Felt a little down today - watched this and I am now inspired and happy again, watching this walk brings back what I used to do - plantar fasciitis is getting easier now but can't wait to go on proper walks myself again - you are a true inspiration :)
Yes please! I'm so glad I've found you. Thank you for this film. Thank you for the openness, energy, honesty and all the wild spirit! I absolutely love your narration :D Things you said resonated with me a lot and I'm so grateful for what you're doing. That was my first time here but I'm staying for good. I wish you all the wilderness to forever grow in your heart! Have a good day/night and see you soon.
I know that feeling of insecurity, when wild-camping alone. The first time I wild-camped solo was in a woodland in Scotland. Every noise woke me up, from the creaking of the trees to the sounds of wildlife and rain and it was pitch black dark. I was nervous and I hated myself for it. Logic told me that people are the only thing to worry about, but I was not reassured. I had to force myself to stay out and not go back to the campsite where we (my family) were staying, only three miles away. In the morning, I ridiculed myself as I looked around the beautiful spot where I had chosen to camp and wondered why I had felt so threatened. I downplayed my fears to my family, who thought I was mad, because I wanted to feel at home in the woods so badly. You are more confident. At least you are not afraid to say you were afraid. Respect! My family still think I am mad, including the next generation, but the only fear I have, these many years later, is that I will be asked to move, because in most parts of England you are not supposed to wild-camp. Your walk around Dartmoor looks perfect - a top walk to hammock camp - which I hadn't imagined. Bliss! This might very well be my August walk, although I was thinking about doing The Ridgeway... I might do both! This was a great watch. That third wild-camp, 'the happy, sunset camp', had me grinning from ear to ear. Well done!
Hello Gracey.. it gets better the more times you do it. I was like that at first but put all the creatures around me as my friends. Thinking about where i am and what there is to look forward to. The future for you is looking good please keep it up.. Regards Mick... Chef on the wild-side.......
@@mickjames1609 The first time I slept in just a bivy was another milestone for me. Now, tents make me feel claustrophobic. Abbie you do really good work in highlighting mental health issues. Getting outdoor and excercise is really good to help anyone with mental health. Abbie, you are truly an inspiration ! I have just watched the whole of this film without fast forwarding a single second [ apart fom the ads obviously ! }. My wife and i have watched a lot of your films, with the intention of seeing them all, and think you do what you do so well. The way you share your inner dialogue and verbalise your struggles and challenges is so brave and so amazing and we love it that you don't feel the need to swear whilst doing so. Sometimes it can be difficult when there are so many bad things happening caused by people having a negative impact in the world, but to know that someone like you exists is very heartwarming and fills us with hope for the future. Your videos really bring the emotions of exploring a trail to home. I completed my first long distance walk with my Grandad when I was 16 and we did many after that including Coast to Coast and backpacking the Pennine Way. Sadly this year he has been diagnosed with Parkinsons and his walking days are behind him. I've since moved to Cumbria but neglected getting back out. But this news really gave me thought and I've found a bunch of circular walks that marks off the Wainwrights. So I've been getting my gear back together and getting sorted to get started on them over the next few weeks with each peak and trail being a time of remembrance and contemplation. This channel over the past few years has been a real help in me wanting to get back out too.Thank you.
What a lovely way to spend 2 hours. I switched off the TV and settled into this. Great narration, editing and a lovely journey through Dartmoor. I didn’t burn many calories but feeling inspired.

Ahhh good old dartmoor.. The most miserable place to spend any of your army career. As a civvy it's great, on exercise, it's hell on earth 😂. But such a stunning area all the same. Good effort and attitude abbie! I'm happy for you. I've only recently came across your channel but I root for you. Keep the chin up, and keep that lovely smile going.
The oldest and strangest emotions of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strangest kind of fear is fear of the unknown 👍 you'll be fine up on them moors, if your afraid of people, they won't look to take to the moors to come and give you hassle, they'll be down in the towns and cities, the moors are your safety net, your place of escape. Something is obviously kicking in at that point where you feel vulnerable, it could be something you can't see but subconsciously you spotted it, it's going to be a perceived threat and not an actual threat. You realized at that moment your alone and there's nobody about, so if someone does come what do you do ? If someone does come, they'll be like you, enjoying the uplands, it'll be ok ❤️
Great to see you pushed yourself here. Even though solo is what i enjoy the most, i still feel the insecurities you mentioned at times. It's natural and somewhat sensible too... but once you manage them that's when everything changes :) enjoyed the upload, thanks! 🌲
I wild camped with a friend this year but have yet to take the plunge and wild camp solo and I know I will be terrified! Well done Abbie on pushing through the fear and just doing it. Little Bobby trotting along in his little coat melted my heart!
