger than the titans as they defeated them in the Great War. Not to mention Greek gods and titans hold power over aspects of reality or nature. Time came about when Kronos was born. Gaia is the personification of the earth itself. Zeus controls the heavens, Poseidon the sea. Helios is the sun god. While Thor may be the nurse god of thunder, I wouldn’t say he controlled the very aspect of lightning itself. More like he could use it. I could be wrong on that though. When the Greek gods die, the aspect they controlled goes out of wack until another god is able to take control of it. Which is why the oceans flooded Greece when Poseidon dies. This is why kratos tells Atreus there’s consequences for killing a god. Because there was in Greece. But there aren’t any for the Norse gods, besides the other gods getting angry. Norse gods are basically just powerful people. They control nothing, they do nothing. They honestly live like common folk. The vanir out here living in villages. Odin livin in a cabin basically. The Greeks were grander in power, knowledge and way of life. Greeks win

  • @adamblatt7072
    @adamblatt7072 Рік тому +24

    I have to disagree. The problem I have with this is the power scaling using Kratos. The reason power scaling works is because you are basing two things on something that is a set variable. Kratos is not a set variable due to his difference in strength between the games. And with the devs stating he’s more powerful now, I’ll take their word for it and assume that’s why Kratos can have an easier time fight against Asgard, not because Olympus is better. Kratos having a harder time with the Greek gods than the Norse gods can mean two things: #1, the Greek gods are just stronger, or #2, Kratos has gotten stronger over time, which makes more sense from a lore aspect because gods don’t get less powerful as they age. In 2018, Baulder is said to be “the physically strongest god Kratos has fought.” which makes him stronger than Zeus. Also, in my opinion, punching someone so hard they travel through time is a bigger feat than using magic to travel through time. Overall, I think both of the pantheons are similar in strength, with the Norse pantheon buffed enough to keep up with more powerful Kratos

    • @yoboyrob201
      @yoboyrob201 Рік тому +2

      My think is, the way time and space is set up in the Norse mythology makes certain things more plausible. Their realms sit on a tree. Effect that tree and crazy things can happen. The Greek world doesn’t have that same mechanism, so a feat like that wouldn’t be possible there. Just like how the Norse gods can do the same kind of magic as the Greeks. Their lands simply don’t have that kind of power. But to go against that feat, we can point to the primordials literally punching the universe into existence. That’s a greater feat than Thor. Remember, the titans and gods in Greece are more powerful than the primordials. So they’d be way above Thor

