I find that if you take a broken piece of a tub or a piece of plastic the same thickness and place the probe on top of the plastic and then on to the flexwatt, you will get a more accurate temperature. Hope this helps keep the videos coming. Thanks
@0eoghan0 most of the time your temp variance by placing the probe on the flexwatt will equal anywhere from five to ten degrees, so you will usually need to set your thermostat in the mid nineties or higher to get the right temp in the tub. You will need to set your t-stat at the above described temps, then see what kind of temps you are getting in the tub. Once you see the temp you are getting in the tub, you can adjust your t-stat setting up or down to hit the right temp within the tubs.
@0eoghan0 The problem with putting a probe inside a rack tub is that your animal may lean against or lay on the probe, thus getting an improper read on the actual tub temp. It will read the temp of the animal instead of the tub temp. The way he's doing it is the correct way.
We've got a custom snake rack ready for heat tape. I plan on buying 10 feet of 6 watt heat tape. My question is, if we have 4 levels, should we buy a rheostat for temp control or a thermostat? What are the main differences as far as ease of use! Thanks!
awesome video but could you also show how to hook up multiple flexwatt strips to a thermostat? cause i dont know if they all go to one thermostat or if you have to have a thermostat for each strip
I'm going to convert a cabinet into an enclosure, and I'm trying to decide what I want to do about heating. The cabinet is about 40x25x20 with glass front door and the rest is made of some kind of hard wood (I haven't gotten it yet). I would like to use flex watt in order to use the top of the cabinet to hold my 40 gl tank I have for my pueblan. I didn't want to use heat lamps due to space restrictions. The concern I have is whether flex watt can be used to heat this kind of enclosure. I was thinking about adhering it to the bottom of the cabinet on the outside, but I don't even know if it would produce enough heat to adequately heat the inside. Are you familiar with using this heating method with these types of enclosures?
I am going to set up an insect breeding rack (crickets, roaches, superworms, etc) and I need to keep the temps around 80 degrees in most cases. I am using a plastic shelving unit and sterilite tubs. My question: what size of Flexwatt do you think I should use for the tubs? Insects like a uniform temp., so I was thinking of buying the wider Flexwatt and just setting the temp for 80; but if I could get away using the thinner Flexwatt it would be nice to save some cash. Thanks for your time
Im building a rack and I want to install two strips of three inch flexwatt side by side on the back of each shelf. Im not sure how to wire it set up this way. Can I use one cord for both pieces of flexwatt per shelf?
I would like to make my own snake racks with flexwatt, but the cable u used, we cant get over here in englad is there any other way to wire one up using a english plug addapter?
Can you use electrical tape instead of clips? And say you have a tub-rack system that 2 tubs wide and 5 tubs high, how do you recommend plugging or installing the tap? Do I have to buy a dozen cords for all the strips? Or would it be better to make the flex heat strips snake all around? My friend has 9 leopard geckos separated in tubs and made a rack system, but does not have proper heating for them and he's putting them in my care. Up till now I've only has 6 glass tanks and I've used bulbs so I'm feeling a little out of my element. It needs to be as cheap + efficient as possible, and I want to give them the best possible and fast. TT-TT Anyone experienced with this can send me recommendations.
Thanks for the good tips. I've heard that humidity is important when maintaining snakes especially when it comes to them shedding. How can you maintain it at a constant level?
11 Years later and this is still helpful!
Thanks so much for the pro tip vids, Justin; they've been super helpful.
Nice vid Justin. Thanks for sharing.

good video as always justin

Great info, I learned a lot
Excellent and informative video once again. Could you do one on wiring up the thermostat to several heat strands. Thanks.
Just got a herpstat intro+ and it says in the instructions not to use the foil tape to secure the probe tip Justin.
Yes..... a young Justin....man you have age well!
Great stuff. I've always been a little intimidated by flexwatt but I am no more! ha

@Dcebes That's low. I just wired 3" 6watt and once it hit 100 degrees I shut it off.

Is it safe when crimping clips, if it crimps close maybe a little in the black area
You can pre set tape from Reptile Basics
what kind of metal is over your flex watt? how do you regulate the heat?
Are under tank heaters the same thing just with plastic rubber covering all the electrical parts?
i was wondering what kind of thermostats you used and which ones you recommend?
Could you maybe do a pro tip on the herpstat?
hi,justin when ur using the flexwatt,,it matters what side its up? both sides works fine? thanks

where do you get that extention cord at in the video you said something about triplelreptiles???
when u cut the other end of the flex watt does it leave an exposed end that could potentially electrocute someone?
I have a whole roll it has clear coat plastice on both side with lettering can I cut it so I can use clip connectors it says pet foot 120v
do you just cut it with scissors?
How do you heat your entire snake room? I was using a space heater but I stopped because I heard it can cause a fire if it malfunctions.
Flexwatt Vs. Heating pads for a Cage set up, what would be best / cheapest?
Justinnnnn!! Do a video for the daisy chain video!
what size freedom racks do you use for adult pythons

do you have to wire each level of the rack separately?

shouldnt the probe be set in the rack / cage and not on the actual flexwatt because some heat will be lost before it transfers through the plastic

WATER!
Can u link more than one pice together to be run off one plug and one thermostat
@@KINOVAReptiles How hot can the 20 watt 11 inch get, I want to try it in a chick incubator need to maintain 100 degrees.
What is the least expensive yet great working thermostat?
That one over there
I WAnt Ball Pythons My Mom Wouldnt Want To Buy Me One =( SAD
If you're going to do a video of how to do it correctly then you should have used to correct crimping tool not pliers vice grips or a hammer.....
