Gabriel Fauré is one of the most underated composers of Impressionism. before I came to this music, I had to listen to the other earlier epochs. Classical music is very complex, so I don't understand it immediately when I hear it for the first time. i have found for myself so many other composers that i like to hear, Mozart and J. S. Bach were never my favorit, even though they are the most listened to. You really should listen to the music that you can connect to. The most heard doesn't have to be the best at the same time. Music is a matter of taste. That's why I rather deal with the compositions than compare the quality of the composers with each other.
The Chanson and Madrigal are beautifully sung by Nicolai Gedda. If Faure had been an artist, he would have been the finest of watercolourists..... Wonderful upload!
I imagine view and atmosphere of Venice. I feel from this music breathing and life characters of “The merchant of Venice” Shakespeare gave Faure inspiration and imagination!
Judging from this delightful music, it seems impossible that it was written for a production of "The Merchant of Venice". Surely there must be a French fairy tale romance called "Shylock"!
A wonderful recording of a lovely work by Faure. A true giant of French music in my opinion.

A work by Fauré that I didn't know. I've listened to this sporadically over the months and it's grown on me. It's up there with the best of Fauré.

thank you, so much!
Le nocturne (11:11) est superbe et annonce le style de fin de vie du compositeur.
Great to see a portrait of a young Gabriel...they are usually of a grey haired Fauré