Amazing video Abbie, I am one of the few people doing the National 3 Peak Challenge in September with you all... Be nice to meet you as we are not much different in life and mental health. Stay strong and stay safe x
That was brilliant. Your commentary, a combination of informative interesting facts and appreciation of nature, history and the landscape, is fascinating. Above all… the way in which you let us in to your thoughts, fears and dreams is inspiring. Thank you Abbie. I hope you don’t think I’m being presumptuous when I say you seem to me to have matured. Everything from the camera work and editing to the commentary seems more professional. I’ll still be rewatching all your old stuff.
Wow. I can't believe how much you have inspired me to tie up the boots and get hustling. Thank you keep it up.i don't think i would but i couldn't help but get hooked on your channel 😁
Great video. Much respect for sharing your anxiety. It's not easy camping out alone which I have done quite a lot on Dartmoor as a local born and bred in Bovey. ( pronounced Buv - ee) I like the way you make friends with the trees.
I’ve watched some of your adventure videos, yet I had no idea that you had anxiety about wild camping alone. Beautiful story, trek, and video. You are double courageous to not only overcome your fears and complete this trek, but also share it with the wiley public out here. I’m very proud of you. 💚 I absolutely loved the giant flat stone bridges on the way 🏞
If you watch this video and want to come and walk on Dartmoor - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do your research on the wild camping rules and locations on Dartmoor. Whilst its the only place in England you can legally wild camp, you can't do it everywhere. This is a really sensitive issue at the moment as a hedge fund manager from London has bought part of the moor and is trying to challenge the legislation that enables wild camping to take place. There are plenty of details on the National Park Authority website including a map which tells you where you can/can't do it - sadly even Abbie doesn't get it 100% right in her pitches in this video. Please respect the rules for those of us who live locally and camp when we can, the challenge to our ability to camp is yet another threat to the things we all love doing, and your help obeying the rules will make it less easy for them to challenge :) Great video Abbie, nice to see your trip. My wife and I did a double take when we drove past you in Lydford, but didn't realise it was you until too late.
As somebody who’s dad held a partners position in one of the established broking firms in the City, it would have been lovely to hear that “Hedge Fund Manager buys part of Dartmoor and spends money on providing facilities for Wild Campers”, as opposed to what’s actually happening......very sad indeed!

What an adventure, you did incredibly well. Especially in April with the cold weather and random snow fall. It looks like a tough trail but very rewarding, with stunning scenery and countryside. You definitely showed your resourcefulness throughout, even in the more challenging moments. And the lady who allowed you to pitch up on her land, got to love a trail angel 😇 The kindness of strangers ☺️ I’ve only managed two nights of consecutive wild camping, it’s not easy and it does push one’s limits. Congratulations on completing the Dartmoor Way, thank you for your honesty and authenticity. I really enjoyed your film and appreciate how long this must have taken to edit. Thank you Abbie, have a great summer with many more adventures. All the very best 😎
Hi Abbie you inspire me to challenge my fears everytime I watch your vlogs. I to try everyday to do something new and face all that get in my way, so thank you.
This was really inspiring. I'm doing the great Glen way at the end of May which will be my first solo walk and wild camping as well, seeing you panic but push through has really helped, definitely normalised those anxious feelings I'm having
Perfect timing on this one, Abbie! I'm sooo tired from writing nonstop. I needed this pleasant and beautiful break. I loved all of the idyllic bridges and green countryside.
Great video Abbie, but I can't help but think you missed out on a great opportunity to film Anna with your stick, on the bridge and doing a " YOU SHALL NOT PASS !!!" 🤣🤣xx
Morning and thanks for the adventures and the openness. This morning, I'm heading into the wild myself. I've taken to hiking the Superior Hiking Trail when I can and it always refuels me emotionally, while challenging me at the same time. We have bears and moose and everything in between in these forests and I will always admit that while I"m captivated, there's always a mix of trepidation about being on my own at night. Solo hiking really is an amazing way to heal and to grow. When I saw this video pop up, it felt meant to be. How lovely your moors! I'm always a fan of the gothic novel and Jane Eyre is always my favorite, along with The Secret Garden and D Du Maurier's work. Kate Bush anyone? :-). Perhaps next year I'll be following in your footsteps? I'm sending out peace and love to you and all during these times. Hike on fellow seeker! Coming to you from way up in the NW of Wisconsin in the USA, on lovely Lake Superior.
