Had retired in 2014 to the Greenville suburb of Simpsonville. Quite happy until recently. Mindless growth has caused traffic to become impossible. 10,000 new houses planned or built. The county keeps on approving sub-division permits without regard to two lane blacktop road and overcrowded schools. If you come here, try moving 25-30 miles out of Greenville for less crowding.
Lack of healthcare is a very big concern because I have a short laundry list of conditions. Before I go full speed ahead, I'll find out if it'll be worth it. The last thing I want to do is have to drive hours away for healthcare or have to fly back to NY for healthcare. That would defeat the purpose of relocating. I've heard from retirees that they've had to do just that. Several have moved back to NY, NJ, CT for that specific reason.
@@gvlrealestate Charleston was quaint and I can see spending some weekend evenings there. Greenville seemed nice but a little too far away. Summerville was nice and lots of new construction but I wonder how they're going to handle all that new traffic coming soon. I'm now looking at Summerton. I skipped Columbia. Everyone we talked to was really nice and some from out of state who moved there.
We’ve been here 2 years now, no snow yet but was 6-8 inches right before we moved. We also hit around 0 degrees both winters. Cost of living is going up quickly with the high demand and growth in the area. Taxes rising also. Healthcare is definitely lacking, not enough providers here either. Charleston I’ve heard is much better for healthcare.
Compare increases in taxes to taxes in other markets. Sure we need more physicians, and the quality of our healthcare is some of the best in the state.
We are considering moving from Massachusetts to Greenville. We have a daughter and granddaughter there as well as my wife has a sister there. We are retired and in our 70's. I do work part time for BMW and am offered a job in Spartanburg if I would like to continue with them. We are paying tons of taxes especially property tax which right now is over 10k a year and going up this month, not to mention excise taxes and tax on SS. I'm ready just my wife is still not sure 😢. 😂
Will I Love Greenville. We are retiring nearby. I will be calling you soon. Also I don't believe you mentioned the main attraction in Greenville. The Falls Park at Reedy Creek. I Love that place.

Looove Greenville, SC
What's the point of the apparently empty coffee cup?
Taking our first tour of SC next week. Starting with Charlestown area (Summerville) and looking towards Columbia and Greenville.
What'd you think?
