    bentonite clay should be stirred with a wooden or ceramic spoon. it will weaken its effectiveness when stirred with aluminum because what it does is extracts heavy metals from the body. I love your recipe, it looks great I'm looking forward to experimenting with it! Thank you for everything

    I also make a baking soda/coconut oil mix. I pour mine into these little plastic containers with lids and we apply with our fingers. My husband likes it too and says it really works effectively... And he works outside all day and does get sweaty! A really nice and fresh scent is lemongrass. We both like how it smells.

    I'm a little late to this party but it came up in my feed today (2019) and I did appreciate your recipe. A word about baking soda is that while natural and usually safe (esp compared to other deodorizing ingredients) it is still a reactive chemical and a base (opposite of acid) and can in fact burn you just the way an acid can. The concern is not in using it but leaving it there on the skin. It may be more suitable in a soap recipe where it is rinsed off. So just to summarize in itself the baking soda can irritate chemically (base burn) or mechanically (from the gritty texture rubbing against sensitive armpits) but the potential for chemically reacting to sweat is pretty real too. I'm not saying to stop if this is working well for you just a bit of info. If you have sensitive skin or if you are having trouble these are some likely explanations.
    I wonder if you can speak if charcoal would be an appropriate ingredient in a homemade deodorant?
    Thanks for your video.

    This stuff works great! I've been using this for a long time now, (found a similar recipe online a while ago) and I do have to say that 1) I don't ever smell, even if I forget to put it on or do an intense workout and 2) normal deodorants made me sweat more but ever since I started using this I've stopped. Best part is...it's so easy and affordable to make!

      You use more wax! and since coconut oil is liquid at room temperature, don't use it, just use the wax and the butter! So, Ella's recipe would be something like this:
      2 tbsp of wax
      3 tbsp of butter (cocoa butther is best for warmer climates)
      1 tsp baking soda
      3 tbsp arrowroot powder / bentonite
      15 drops essential oil - I used cinnamon & tangerine
      Keep it ut of the sun and heat (refrigerator is a good option!) and you're good to go!
      Just remember, even if you don't put it in the fridge it will be a harder deodorant, not so smooth! But I used it anyway through the summer - we had temperatures around 40ºC, in the shade!! Worked well also! ;)

    Two things, though I’m new to this:
    1) It appears to me that you’re not making a deodorant (kills bacteria) but an antiperspirant. Bentonite clay isn’t antimicrobial but a pore sealer. This is genius, if you are into antiperspirants.
    2) If you are trying to avoid aluminum compounds, why use bentonite clay? It’s an aluminum compound.

    • @chaosswa-ee-ty5911

      Whoa betonite Clay is metal?

    • @amber_Forever16

      Lester Lester it has aluminum in it! Google “is bentonite really good for you” or “dangers of bentonite clay”

      @@amber_Forever16 I will thanks

    • @jamesostick7364
      @jamesostick7364 4 роки тому

      1) Bentonite clay isn’t metallic or elemental aluminum. It’s a compound with aluminum atoms in it. It’s like graphite (elemental carbon) vs. carbon dioxide (carbon containing compound).
      2) There’s no actual evidence that aluminum compounds on your skin are bad for you. The studies they used were misreported. Old Spice in a petri dish seem to damage DNA, and breast cancer tends to start near the armpit. However there are no known aluminum compounds that leach through the skin or evidence that women who use antiperspirant are more likely to get breast cancer.

    Hi Ela, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, if not - apologies! I've made the deodorant stick and loved it!…until about a week later I developed eczema under one arm. I thought it might be that I had also changed my soap in the shower. So I went back to my usual soap, didn't use any deodorant (gulp!) and waited for the eczema to clear - which it did, about 5 days later. Then I tried the deodorant again. Straight away I got the rash back. Have you had anyone else mention this? If so, how did they adjust your recipe? Thoughts? Many thanks, Dee.

    • @tdginter
      @tdginter 7 років тому +2

      Sounds like a reaction to an ingredient used. If it was truly eczema, it wouldn't have disappeared when you stopped using it. Eczema is diet related. Try using fresh lemon or lime. It works great. I've used it prior to a 90 minute workout and it prevented sticky odors. It doesn't prevent sweating, but sweating is good to allow since it's 1 method to help the body detox.

    • @HimeGabi
      @HimeGabi 7 років тому +8

      Dee Hyde that's the baking soda. I've had the same reaction to natural deodorant. it messes with the pH balance in your skin which causes the rash. Some people recommend a dab of apple cider vinegar before applying the natural deodorant to neutralize the soda. Also you could try just making it without the soda.

      Leave out the baking soda! Or just use a very little. I made a diy deodorant that called for hella baking soda so I applied that everyday right and one day my armpit started feeling raw & peeling 😰 lesson learned 😅

      ForgiveAndLove09 Thanks for the tip! Well I'm sorry to say i have given up on trying to makw my own deodorant after burning my armpits with baking soda. Anyway my mom bought me Tom's Natural Deodorant and it works crazy good.

      Selena Lamothe glad Toms is working for you. You can use just straight coconut oil to soothe the irritation from the baking soda. Actually some people just use coconut oil for deodorant. I'm trying that now. So far so good. I might add some tea tree.

      ***** For a lot of people it is irritating. Baking soda is the wrong pH and can disrupt the pH of your skin. It depends the person but in general its recommended not to use baking soda for your skin because of the pH difference.

      I make homemade deodorant and everyone that has used it has had no complaints. Every video that i have watched has used too much baking soda. It only take a small amount. Remember, the minty essential oil (peppermint, spearmint etc,.) mixed with the BK may cause your underarm to burn. In this case, start using a very small amount of each.

    HI, our videos are really great! I love your recipes. I have been making my own products for about a year and for the most part I have been happy with the results ( I am having a very difficult time with the diy homemade toothpaste though , YUKK ! But I want to try one more recipe before I give up) but I feel like they are a little boring. Your recipes have that little extra something that makes them a better product and a little more special. My fave is the mascara so far.
    Oh and I wanted to tell you .... You should never use any kind of metal with Bentonite clay. It will have a nasty reaction .. I was using a metal spoon to scoop out mine from the container and by the time I got to the the bottom it was really nasty.
    Thanks for the awesome videos !!!

    I love that you have brought this great recipe to the world. We have been making a similar recipe for YEARS and it really does work. Just a fyi for those looking to try: there can be a detox period during which you might be more stinky, lasting from 1-2 weeks. Please don't let this deter you, though. It is easily remedied by reapplication. After that it is smoooth sailing. I am and have always been a heavy sweater and this works great. Even better, IMHO, than traditional deos/antiperspirants which always left me smelling revolting by the end of the day.. HIH