Very inspiring Abbie. You are one of my inspirations in getting outdoors and enjoying wild camping and hiking. Be true to yourself and make sure you enjoy every moment. I always remember that it’s about the journey (highs and lows) not the end point that counts.
Epic video!! Thank you for showing your vulnerability, I have yet to do a solo wild camp, but you are such an inspiration. Yes, I am afraid, but I really want to do it. Dartmoor is on my doorstep, so what is stopping me? Keep doing what you do, you are my hero. :)
Welcome back Abbie, I have missed your longer hike over the Covid Break. Admittingly I have not hike the South of England restricting myself to the Lake District, C2C and Pennine Way. Now being over 65 I think its safer if I stay at home and just watch people like you doing the Hiking. Good Luck with your hike.
I loved this exploration of Dartmoor's periphery! I struggled to understand why the Dartmoor way misses out some cracking parts of the edge of the moor but I have realised it is both more accessible and sustainable that way. Some of the most beautiful parts are also very sensitive and wouldn't sustain a lot of traffic. I really enjoyed seeing the areas I grew up around near Ivybridge and out to buckfastleigh.
Hi Abbie. I loved watching your walk. Great film. Beautiful area. Well done with the wild camping 🏕️ Loved seeing Bobby taking on the steps, his little legs make my smile. Kx
Abbie you would love to go exploring the white peak and Derbyshire dales. Loved the video ❤️I love history especially our own. And I love how you keep us informed with information of the history of the land you are walking through
Brilliant film Abbie, really enjoyed it, thanks for making it. It's great that you're back doing long distance walks and well done on the wild camping! I'd love to try it

Amazing trip! I feel like we got to the end too quick, probably because I was enjoying the scenery too much. The first long route I’ve watched at all and I must see if I can find more lengthy ones to watch. Thanks for sharing 😃
Loved this Abbie. I really relate to what you said about not really being able to put your fears into words - I have this too, particularly in woodland where I previously had a big freakout, gathered up my stuff and scurried through the woods to be closer to the rest of the group I was with (I had attempted to camp further away to overcome my fears, but it was not to be that night). I find woods at night very tough. I finally managed my first solo camp (with dog companion, which helped a lot) this weekend and by coincidence also uploaded a (shorter, very amateur!) film about it yesterday in the hope of inspiring others to push past the fear. I must admit I did not sleep a single wink as I felt so alert, though I wasn't too scared as I was on a hill and the moon was bright so I could see all around. I would love to be able to sleep even a few hours!
Well done overcoming your fears for a great confidence boost 👌😁 Just found this after looking for Dartmoor 100 videos as I'm attempting to run the loop in a few weeks so this was a really nice watch to give me some insight of what to expect as I've never been in the area before. All the best and thanks 😁👍
Hello 👋 Just sitting down to watch your film. Really looking forward to this one. Never been to Dartmoor myself, but it looks like an intriguing place to hike & explore. ☺️
Hello Abbie.. Like me sometimes we do things that are scary. All i do is think about the nice things when wild-camping and it makes it so much better and enjoyable. At night i listen for movement of the Deer and Foxes that seem to be close by. The odd hooting of the Barn owls and other creatures such as Hedgehogs and Mice. I try to make as many as i can companions and it seems like they are my only company. I just cannot wait until i am well enough to return to the wild but for now i do Hill-walking close to where i live and have the odd picnic or Bbq while out.. Regards Mick... Chef on the wild-side............
Beautiful area to walk Abbie. Well done! Loved the little "gifts" you had along the way:.. the scarf ( hope you kept it), the swing, the overnight stay in lady's garden, the colourful ducks... and probably a lot more. Would love to do one of your group walk and meet you. Any plans for North Devon? X
Very well done . Great video. As a landscape photographer I am always looking for new areas to get some awesome images .one place I certainly wouldn`t photograph would be that eyesore of the working quarry but can you recommend some incredible places on that route for quality images . Thank you again for taking us on this trail you are incredible even if you don`t always think so .Keep up the stunning videos
Abbie, what a beautiful fantastic vlog. 2 hours flu by. Thank you again. Sorry i am near blind, On going laser treatment, Unable to see what I've written . Hay ho! Tried. Cheers
Lovely to see you on familiar, if not home, territory, Abbie ❤ Providence! +1:17:13 that's the shot! a lovely hidy hole I wonder if a bivvy would be better That wood looked spooky because we've been brainwashed by countless bloody film directors A thought crossed my mind as you crossed so many other named trails - I wonder where you could end up, if, without referring to maps, every time you met a named trail, you took it ? 🤔 It's quite mad, but could be fun, if Anna acted as backup.
