i was lucky enough too get the first pair east of the mississippi from the oakley rep when he came into the shop to show them off back in the day. i bought them on sight off the rep. original romeos with all red rubbers in like 1996 or some such and i still have them. sent in for numerous lens replacements and now i have to buy them from a reseller in japan. still love them. they last.

A guy in USA makes them from OEM oakley lenses & sells on ebay. He buys lenses from other models & cuts them to shape. He is also on the oakley forum.

I own many X-Metal pairs, and also the Romeo 1 Red Jordan's, Ducatti Juliet's and few more, nothing major. I never liked the Romeo 2 variance.. Ever since Jim sold out to Luxottica, Oakley has never been the same :( Actually the Romeo 1 JORDAN with the red unobtanium were RE-RELEASED just a few years ago on Oakley's website, I believe about 25 pairs worldwide were sold total, @ $14k USD each! oh mama.... X-Metal, hands down. The Best.
Agreed that Oakley is definitely not the same since Lux took over. I also remember when they released the limited edition X-Metal set of Romeo + Juliet for the ridiculous $14K asking price. The release was a great idea, but very poor execution in that they literally priced 99.99% of collectors (including me) out of the market.
Regarding the Romeo 2, it's important to keep in mind that these were still released during Jim's days. It's understandable that not everyone will like them, but the Romeo 2 are still some of my personal favorite X-Metals. 😀
I love my Romeo 2, some day I will try on a pair or the OG Romeo and buy them.
Really wish I would have picked up all colors of the original Romeos when I had a chance!

I have Romeo 2 x metal / black iridium hydrophobic like new condition and coin small size also box and original receipt from 2009
X-Metals were the best and will never be replaced IMO. Congrats on your Romeo 2s! Hold onto them if you can!
