C501/CLF2/CLF4 best combo I've seen. C's and CLF's are the two best looking loco's in the country . . .

As an American, it's interesting to see an old fashioned bulldog cab on an F40PH-esque cowl body and prime mover. A mix of the old and (relatively) new!

Superb coverage as always Matt. We hadn't heard from you for a while and I was concerned we were going to lose the some of the very best rail coverage in Australia and certainly South Australia and the Adelaide Hills. What a fiasco though. I'm sure ARTC have powers to intervane in major disruptions such as this. To allow the major east-west rail route in the country to be out of service is quite frankly staggering!!!

What an extraordinary situation where a stalled train blocks a mainline for 13 hours, and SCT has to send in rescue locos from interstate to clear the situation. Why couldn't they arrange for rescue locos from another operator - such as the locos from 5MA5 running behind to push the stalled SCT train, or spot hiring rescue locos from Adelaide to come up to attach to the front?

One has to wonder whether SCT is cutting corners to help pay for his son's expensive Supercar drive.

awesome video! C501/CLF2/CLF4 sound relay good in full throttle. but any old EMD or Alco sound good in full throttle.. it will be interesting to see SCT hauling steel on there trains.

Excellent footage, C501 looks very grand. SCT seem to have a lot of locomotive "reliability" issues in the past 12 months or so, common on the western line as well. Be interesting to know what the cost was to SCT for a "quick hire" of the three rescue locomotives? SCT is looking to build their own loco maintenance centre for "in house maintenance" hopefully to drastically improve main line running reliability. The South Australian version of Hawkesbury River bank to Cowan, always gets a victim. That is very scenic and beautiful countryside you filmed in, informative captions too, thank you.

Seeing this I am amazed that SCT were able to get that steel haulage contract away from, PN.. Be interesting to see how long they keep it before the customer gets annoyed with SCT..

Superb video. I am fascinated by the concept of consists failing on well understood grades and routes. How does it occur- is it engineer error or an incorrect calculation of the weights of the full set? Does it happen regularly on certain sections of track and if so, why would it take such a long time to dispatching more power to get the train moving - particularly considering how disruptive blocking a single rail would be?

Great coverage as usual Matt, did you find out the cause of the original failure, a faulty loco or was the train maybe overloaded. The CSR's don't seem to have a good reputation.

Not sure how different it is at 1:1 scale, but I often wonder why Australian trains don't make more use of distributed power? My trains seem to handle grades better when there is a bit of push and pull together, and Canadian trains seem to use front, mid and rear locos for getting through the Rockies. I think it's pretty common in the big iron ore trains of the pilbara too. I had the same thought when watching the 100-wagon CEY trial (can't recall if that was you or someone else) - why isn't this already how it happens? Four locos should surely have been enough power?

    • @vsvnrg3263
      @vsvnrg3263 3 роки тому +3

superwags1, distributed power locos have to be wired up to do the job. or pay for a crew to sit in them. there are probably no spare locos anywhere in the country to help with current needs. heritage centres have been emptied. when the grain harvest is sent on its way sct and others might find enough horsepower. and all the t class locos that sct was using can go back to sleep again.

@@Davo22 , north american locos are too heavy and too high. i think its about 13" too high, width is okay, weight is too much. their newer locos are near 200 tonnes. the newer aussie ones are less than 140 tonnes. the clunkers are around110 tonnes.

Why didn't AN uncouple and assist SCT? It could have saved hours and much cost. There is likely to be bad blood between AN and SCT with the way SCT mess up. Do SCT pay their bills on time?

@@MS_Trains Yes PN of course. I have seen some SCT trains go through Cootamundra and couldn't believe how scrappy and unkempt they are. The PN fleet was sometimes dirty but pristine in comparison. SCT inspires no confidence at all.

nong mar, sct are allowed an extra 100m on their trains than pn because their terminals can take them. the 1800m limit is probably due to the lengths of passing loops. the longer the trains the higher the productivity.

    Great video Matt,
    Just subscribe to your channel.
What do you expect. SCT running cheap arse Chinese build & powered loco's. F4om what I have been told those Chinese loco's ain't worth it compared to the GE loco's of PN.
Then it takes 3 x EMD legends especially my favorite Big Nasty George to rescue the party.
Regarding the steel contract, I worked at Qube for several years & whatever Qube touch they stuff it up big time.
They only win contacts by going in low make no money & hope for the best.
SCT & Qube what a clown outfit.
Mark my work, PN will sut back watch the clowns f--- it up from day 1, BHP once the contract it up for review in a few years time will go back to PN begging to take them away from the clowns if not earlier.
What rolling stock is Qube going to use in Victoria to run down to Hastings on BG.
All those clapped out G Class, B Class etc what a joke.
BHP will go through the motions but before you know it PN will get it back on there terms & with a higher price tag.
Because we know PN will not loan a single piece of equipment to anyone.
    Cheers
    Louis

Cannot believe what a 'Mickey Mouse' rail industry exists in this country! Locomotives scrounged out of museums - REALLY?!!!! Truck drivers can feel secure in their jobs and better crank up the build of more multi lane interstate highways.

How the f@#$ does are freight train with 4 locomotives fail on are 1 in 45 grade??? Yeah ok I get it would probably have around 100 to 150 cars in tow, weighing maybe 10.000 to 20.000 tonnes (rough guess) but come on, that’s got to be at least 15.000 horsepower, surely that’s human error.
That f@#$ing smoke show & wheel spin on the front locomotives, WOW.
Their heavy hitting those dynamic on the way downhill too, or they just need new brakes.
SCT taking the steel contract from PN, well we can all figure out where this is going, SCT are either going to go bust or lose most of their contracts back to PN, I give it 3 to 5 years.