Great video as usual - will be walking this in day stages soon as it's local. There's a bit at 47:20 where you are trying to decide how to pronounce "North Bovey" - is it Bohvey or Bovvy? Neither :) Bovey is pronounced Buvvy in all the places you visit i.e. River Buvvy, Buvvy Tracey (we usually just shorten this to just Buvvy on it's own), North Buvvy. Also there's the tricky "Teign" which is variously pronounced tin, teen or tayn depending which place and defying all logic - it's the River Teen, Teignmouth=Tinmouth, Teigngrace=Teengrace and Kingsteignton = Kings-tayn-ton. Apologies for fickle Devon pronounciations :D
Hi Abbie, loved the video, what a treat :-) You have continued to inspire me with all of your videos and meeting you at Dunkery. I'm aiming to do my first wild camp (probably exmoor) this summer and feel very anxious about it getting dark. Will aim to be in the tent by that point!! Thanks again.
Abbie, have you looked into the Zoleo? It is an SOS button/check in device that will give your phone signal when you don’t have it. Fantastic for solo adventures!
I'd never go wildcamping by myself because I'm afraid of other people harming me. I don't have other fears. That reason alone is enough. I don't know how you do it.
I know this probably doesn't help, but you're significantly more likely to be injured or killed on the way to a national park than you are to be accosted in your tent. I don't know of any recorded violent incidents involving wild camping in the UK.
Think of how few people you are likely to come across on a hike or come across when you are wild camping and then how unlikely it is that they would do someone harm. Hope you get out to hike and enjjy the outdoors.
Well done Abbie. Is wild camping still allowed on Dartmoor? I saw a disturbing article about some landowner winning a court case which could inhibit it. Please advise if you know the latest on this devastating news. Thanks.

It looks like a tough trail but very rewarding, with stunning scenery and countryside. You definitely showed your resourcefulness throughout, even in the more challenging moments. And the lady who allowed you to pitch up on her land, got to love a trail angel 😇 The kindness of strangers ☺️
I’ve only managed two nights of consecutive wild camping, it’s not easy and it does push one’s limits. Congratulations on completing the Dartmoor Way, thank you for your honesty and authenticity. I really enjoyed your film and appreciate how long this must have taken to edit. Thank you Abbie, have a great summer with many more adventures. All the very best 😎
A great adventure and congratulations that's the way to grow, always leaving comfort zone ;) Best wishes and happy trails, Mario
Watching on a Friday morning with a pot of coffee knowing il get inspired and motivated to get busy this weekend
Thank you so much for a brilliant video,You took me really by the hand all along the route ❤
Respect 🙏 . Awesome stuff. Great photography. We all know that anxious feeling when hiking and wild camping alone ...
Have missed your long walks welcome back x
Thank you!
Thank you Abbie 😊 I'm just getting my kit together to wildcammp tonight and tomorrow night on Dartmoor. This video has helped me mentally prepare
Wow! Really enjoyed the video thank you Abbie. You’re always inspirational to me. Well done, you braved the wild camping and came out triumphant 👍🏻x
Thank you so much!
❤️
Thanks for letting me go along with you , I felt like I was there with you 🤗
Welcome back Abbie, I have missed your longer hike over the Covid Break. Admittingly I have not hike the South of England restricting myself to the Lake District, C2C and Pennine Way. Now being over 65 I think its safer if I stay at home and just watch people like you doing the Hiking. Good Luck with your hike.
Thank you Abbie.
Nice to see you back on the trail… And you made it ! 😃
Go Abbie! This is great. Thanks for sharing your experiences, insight and life. You are an inspiration x
Hi Abbie. I loved watching your walk. Great film. Beautiful area.
Well done with the wild camping 🏕️ Loved seeing Bobby taking on the steps, his little legs make my smile. Kx
Thank you! Lovely video! I love the sheep visiting you in the morning at your tent. They'd have liked to come inside and cuddle up no doubt!
