Great thing about Bowie performing during that period was his facial expressions. Always the actor while performing.

He sure studied and learned his moves. It is somewhat scary how similar this performance is to the official video. Meaning it is a practiced act to every second.

I wonder if in retrospect he wouldn't have done that particular move then. He was still trying to live down that entire pro-fascism flap his Thin White Duke alter ego got him into. And what's even more ironic was that "Lodger," the album this came off of, was the last album in his Berlin trilogy.

I have barely listened to Bowie's music (Let's Dance is pretty dope tho), I just randomly found this, but I absolutely love everything about this clip. He's like some uncle taking over a karaoke bar after some shots of tequila here, but in the most aesthetic way possible. 😃

    • @fefemagalhaesmusic

"He's like some uncle taking over a karaoke bar after some shots of tequila". That's kind of like the spirit he was aiming to convey - of completely misplaced confidence. The way he uses irony in his body language as well as his lyrics and music here is just so brilliant.

All my BELOVED bands from the 80's that could NOT even fucking FATHOM their EXISTENCE as "artists" had it not been because of THE MASTER himself and his MIND-BOGGLING IMPACT/ INFLUENCE on them!!!... I look at Richard Butler and those baggy outfits he was so fond of wearing during the 80's and automatically know the "source" from he got that fashion "idea"!!!... Richard's "movements", "mannerisms", "singing voice" fucking SCREAM out Bowie!!!... And I ADORE Richard Butler & The Psychedelic Furs because of it!!!... I see David Sylvian/ Peter Murphy/ Daniel Ash /Gary Numan and PLENTY of others who modeled themselves after such a MUSIC GENIUS!!!... They were all planets orbiting the BOWIEVERSE!!!...

Hey I don't like ciggy smoke either man. It's worse when you're an ex-smoker or pregnant. BUT... when people can't light up a cigarette walking down the sidewalk, that's taking things too far imo. It's part of the toxic grievance culture. Someone/anyone complains and something gets ruined for everyone. There should be places where people can smoke. Bars or restaurants should be able to decide if they will allow smoking or not. If an individual doesn't like it, then they can choose to NOT GO THERE and go to a smoke free zone. But they've gone nuts banning.

I remember watching this when it originally aired. I used to have a pair of these fabulous trousers. Anyone know where I could get a pair now? Loved the white pair he wore in Dallas in 1978 and Earl's Court the same (?) year as well. I bought my pair from Carnaby street via a mail order ad in the back of either the NME or Melody Maker. 20 pleats if I remember correctly! I ruled!

David Bowie authored “Boys Keep Swinging” (1979) with his guitarist in mind. He told Adraian Belew : “This is written after you, in the spirit of you.”
The video shows him performing the tune while walking a runway in drag, even smearing his lipstick across his mouth.
In 2000, Bowie spoke about the song and the clip : “I do not feel that there is anything remotely glorious about being either male or female. I was merely playing on the idea of the COLONIZATION OF GENDER.” 💙💄💚
Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed will you remain, David Robert Jones, a.k.a. David Bowie (1947 - 2016)… 🌹

DB's look was a massive influence on both male and female nightclubbers, especially
in London from 1979 - 81. Remember seeing this clip on The Kenny Everett Show at the time.
Anybody who went to the Blitz Club in Covent Garden or Studio 21, just off Tottenham Court Road will know what I'm talking about. You had to look the part if you wanted to
get in, but the people looked great and so was the music. At the top of the tree was
Bowie though. He was closely followed by Ig's "Nightclubbing",early Ultravox (John Foxx period), Human League, Japan, Magazine etc.
    Those were the days.....

Funny to compare his teeth here to earlier videos where they were a typical British mess. He's at his most conventionally handsome here. But to me he was always the most attractive in his earlier androgynous incarnation, bad teeth and all.