    This video highlights a common misconception about Kratos and how he "lost power" when the Greek Lands were destroyed. The thing most people forget is that the VAST MAJORITY of Kratos' "power" and "magic" in GoW 1-3 (including Ascension) came from external sources. In fact, the entire God of War series as it took place in Greece was basically Kratos managing to get continuously beaten down over and over until he pulls some plot ability or special piece of Magic he'd been given upon completing the previous level out of his arse to directly counter whoever his current foe is.
    .
    The "magic" and "great power" Kratos is talking about that he "lost" was all of the extra crap he got from external sources. All his Titan fuelled powers, all his divine artefacts with were ties to or powered by the Gods/other divine/magical sources, THAT is what he lost. By the end of GoW 3 though, he was a literal God himself. He ascended to become the new Olympian God of War at the end of GoW 1 and even though Zeus tricked him into havinf his powers drained by the Blade of Olympus later, by he time he finishes his overall story in GoW 3, he's regained those powers, plus certain degrees of power from several Gods, plus powers granted to him from most of the Titans, plus a host of divinely magical artifacts, weapons and armour and then literal plot power on top of that (Power of Hope is a confirmed plot power by GoW developers). However, following the destruction of those lands, most of those artifacts lost their power, practically every source of power Kratos drew on beyond his own innate abilities was gone - as were the majority of the beings that powered a lot of the magic Kratos once used freely (Because, y'know, he killed them all). Magic is a great example since Kratos has almost no magical capabilities innately but had a host of them given to him by various divine figures from across the Greek Pantheon.
    .
    The only thing that remained were the Blades of Exile and I actually appreciate the bit of dialogue from Surtr calling them a primordial power as it indicates that Athena/Ares depending on if you view these as weapons that evolved from the original Blades of Chaos or different entirely fashioned these weapons from some primordial power source not solely just through Greek Pantheonic magic. That, and the fact that the Blades are bound to Kratos himself which would assumedly mean that he is a source of power for them in his own right - hence why they still function.
    .
    The thing is that the devs, creative director and even many writers of GoW claim that Kratos is more powerful than ever while in the Norse Lands. That's a hard thing to get around. However, realistically, we shouldn't have to since we know that:
    A) Kratos is a legitimate God and has been since the end of GoW 1.
    B) As a demi-god who ascended, Kratos does not need worship to sustain his godly power (much like Herakles) though it can empower him FURTHER.
    C) As an Olympian God, he grows more powerful as he ages.
    D) Kratos' own divine power is his own outside of any of the external buffs he got and relied upon in GoW 1-3.
    E) Generally, Feats>Anti-feats. Ergo, Kratos having a harder time againat the Greek Gods is not some anti-feat for the Norse Gods. It's a testament to Kratos being More powerful later in life, not necessarily the Norse Gods being weaker - but that very much goes against the premise of this video which, in my humble opinion, is incorrect. Certainly not an invalid premise, but one that I feel has more evidence against it than supporting it.
    .
    Basically, the whole premise of this video is that Kratos was more powerful when he was fighting the Greek Gods than when he was fighting the Norse Gods. Despite the reasonable arguments presented to support this, it overlooks the fact that the majority of the power Kratos wielded in GoW 1-3 was given to him from artefacts, Gods, Titans and Monsters rather than being his own personal power. This is very different to GoW 4 and Ragnarok where, while he DOES get some pretty awesome gear and some extra abilities, these things aren't outright carrying him through the games like they were in GoW 1-3. Even the fact Kratos died multiple times and had to be brought back with external help shows that he was far weaker back then. Each time he comes back, half of his story involves going on a glorified divine Treasure Hunt in order to gather more powers and artifacts to relqce what was dtripped from him upon his last death because he can't hope to face the Gods without them (compare that to when Kratos actually had his godly powers and the other Gods - even Zeus - saw him as enough of a threat to strip them from him "just in case"). Every single boss fight he had help from an external source, power, ability or individual and even then, he's usually still outmatched and needs to find a way to creatively use his 3rd party powers or weapons (or even just plain luck) to barely eek out a victory. He would never have made it to where he did without all this extra stuff carrying him there.
    .
    Compare that to in the Norse Realms and most of the power we see is Kratos' own, innate power. Sure he gets the Leviathan Axe and the shield and a few other neat little goodies, but nothing like the veritable arsenal of weapons, armour and magical spells/abilities he's given in the previous games. That's why they say that KRATOS is more powerful than ever but why it also makes sense that he "lost a lot of power/magic" when the Greek Lands were destroyed and why he can't get it back - Because the sources of those powers and abilities, of those artifacts and that magic are all dead and/or destroyed.
    .
    With that in mind, it would seem to me that the only way to then get a reasonable scale for how powerful the different Gods are would to be working out their feats, how those scale to each other and then comparing old Kratos vs Young Kratos with all gear and see who is more powerful for either scaling purposes.

    I couldn't disagree more. Kratos is a little more rusty and has lower endurance as an older man. But is *WAAAY MORE POWERFUL* in GOW Ragnarok. And Thor and only Thor is so many times stronger than Kratos until in a cutscene he has to dodge everything. Even on normal difficulty you can't even block most of Thor's attacks. I disagree, in the codex Krayos says Thors punches were as hard as any he has felt. He's as strong as the top greek gods. Meaning he's only stronger with the hammer.
      Second according to cory barlog in 2018 he used less than 30% of his power the whole game. And in Ragnarok he holds back more. He canonically doesn't use spartan rage against the norse gods in Ragnarok. And it fits with Cory stating that he could solo the border pantheon awhile back.

And Kratos also easily tanked a hit from a full power Thor with mjolnir.
      Edit- Even if I am wrong about the 30% part it still doesn't take away how easily he beat these gods. He overpowered Thor in a clash and didn't give him any serious punches. And In the first fight Thor implies Kratos tried more against his sons.
      Also like I said he didn't use spartan rage canonically against the norse gods in Ragnarok. Spartan rage is his true power but not full power because he holds back and controls his rage. Kratos powers up by rage. He held back massively, get over it dude.