Thanks for sharing Abbie. I really enjoyed coming along with you on the Dartmoor Way.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great review.
These videos are so well made and so good to watch
Thanks for the awesome video.
Abbie you would love to go exploring the white peak and Derbyshire dales.
Loved the video ❤️I love history especially our own. And I love how you keep us informed with information of the history of the land you are walking through
Nice video and message Abbie. Like the mild use of music.
Thank you!
Brilliant film Abbie, really enjoyed it, thanks for making it. It's great that you're back doing long distance walks and well done on the wild camping! I'd love to try it
Your very inspiring 🌞 and brave - enjoy your travels and thank you for making such a beautiful video . I’m new to your channel - I can’t wait to watch more of your adventures ⛺️🚴🌳 Blessings to You and Yours From Sunny Florida 🌞🌞🌞
Awesome video really enjoyed it. 😁 looking forward to the next one take care. 🌞
Great to see one of your hikes again its made me want to dig out my hiking boots once again .🙂 nikki
I’m so pleased to watch this! So happy as I’ve missed your videos 😁 plus I think you really suit the red scarf 🤩
A wonderful adventure Abbie….I’m lost in admiration at your resolve…👏👏👏
Very well done . Great video.
As a landscape photographer I am always looking for new areas to get some awesome images .one place I certainly wouldn`t photograph would be that eyesore of the working quarry but can you recommend some incredible places on that route for quality images .
Thank you again for taking us on this trail you are incredible even if you don`t always think so .Keep up the stunning videos
Well done Abbie!
Awesome!
Been waiting for a long haul hike Abbie 🏕⛰️
Always lovely to watch. Maybe you could give the Pembrokeshire coast path a go sometime.
Great.
Abbie Barnes, you are seriously magnificent! I love you!
I loved this adventure!😀 Now when you've had a good rest, go back out there a have another one!!! 😎
Top class as usual .
Thank you! Cheers!
Abbie, what a beautiful fantastic vlog. 2 hours flu by. Thank you again. Sorry i am near blind, On going laser treatment, Unable to see what I've written . Hay ho! Tried. Cheers
Good work.
55:25. I think that was Gidleigh Castle.
Lovely to see you on familiar, if not home, territory, Abbie
❤ Providence!
+1:17:13 that's the shot! a lovely hidy hole
I wonder if a bivvy would be better
That wood looked spooky because we've been brainwashed by countless bloody film directors
A thought crossed my mind as you crossed so many other named trails - I wonder where you could end up, if, without referring to maps, every time you met a named trail, you took it ? 🤔 It's quite mad, but could be fun, if Anna acted as backup.
Loved the Video great views and the moors just awesome .
Very inspiring! xx
What a treat! 2 hour film yay! Thank you! So excited to see the adventure and learn more about wild camping. xx
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@AbbieBarnesWILD Blew me away! Thank you for showing us the beauty of Dartmoor and facing your fears with the camping! Well done, you did it, Wahoo!
Thank you so much!!
Awesome video. When would be the best time of year to hike this trail?
Thank you. Feeling inspired.
Just pressed play: SO EXCITING. I love your films. Also that scarf looks to me like a Palestinian keffiyeh. I could be wrong about that.
Great video thanks for sharing Abbie. May I ask what kind of water purifier you use?
I used a Katadyn BeFree 1l filter :)
Hope your keeping well Abbie you look after yourelf.
Abbie, have you looked into the Zoleo? It is an SOS button/check in device that will give your phone signal when you don’t have it. Fantastic for solo adventures!
Sounds cool! Also the InReach device. Probs should get one of those haha!
I’ve wildcamped since I was 14 with my dad. I’m now 33 and still go. Never had a problem.
Hi. I love your videos. This is a walk I would love to do someday. Just wanted to know what Mao you used for it please x
Map lol
Used OS maps online and printed out :)
Hi Abbie. What happened to North Bovey? One minute you are heading towards it, the next you are at Moretonhampstead?
Well done Abbie. Is wild camping still allowed on Dartmoor? I saw a disturbing article about some landowner winning a court case which could inhibit it. Please advise if you know the latest on this devastating news. Thanks.
Yes you can still wild camp in many places! Check out the national park website for more info :)
Respect
Some of the views after your rain looked more like the High Pennine and not what I expected if Dartmore
Do you think you'll ever do the Cape wraith trial? It would be by far the best video on UA-cam if you do
