I almost gave up on the 3.8-4.2 pushrod v6. Seeing your videos has given me a new approach for making this v6 more potent and efficient. I'm hooked and will began a project to put this engine into a 1955 old pickup. 👍
Brilliant! I'd love to see one on your opinions of the advantages, and disadvantages of the different intakes and swaps. I have a '01 3.8L that I've removed the EGR system, and bypass the pcv system with the help of super six motorsports, because of the BBK valve covers not having the baffle update, BBK shorty headers, with a Dynomax duel exhaust system, BBK throttle body, BBK cold air intake system, BBK oil catch can that I added for the pcv delete from a 2015 mustang, BBK firewall clutch cable adjuster, MSD coil pack, and currently hunting down the last part to switch my Nitrous Oxide Systems dry shot for a wet shot. (Basically hunting down the fuel solenoid). And I've tuned all this with a 93 octane Bama tune on my SCT-X4. I actually liked the response of the Airade throttle body spacer over the BBK throttle body, but it didn't fit the theme, or look as nice next to the BBK caster camber plates. Lol. Anyway I came across a '92 or '93 super coupe supercharged 3.8L for $50 for the whole motor, supercharger, and everything minus some of the fuel, and ignition parts, and almost did the swap before realizing what I had was better, and I'd basically be taking 2 steps back just to say it's supercharged and sold it. I've been considering doing a swap with the 3.9L and boaring it out to a 4.3L, or just dropping a 4.2L in it. Not sure if I'd have to get the computer from the 4.2L. I liked the idea or the Windstar upper intake plenum, and now curious of some of the swaps you were talking about, but before I make a huge decision I'd greatly appreciate your insight.
Drop in the 3.9 as it is and either get a 99-00 lower intake or remove the IMRC. A 3.9 has same potential as a 4.2 if you add either aftermarket, or 05-08 4.2 freestar/f150 camshaft. For further tech support please join FB group: New edge mustang V6 Tech Support. Thanks!
I would love to do this, however my 3.8 is going to be my daily and I live in a strict emissions state. Would you recommend to port my original intake, when I removed mine I noticed that the ports were about 3/8th of an inch smaller than the gaskets
Aye man!! I just watch your videos for the first time and I'm glad I did!!! You provide a lot of information for this engine that I didn't know!! I do have a question. I have a 2000 mustang that came with the 3.8 in a manual and that engine blew. So I got an 04 3.9 engine for it. The old engine didn't have the IMRC and this one does. Would I have to get the ECU to run the intake? I have the harness from the 3.9 already. Or should I just run an intake without the IMRC?
Drop in the 3.9 and either get a 99-00 lower intake or unplug/ remove the 01+ imrc by removing the lower intake and surgically removing the plates in the intake runners. You will then be able to pull the imrc spine out and fill the holes. A 3.9 has same potential as a 4.2 if you add either aftermarket, or 05-08 4.2 freestar/f150 camshaft and intake manifold. gotta get you, Mustang Man, NotAv8, Puny pony, buddyantunez1, Sébastien Forgetz, SlowSix, SaleenJ , datonev6mustang and mustangmelish together and set up a podcast id pay good money to see that haha! btw for anyone that doesn't know, those are the channels to check out for the meanest v6 sn95s of youtube.
Is there any performance gain swapping to the freestar upper and lower intake on a full bolt on v6? My son and I have added longtubes, catted x, magnaflow catback, 4.10s a CAI and SCT tune. We have a NX 75 shot ready to be installed as well. Also does the freestar have IMRC’s? Really loving your videos.
Yes but the heads are limited to flow by cam and heads. The best of the junkyard freestar intake comes out with a aftermarket or 05-08 freestar camshaft and porting the exhaust side of the heads as the freestar uses a much more responsive camshaft. Freestar works best in NA and NO2 applications, only about 10-15 psi of boost
Had to tear down my crate 3.8 due to my old lower intake warping from the old motor. (just found out this issue so I’m Swapping in a new lower intake) the 99-00 has no IMRC. if I was to replace my 01+ lower with the 99-00 one would I need to have a tune after since the 01+ engine knows it’s not there? What would the engine run like if I replaced the lower and didn’t tune it? Jw
You can drive on it but it will have decreased low rpm accelleration until tuned out. You will get a CEL for the IMRC actuator not being plugged in. Can remotlety plug in a imrc actuator in there just plug in the electrical and not mount it in for the CEL to go away. In my opinion it is best to keep the IMRC until boosted 10+psi where it becomes problem for the actuator to close and open under boosted condition. The IMRC does give a good bit of low end torque to NA vehicles.
@@MustangV6TechSupport thanks paradox! Appreciate the help yet again haha. Will be putting things together sometime next week when the parts come in idk what I’d do without your insight sometimes 😂
Yes. If you just swap upper intake manifold with a tune there is only 10hp and 20tq gain. Add 4.2 camshaft direct no other parts needed to drop power band from 5500 to 3300rpm. Use freestar upper, lower intakes and 4.2 cam is 20hp, +45tq with no tune needed if you use everything because it's designed to work together.

Get a vehicle with any coyote engine and you wont need any of that. Will have a much faster car too.

Dude thank you
I don't see why the intakes wouldn't fit if I just cut a hole under the massive GT hood scoop some of us have.
That totally works its just more of a body job than motor modding for fitment
Okay, my 🧠 is STUFFED!!! Awesome. Till... tomorrow! Mwuahahahahahahahhhhh!!!!
Having trouble making sure I use the right bolts in the right spots on lower intake?
So my motor blew up can I just not pull a 4.2 motor and put it in my 2003 v6 new edge mustang
@TheGamers64 watch earlier video on 4.2 oil setup swap and you easily can. Just oil setup swap minimum required

Can you use the Freestar lower intake with the windstar upper manifold?
Nope. They use diffrent lower intakes. Windstar uses mustang lower, freestar uses only freestar
Can I mount the upper intake of windstar with the lower manifold of mustang 3.8L 2001?
Yes
@@MustangV6TechSupport thx bro!!! Your videos encouraged me to make these upgrades! I tell you how it goes! greetings from Chile!
Does the 3.9 v6 come with an oil cooler?
Nope.
What happens to the IMRC? Will it cause a check engine code if left unplugged?
Yes. A tune is required to turn the IMRC and the light off.
Do you remember the part number for the f150 burp tube
626-211 4.2 engine heater hose assembly should be found for around 25$ ebay
Another intake manifols only brings some 10HP extra.

Take that damn balance shaft out and throw it away. It’s an engine lifespan shortener.
Slow down plz