    I think Kratos said himself that the Greek pantheon were overall tougher & way more ruthless, and Mimir confirmed this by saying “from the stories I heard, they all had it coming.” Because of this it’s fair to say Kratos “took it easy” on the Norse Gods (in fact Thor was the only one that stood a fighting chance against him), but if he encounters the Egyptian pantheon in the next game (which has been hinted at all the way since GOW Ascension was released), then that’ll be a WHOLE new ball game. It will be worse than what happened in Greece. Kratos might have to revert to his old self against them, because they are truly fucking vicious & will not try to bargain with Kratos like Odin, they will NOT hold back. Sekhmet vs Kratos would be an absolute bloodbath (and I mean that literally, her official title is “The Bloodthirsty”) It’ll be interesting to see how Sony Santa Monica reinterprets her because according to the myths she can be 1000x worse than Ares

    While the Greek Gods are undoubtably more numerous, there's a few things that I feel like people forget
    1. Kratos' deaths in Greece were a result of him being outsmarted, not outpowered, hell, he would have straight up killed Zeus in God of War 2 had Athena not fucked everything up
    2. Every Greek God starts a fight underestimating Kratos, basically hyping themselves up then getting absolutely flattened in the actual fight, no different to what happens to Heimdall, only difference is that Heimdall could actually back up his shit talk, which is why Kratos needed an entirely new weapon that acted autonomously in order to land hits on Heimdall, who could have still won had he not thrown everything to the wayside by throwing a hissy fit
    3. The Norse Gods have extremely, extremely potent hax that the Greek Gods have never shown to have, we're talking things like Freya's binding that could incapacitate Odin just by pulling on a piece of rope he used, or Bifrost being seen as an actual credible threat to Kratos, or just flat out turning every single Norse God invincible using the same thing that Freya did to Baldur, and then stabbing their hands with Mistletoe once they exhaust the Greek Gods

    • @yoboyrob201
      @yoboyrob201 Рік тому +3

      I agree with the death part. But heimdall, while he did poses a good ability, was solely depended on it. Take that one advantage away and he a kinda weak god. As far as hax goes, the Norse don’t really have that many like you think. The only reason Freya could do what she did with the rope was because it was a “charged” item Odin used at one point to gain knowledge. I can’t give you a definitive definition of charged item, but most likely he did something very specific to it probably putting his essence in it or at least his power. Binding him to it some way. Very specific ability and not applicable in most cases. We also don’t know the full mechanics of the invincibility spell Freya did for baulder. It is their best hax but probably takes a lot of setup and isn’t easy to do. Otherwise Freya would have just did it before Ragnarok and they would have dogwalked the aesir. The Greek gods had control over different aspects of reality and nature. That trumps all the magic that most of the Norse gods can wield.

    Honestly, i think, just based off the reactions from freya and mimir when kratos tells them of the powers of the gods from greece,that the greek gods held a power so unimaginable that the norse gods would probably shit their pants if they had to fight them. I mean thor only took one punch from a half assed enraged kratos and basically called it enough, and then later went on to lose to a kratos actively holding back, and before that he beats a god that was thought untouchable with relative ease soo i think it's fair to say greek gods have demonstrated far more power than the norse pantheon*(keep in mind he beat the norse gods without ANY of the powers and MOST of the equipment that he had in greece)

Imagine Poseidon, Hades, Zeus, Hermes and Heracles just going for Kratos, the titans were nothing to them and were swatted aside and with Kratos alone, not even the magic he got will save him from said gangbang, Zeus already matches him even with all the equipment he has, but with the four I mentioned, he will be destroyed.

The first game is about him defending his son who was threatened with death multiple times....he was not holding back most the time. Holding back his anger maybe, and even then do people nit know how Spartan Rage works....it's rage when u use ur anger ur not holding back im sorry...it's not how it works. If we're talking in real mythology it's easily the Greeks mainly cause there's so much text and content about them when the Norse mythology isn't even close. Also the Norse were way more like a Spartans as they trained and lived to fight and die...that was sorta there thing...I mean replay the Baldur fight and actually pay attention to detail. If kratos let's him heal back up one more time kratos probably loses.
