- This mustang runs great when cold but when it heats up its a different story. After several tests I find the issue and correct it. Now it went from running like crap to smooth driving, well sort of.

Thank you for this video. I have the same engine in my 99 V6. I liked the time-lap of the intake removal and the shots of the fuel rail and injector set up. And that power steering pump whines when new and is still whining 24 years later. I think Ford considers it a “feature”.
Damn thanks to you I knew where to blow my cigarette smoke I had a leaking EGR valve
I haven’t watched the video yet but I already know it’s the fuel pump.
Had the identical problem with a 2003 3.8l mustang, with 225k.
We initially assumed a stuck EGR... but that was not the case.
During testing, We found the fuel pressure dropped to 11lbs (should be 34 or higher), when operating temperature was reached, at idle.
We dropped the fuel tank, cleaned it out, replaced the original pump assembly, and the filter, to solve the problem.
...
So.... why would it run decent at idle when cold? Because engine management allows for a richer mixture with a cold engine.
Remember, SN 95 new edge vehicles don't have fuel return to the tank, they have a fuel controller (Driver Module) in the circuit, that is located in the trunk. Once it was determined this module was functioning properly, we moved to pressure at the rail, and found the problem.
Is the EGR diaphragm even supposed to be leaking I bought a new EGR and it still has smoke coming out
I've done that gasket before. Now you go me wanting to check them rings.
I have the same issue but when it goes hot it when it starts running bad when it idles but when I actually run it, it runs ok. The problem is when it idles
What was it
Great stuff! I had a 1989 5.0. Chick magnet lol. That thing almost killed me on several occasions. No 18 year old should have that power with terrible handling. Can I ask a question. I'm broke. My only car, a Pontiac Vibe 2013 has no brakes but it's in parking garage now for 2 summers and 2 winters. Other than the original problems, my Q is: What new problems, issues should I consider / ask the mech. about JUST about the fact of being stationary and through 2 years of semi-open garage? Thanks for your time, if you have it. peace.
The usual stuff. Rotten tires, dead battery, leaks from dry seals, rodents, etc.
@@gautorepair thanks. I truly appreciate that. If I find a dude sleeping in my trunk I'll let ya know. be well.
I had that same exact problem before with one of my mustangs and it would do that same exact thing when i would be driving it on a hot day or when it was idling on a hot day and I thought it was my fuel pump to and even had all the same symptoms and even after changing the fuel pump I still had the same problem after a year of trying to figure out the problem and trying everything I noticed that my cooling fan wasn't coming on but the car never overheated and temperature gauge never ran hot always normal so I hard wired the ran and never had that problem again if the fans don't come on and engine is hot the fuel will heat up and turn into a vapor instead of a liquid it's called vapor locked just something to look into if ur still having problems
What was it
Fuel injected vehicles don't vapor lock, that would only apply to older carburetor vehicles, that have a mechanical fuel pump located on the engine. Electric fuel pumps solved that problem. Its more likely your ECU was responding to the cyl head temp sensor (since you have two temp sensors on SN 95 vehicles)
I got the same 3.8 v6 new edge but my problem is the car run hood but when I tunr the corner and accelerate the rpm fly up and speed jerk but when I drive slow it go through all gears
Do you have automatic transmission
Update PLEASE
Good Job!
My mustang been having the same problems when it’s cold it runs well but when it starts to warm up it starts running bad loss of power backfires when accelerating I’ve been trying almost everything I changed a lot of things but they weren’t the problem they helped a little bit
It’s a 00’ 3.8
did you ever get it fix?
@@LuisGomez-uz8km yeah I’m fixing it now it was my head gaskets leaking coolant into one of my cylinders
What was it I need to kno cause it terrible
@ G, i know this as a while ago but do you remember if you every found out why the charging light was lit even though the alternator was charging fine? i just bought an 01 which ironically has turned out to have, among it's many problems, the same fueling issues which thanks to your video i just ordered a pump, filter and regulator to change everything rather than wasting time trying to figure out which one it is, this piles got to many other problems to work through...god i hate fords....lol
I dont think i ever looked into that. The customer was completely concerned about the drivability issue
so changing the fuel pump resolve the issue??
Testing indicated the fuel pressure was below spec, indicating a functioning (although poorly), pump assembly which resulted in fuel starvation (lean mixture), especially when the engine reached operating temperature.
How you like that little midget lift? I’m thinking of doing your setup I have a slab of concrete out back my house in ohio
The lift works great. However for the price i think you can get a full sized lift if have the roof height
Where's the covers on the fenders respecting the guys paint job looks like he takes care of his car I would have a fit if you didn't cover my fenders and worked on my car
no scratchings no hasslings
Thinking same thing 😂
I noticed no codes for injectors my car is doing the same problems misfire stalls when driven like ten minutes
mines doing the same thing
Same this is rediculous my car has 80k miles been thru everything besides o2 and ecm two codes are bank 1 bank 2 rich runs great cold like shit when it warms up
